why don't you take a few minutes to just why don't you take a few minutes to just sort of uh tell the very interesting sort of uh tell the very interesting sort of uh tell the very interesting story about sort of how you ended up in story about sort of how you ended up in story about sort of how you ended up in ministry and what you've been doing ministry and what you've been doing ministry and what you've been doing lately how you ended up where you are lately how you ended up where you are lately how you ended up where you are today today today yep so i grew up playing football i'm yep so i grew up playing football i'm yep so i grew up playing football i'm from a very football driven community um from a very football driven community um from a very football driven community um like die hard like die hard like die hard the town shuts down for all the high the town shuts down for all the high the town shuts down for all the high school games and the college games kind school games and the college games kind school games and the college games kind of community so that was ingrained in my of community so that was ingrained in my of community so that was ingrained in my being and my goal in life was to make it being and my goal in life was to make it being and my goal in life was to make it and play in college get a scholarship to and play in college get a scholarship to and play in college get a scholarship to play in college play in college play in college and so i spent most of my and so i spent most of my and so i spent most of my adolescence in high school dreaming adolescence in high school dreaming adolescence in high school dreaming about that focusing on that working about that focusing on that working about that focusing on that working towards that and finally um out of high towards that and finally um out of high towards that and finally um out of high school i ended up having like 13 school i ended up having like 13 school i ended up having like 13 scholarship offers scholarship offers scholarship offers got to go play ball got to go play ball got to go play ball it was the dream scenario my best friend it was the dream scenario my best friend it was the dream scenario my best friend since i was 5 and i got to play together since i was 5 and i got to play together since i was 5 and i got to play together at the same school we roomed together at the same school we roomed together at the same school we roomed together and then the first game i broke my neck and then the first game i broke my neck and then the first game i broke my neck and and and it was devastating it was devastating it was devastating so i still had this dream in my mind so i still had this dream in my mind so i still had this dream in my mind after the it healed and all that stuff i after the it healed and all that stuff i after the it healed and all that stuff i transferred to a much smaller school transferred to a much smaller school transferred to a much smaller school called kentucky christian called kentucky christian called kentucky christian and i didn't really have any interest in and i didn't really have any interest in and i didn't really have any interest in going into ministry or any of that stuff going into ministry or any of that stuff going into ministry or any of that stuff but the but the but the uh the coach that was there had just uh the coach that was there had just uh the coach that was there had just come out of the nfl and i i feel like come out of the nfl and i i feel like come out of the nfl and i i feel like god placed him in my life to lead me god placed him in my life to lead me god placed him in my life to lead me into ministry into ministry into ministry because right before our first game we because right before our first game we because right before our first game we were having our final scrimmage and i were having our final scrimmage and i were having our final scrimmage and i broke my arm the next season broke my arm the next season broke my arm the next season and so this this dream of playing ball and so this this dream of playing ball and so this this dream of playing ball was kind of was kind of was kind of sidelined pretty quickly and my coach sidelined pretty quickly and my coach sidelined pretty quickly and my coach took me aside and he had kind of took me aside and he had kind of took me aside and he had kind of really spoken into my life and so i

really spoken into my life and so i really spoken into my life and so i think god has a different plan for you think god has a different plan for you think god has a different plan for you i've always been pretty musically i've always been pretty musically i've always been pretty musically inclined and so shortly after i broke my inclined and so shortly after i broke my inclined and so shortly after i broke my arm i had a church in a place called arm i had a church in a place called arm i had a church in a place called corydon indiana which is a place i'd corydon indiana which is a place i'd corydon indiana which is a place i'd never heard of never heard of never heard of randomly call me and say that through a randomly call me and say that through a randomly call me and say that through a couple of mutual friends they had heard couple of mutual friends they had heard couple of mutual friends they had heard me lead worship me lead worship me lead worship on a fourth of july event and they on a fourth of july event and they on a fourth of july event and they wanted to know if i'd be interested in wanted to know if i'd be interested in wanted to know if i'd be interested in coming to be their worship pastor and i coming to be their worship pastor and i coming to be their worship pastor and i was 19 at the time was 19 at the time was 19 at the time so i left school so i left school so i left school left school and came to first capital um left school and came to first capital um left school and came to first capital um when i was 19 and i was there for about when i was 19 and i was there for about when i was 19 and i was there for about three years three years three years and um mega church world uh was really and um mega church world uh was really and um mega church world uh was really appealing to about a 22 year old worship appealing to about a 22 year old worship appealing to about a 22 year old worship guy so i got to go lead worship at a guy so i got to go lead worship at a guy so i got to go lead worship at a really large church called northview really large church called northview really large church called northview church in india uh indianapolis church in india uh indianapolis church in india uh indianapolis and i was there for about 10 months and and i was there for about 10 months and and i was there for about 10 months and realized realized realized that that that i had a lot of a lot of pride when it i had a lot of a lot of pride when it i had a lot of a lot of pride when it comes to leading worship and i loved the comes to leading worship and i loved the comes to leading worship and i loved the spotlight in the stage and i felt like spotlight in the stage and i felt like spotlight in the stage and i felt like god was telling me you need to go do god was telling me you need to go do god was telling me you need to go do something else this is not healthy