love what you bring to my life uh and I love what you bring to my life uh and I love being on the adventure together love being on the adventure together love being on the adventure together it's mutual you know I hadn't planned to it's mutual you know I hadn't planned to it's mutual you know I hadn't planned to go there but since we're there anyway I go there but since we're there anyway I go there but since we're there anyway I mean I'm I'm pouring over data thinking mean I'm I'm pouring over data thinking mean I'm I'm pouring over data thinking about some projects I'm working on and about some projects I'm working on and about some projects I'm working on and you know this Bob the you know this Bob the you know this Bob the loneliness crisis is now an epidemic and loneliness crisis is now an epidemic and loneliness crisis is now an epidemic and there's a lot of people who have you there's a lot of people who have you there's a lot of people who have you know hundreds dozens thousands of people know hundreds dozens thousands of people know hundreds dozens thousands of people who follow them on social or a friend of who follow them on social or a friend of who follow them on social or a friend of them on social but in real life it's them on social but in real life it's them on social but in real life it's pretty empty what would you say like pretty empty what would you say like pretty empty what would you say like what is your take um because you are what is your take um because you are what is your take um because you are such a good friend to so many people on such a good friend to so many people on such a good friend to so many people on what happens when you're in that what happens when you're in that what happens when you're in that situation where you might feel lonely as situation where you might feel lonely as situation where you might feel lonely as a leader or you might say yeah I really a leader or you might say yeah I really a leader or you might say yeah I really don't have too many close friends yeah don't have too many close friends yeah don't have too many close friends yeah you know that feeling of being kind of you know that feeling of being kind of you know that feeling of being kind of together alone in other words you can be together alone in other words you can be together alone in other words you can be within a a large space with a lot of within a a large space with a lot of within a a large space with a lot of people think of some of The Arena events people think of some of The Arena events people think of some of The Arena events where we've had the opportunity to be where we've had the opportunity to be where we've had the opportunity to be saying something up front uh that we saying something up front uh that we saying something up front uh that we also you can feel utterly alone uh and also you can feel utterly alone uh and also you can feel utterly alone uh and so the antidote for me is I usually so the antidote for me is I usually so the antidote for me is I usually throw five pounds of saltwater taffy in throw five pounds of saltwater taffy in throw five pounds of saltwater taffy in my backpack I just go to the door and my backpack I just go to the door and my backpack I just go to the door and start handing out Taffy it's not just start handing out Taffy it's not just start handing out Taffy it's not just just be a nice guy I just I need to just be a nice guy I just I need to just be a nice guy I just I need to connect with somebody I need to like connect with somebody I need to like connect with somebody I need to like know because I don't want to be a know because I don't want to be a know because I don't want to be a showman I don't want this isn't a show I showman I don't want this isn't a show I showman I don't want this isn't a show I want we're together and I want to feel want we're together and I want to feel want we're together and I want to feel like I recognize somebody in the front like I recognize somebody in the front like I recognize somebody in the front row or that we're actually speaking to a row or that we're actually speaking to a row or that we're actually speaking to a person if there's something we have to

gratuitously and I knew who you were and gratuitously and I knew who you were and I was like oh my gosh like Bob Goff I was like oh my gosh like Bob Goff I was like oh my gosh like Bob Goff reached out to me taking the initiative reached out to me taking the initiative reached out to me taking the initiative is a really big part of it and you you is a really big part of it and you you is a really big part of it and you you do that so well when you take the do that so well when you take the do that so well when you take the initiative in a relationship when you initiative in a relationship when you initiative in a relationship when you hand Taffy to somebody you know people hand Taffy to somebody you know people hand Taffy to somebody you know people look at that and they go oh well that look at that and they go oh well that look at that and they go oh well that only Bob could do that like that is such only Bob could do that like that is such only Bob could do that like that is such a bob goof thing which it is but I've a bob goof thing which it is but I've a bob goof thing which it is but I've also found that um also found that um also found that um you know for example making friends you know for example making friends you know for example making friends there are certain social contexts where there are certain social contexts where there are certain social contexts where I'm naturally shy