for something else this is not healthy for something else this is not healthy for you i've got something bigger for you so you i've got something bigger for you so you i've got something bigger for you so i called first capital back and i i called first capital back and i i called first capital back and i basically told them those things and i basically told them those things and i basically told them those things and i told them i don't know what it is yet told them i don't know what it is yet told them i don't know what it is yet but is there any chance i could come but is there any chance i could come but is there any chance i could come back i will clean the floors like that back i will clean the floors like that back i will clean the floors like that that was kind of the conversation and that was kind of the conversation and that was kind of the conversation and graciously they welcomed me back in a graciously they welcomed me back in a graciously they welcomed me back in a um online pastor role which was way um online pastor role which was way um online pastor role which was way before online pastors were cool so 2015 before online pastors were cool so 2015 before online pastors were cool so 2015 i got to start doing online ministry i got to start doing online ministry i got to start doing online ministry and we started something called church and we started something called church and we started something called church anywhere that really blew up anywhere that really blew up anywhere that really blew up since then we've been able to baptize

since then we've been able to baptize since then we've been able to baptize somewhere around 500 people just through somewhere around 500 people just through somewhere around 500 people just through online and microsite connections online and microsite connections online and microsite connections and then our lead pastor uh who was and then our lead pastor uh who was and then our lead pastor uh who was there for 19 years decided that it's there for 19 years decided that it's there for 19 years decided that it's time for him to to retire he's almost 70 time for him to to retire he's almost 70 time for him to to retire he's almost 70 and last year they they approached me and last year they they approached me and last year they they approached me about becoming the next lead pastor here about becoming the next lead pastor here about becoming the next lead pastor here and this january i got confirmed so i'm and this january i got confirmed so i'm and this january i got confirmed so i'm for almost four months on the job right for almost four months on the job right for almost four months on the job right now now now wow and you haven't broken anything wow and you haven't broken anything wow and you haven't broken anything right nothing's right nothing's right nothing's not so fun the church is still standing not so fun the church is still standing not so fun the church is still standing so like everything's okay right now so like everything's okay right now so like everything's okay right now oh well i met i met tyler uh years ago oh well i met i met tyler uh years ago oh well i met i met tyler uh years ago at at the church i.t network conference at at the church i.t network conference at at the church i.t network conference um um um and uh we just it was fun got to hang and uh we just it was fun got to hang and uh we just it was fun got to hang out with this guy and he taught me quite out with this guy and he taught me quite out with this guy and he taught me quite a bit uh just from what this church is a bit uh just from what this church is a bit uh just from what this church is doing you know doing you know doing you know in the literally the sticks kind of in the literally the sticks kind of in the literally the sticks kind of literally out there in the sticks and literally out there in the sticks and literally out there in the sticks and they are making a huge impact and one they are making a huge impact and one they are making a huge impact and one thing you you taught me tyler and i thing you you taught me tyler and i thing you you taught me tyler and i mentioned this earlier and i almost say mentioned this earlier and i almost say mentioned this earlier and i almost say it here again is it here again is it here again is when it comes to like when it comes to like when it comes to like social media engagement when you're social media engagement when you're social media engagement when you're you're trying to make an impact and you're trying to make an impact and you're trying to make an impact and reach more people don't don't go it reach more people don't don't go it reach more people don't don't go it alone you know recruit a team of alone you know recruit a team of alone you know recruit a team of volunteers not only just to post stuff volunteers not only just to post stuff volunteers not only just to post stuff you know but but to actually respond and you know but but to actually respond and you know but but to actually respond and be your your team that's gonna be your your team that's gonna be your your team that's gonna you know make comments and share and you know make comments and share and you know make comments and share and like and all that kind of stuff expand like and all that kind of stuff expand like and all that kind of stuff expand on on how on on how on on how how did you how did you how did you how did you come up with that where did how did you come up with that where did how did you come up with that where did that go and how how's that that go and how how's that that go and how how's that that innovation of yours and where that innovation of yours and where that innovation of yours and where you're you're thinking that thinking

you're you're thinking that thinking you're you're thinking that thinking that through being creative how's that that through being creative how's that that through being creative how's that driven you to do what you do today yeah driven you to do what you do today yeah driven you to do what you do today yeah so like in 2015 or so when we first so like in 2015 or so when we first so like in 2015 or so when we first jumped on online we knew that uh social jumped on online we knew that uh social jumped on online we knew that uh social media would be a huge part of it when i media would be a huge part of it when i media would be a huge part of it when i say jumped on online i don't mean just say jumped on online i don't mean just say jumped on online i don't mean just like throwing our service on there we like throwing our service on there we like throwing our service on there we had made a conscious decision to try to had made a conscious decision to try to had made a conscious decision to try to use the internet like as a tool for use the internet like as a tool for use the internet like as a tool for ministry and so ministry and so ministry and so we knew social media would be huge but we knew social media would be huge but we knew social media would be huge but back in those days it was like the wild back in those days it was like the wild back in those days it was like the wild west on facebook because there wasn't a west on facebook because there wasn't a west on facebook because there wasn't a lot of churches there weren't