and then others where I'm naturally shy and then others where I'm naturally shy and then others where I'm not I don't know whether this is I'm not I don't know whether this is I'm not I don't know whether this is like a Canadian boating thing but we're like a Canadian boating thing but we're like a Canadian boating thing but we're both boter right we are so I find it so both boter right we are so I find it so both boter right we are so I find it so easy to talk to people at marinas if easy to talk to people at marinas if easy to talk to people at marinas if you're like gassing up your boat or you're like gassing up your boat or you're like gassing up your boat or you're docking or you're at a boat you're docking or you're at a boat you're docking or you're at a boat launch or something like that it's just launch or something like that it's just launch or something like that it's just very natural to talk to strangers and very natural to talk to strangers and very natural to talk to strangers and everybody seems to to Value it um and everybody seems to to Value it um and everybody seems to to Value it um and I'm wondering if we had more of that in I'm wondering if we had more of that in I'm wondering if we had more of that in our everyday life where you just start our everyday life where you just start our everyday life where you just start talking to someone at a supermarket not talking to someone at a supermarket not talking to someone at a supermarket not in a weird way but just like a a nice in a weird way but just like a a nice in a weird way but just like a a nice conversational way you often take the conversational way you often take the conversational way you often take the initiative any tips on that yeah maybe initiative any tips on that yeah maybe initiative any tips on that yeah maybe uh for uh our friends are listening or uh for uh our friends are listening or uh for uh our friends are listening or trying to figure out these things the trying to figure out these things the trying to figure out these things the small switch that I made that's been small switch that I made that's been small switch that I made that's been really helpful instead of saying you really helpful instead of saying you really helpful instead of saying you know Hi how are you and then they say know Hi how are you and then they say know Hi how are you and then they say fine and then they say how are you and I fine and then they say how are you and I fine and then they say how are you and I say fine that's just how we roll in say fine that's just how we roll in say fine that's just how we roll in North America North America North America um instead to just say hey what does it um instead to just say hey what does it um instead to just say hey what does it feel like to be you right now and while feel like to be you right now and while feel like to be you right now and while you're thinking about that let me tell you're thinking about that let me tell you're thinking about that let me tell you what it feels like to be me which is you what it feels like to be me which is you what it feels like to be me which is usually about 80% insecurity and 100%

usually about 80% insecurity and 100% usually about 80% insecurity and 100% anticipation so that you usually 100% of anticipation so that you usually 100% of anticipation so that you usually 100% of the time I'm 80% insecure even now the time I'm 80% insecure even now the time I'm 80% insecure even now there's a component of insecurity um but there's a component of insecurity um but there's a component of insecurity um but what I do is I've masked it I'm not what I do is I've masked it I'm not what I do is I've masked it I'm not being inauthentic but I've learned how being inauthentic but I've learned how being inauthentic but I've learned how to cope with that uh inse security by a to cope with that uh inse security by a to cope with that uh inse security by a living in anticipation living with hope living in anticipation living with hope living in anticipation living with hope being in the moment being available that being in the moment being available that being in the moment being available that seems like a louder voice in the room seems like a louder voice in the room seems like a louder voice in the room than all of the insecurity speaking to than all of the insecurity speaking to than all of the insecurity speaking to me over my shoulder and it kind of mutes me over my shoulder and it kind of mutes me over my shoulder and it kind of mutes it I have a thing that maybe uh you've it I have a thing that maybe uh you've it I have a thing that maybe uh you've heard of I don't know if you share this heard of I don't know if you share this heard of I don't know if you share this but my ears are always ringing um so but my ears are always ringing um so but my ears are always ringing um so it's got ttis I think something what it's got ttis I think something what it's got ttis I think something what it's called but anyway my and it's been it's called but anyway my and it's been it's called but anyway my and it's been that way for a long time since I started that way for a long time since I started that way for a long time since I started blasting roads up at our lodge I think I blasting roads up at our lodge I think I blasting roads up at our lodge I think I didn't have the right ear protection so didn't have the right ear protection so didn't have the right ear protection so um they're always ringing except right um they're always ringing except right um they're always ringing except right now like it's not ringing right now now like it's not ringing right now now like it's not ringing right now because I'm just talking to you isn't because I'm just talking to you isn't because I'm just talking to you isn't that interesting so when you talk that interesting so when you talk that interesting so when you talk oneon-one to a person it stops there's oneon-one to a person it stops there's oneon-one to a person it stops there's no ringing it's gone but then if I'm no ringing it's gone but then if I'm no ringing it's gone but then if I'm just alone then I hear it and it's not just alone then I hear it and it's not just alone then I hear it and it's not irritating to me it's a nuisance because irritating to me it's a nuisance because irritating to me it's a nuisance because it's you want to be like Rocky like it's you want to be like Rocky like it's you want to be like Rocky like answer the phone um but but uh I find answer the phone um but but uh I find answer the phone um but but uh I find that that that goes away and the that that that goes away and the that that that goes away and the antidote to some insecurity the antidote antidote to some insecurity the antidote antidote to some insecurity the antidote to maybe if you're a leader listening to maybe if you're a leader listening to maybe if you're a leader listening and you're always hearing this ringing and you're always hearing this ringing and you're always hearing this ringing of insecurity in your ears is to be uh of insecurity in your ears is to be uh of insecurity in your ears is to be uh do what uh Paul talked about Timothy do what uh Paul talked about Timothy do what uh Paul talked about Timothy doing show a genuine interest in other

doing show a genuine interest in other doing show a genuine interest in other people uh Philippians 2:20 just just people uh Philippians 2:20 just just people uh Philippians 2:20 just just like show an interest get immersed in like show an interest get immersed in like show an interest get immersed in that and you won't hear all the other that and you won't hear all the other that and you won't hear all the other loud noises in your life uh that's been loud noises in your life uh that's been loud noises in your life uh that's been helpful it doesn't fix it all the time helpful it doesn't fix it all the time helpful it doesn't fix it all the time but it g helps me get context constantly but it g helps me get context constantly but it g helps me get context constantly and I think that has been just asking and I think that has been just asking and I think that has been just asking what people feel what's it feel like to what people feel what's it feel like to what people feel what's it feel like to be you and and and start by setting some be you and and and start by setting some be you and and and start by setting some of the the guard rails to say oh we're of the the guard rails to say oh we're of the the guard rails to say oh we're actually gonna have a real live actually gonna have a real live actually gonna have a real live conversation we're GNA talk about things conversation we're GNA talk about things conversation we're GNA talk about things that that that matter you talked about flipping a matter you talked about flipping a matter you talked about flipping a switch when it came to insecurity I switch when it came to insecurity I switch when it came to insecurity I think every leader can identify with the think every leader can identify with the think every leader can identify with the fact that there's a level of insecurity fact that there's a level of insecurity fact that there's a level of insecurity inside of us I certainly can inside of us I certainly can inside of us I certainly can but you talked about a a a switch that but you talked about a a a switch that but you talked about a a a switch that flipped were there critical moments in flipped were there critical moments in flipped were there critical moments in your life where you decided that no you your life where you decided that no you your life where you decided that no you were just GNA move forward and ignore were just GNA move forward and ignore were just GNA move forward and ignore that insecurity and start being more that insecurity and start being more that insecurity and start being more outgoing or maybe it's uh just be who outgoing or maybe it's uh just be who outgoing or maybe it's uh just be who you really are I know in our culture we you really are I know in our culture we you really are I know in our culture we put a high value on you know arm waving put a high value on you know arm waving put a high value on you know arm waving and confetti and unicorns and that's and confetti and unicorns and that's and confetti and unicorns and that's these are my people this is where I kind these are my people this is where I kind these are my people this is where I kind of Live And yet that's not Fain I just of Live And yet that's not Fain I just of Live And yet that's not Fain I just think I'm a pretty upbeat guy you could think I'm a pretty upbeat guy you could think I'm a pretty upbeat guy you could put me in a dark room with a you know put me in a dark room with a you know put me in a dark room with a you know cardboard box and I think it's something cardboard box and I think it's something cardboard box and I think it's something fun to do with it so um what I think I'm fun to do with it so um what I think I'm fun to do with it so um what I think I'm trying to do is find uh deeper levels of trying to do is find uh deeper levels of trying to do is find uh deeper levels of meaning in what was happening around me