a lot of lot of churches there weren't a lot of lot of churches there weren't a lot of businesses that were using it for businesses that were using it for businesses that were using it for engagement they were using it like a big engagement they were using it like a big engagement they were using it like a big bulletin board basically bulletin board basically bulletin board basically and it was it was a little bit before and it was it was a little bit before and it was it was a little bit before advertising was a main focus for advertising was a main focus for advertising was a main focus for facebook so when we first started the facebook so when we first started the facebook so when we first started the algorithm would just pump our stuff out algorithm would just pump our stuff out algorithm would just pump our stuff out to everybody i mean we had organic reach to everybody i mean we had organic reach to everybody i mean we had organic reach out like out like crazy out like out like crazy out like out like crazy but then um around 2017 or so but then um around 2017 or so but then um around 2017 or so the algorithm shifted it was like a big the algorithm shifted it was like a big the algorithm shifted it was like a big great panic moment for lots of churches great panic moment for lots of churches great panic moment for lots of churches because because because no longer were they able to put a random no longer were they able to put a random no longer were they able to put a random post out and get it seen by 10 000 post out and get it seen by 10 000 post out and get it seen by 10 000 people they were getting it seen by like people they were getting it seen by like people they were getting it seen by like 50 people 50 people 50 people because because because facebook switched towards engagement facebook switched towards engagement facebook switched towards engagement rather than just this organic reach so i rather than just this organic reach so i rather than just this organic reach so i knew at that point we got to do knew at that point we got to do knew at that point we got to do something different we got to prime the something different we got to prime the something different we got to prime the pump in some way pump in some way pump in some way and myself and a couple of our and myself and a couple of our and myself and a couple of our volunteers got together uh one evening volunteers got together uh one evening volunteers got together uh one evening and went through all these different and went through all these different and went through all these different options of what we could do and we came options of what we could do and we came options of what we could do and we came up with the the street team is what we up with the the street team is what we up with the the street team is what we called it at the time called it at the time called it at the time um um um and then it became social media team and then it became social media team and then it became social media team because street team sounded a little uh because street team sounded a little uh because street team sounded a little uh ministry-like for our people um but yeah ministry-like for our people um but yeah ministry-like for our people um but yeah we came up with that idea basically in

we came up with that idea basically in we came up with that idea basically in like one evening and then just launched like one evening and then just launched like one evening and then just launched it and um ever since then i've been it and um ever since then i've been it and um ever since then i've been adjusting it for the algorithm adjusting it for the algorithm adjusting it for the algorithm wow wow wow yeah um yeah um yeah um how are you how are you how are you so so you're so you just mentioned today so so you're so you just mentioned today so so you're so you just mentioned today you have these all these like micro you have these all these like micro you have these all these like micro sites talk about what that looks like um sites talk about what that looks like um sites talk about what that looks like um and because you said something that and because you said something that and because you said something that caught my attention that caught my attention that caught my attention that you literally will call people and go you literally will call people and go you literally will call people and go hey that's really cool you're doing that hey that's really cool you're doing that hey that's really cool you're doing that how are you using that for the kingdom i how are you using that for the kingdom i how are you using that for the kingdom i love that line because it makes people love that line because it makes people love that line because it makes people think so talk a little bit about your think so talk a little bit about your think so talk a little bit about your strategy with with those sites strategy with with those sites strategy with with those sites yeah for us uh this is it's a two-fold yeah for us uh this is it's a two-fold yeah for us uh this is it's a two-fold strategy obviously we want new people to strategy obviously we want new people to strategy obviously we want new people to hear the gospel that's that's a huge hear the gospel that's that's a huge hear the gospel that's that's a huge part of it new people hear the gospel part of it new people hear the gospel part of it new people hear the gospel and new people to be discipled but on and new people to be discipled but on and new people to be discipled but on the flip side of that we want microsite the flip side of that we want microsite the flip side of that we want microsite leaders uh to feel empowered to uh to leaders uh to feel empowered to uh to leaders uh to feel empowered to uh to follow something that they're passionate follow something that they're passionate follow something that they're passionate about and then for us to give them some about and then for us to give them some about and then for us to give them some structure to actually use that passion structure to actually use that passion structure to actually use that passion for a purpose in the kingdom and for a purpose in the kingdom and for a purpose in the kingdom and microsites are one of those ways so for microsites are one of those ways so for microsites are one of those ways so for us a microsite looks like us a microsite looks like us a microsite looks like our central team our staff providing our central team our staff providing our central team our staff providing digital content that's 30 minutes long digital content that's 30 minutes long digital content that's 30 minutes long and then giving that to and then giving that to and then giving that to like a we'll say an institutional thing like a we'll say an institutional thing like a we'll say an institutional thing like a jail so we give 30 minutes of like a jail so we give 30 minutes of like a jail so we give 30 minutes of content to a jail and then a leader from content to a jail and then a leader from content to a jail and then a leader from either our online campus or in person either our online campus or in person either our online campus or in person campus actually being in that jail with campus actually being in that jail with campus actually being in that jail with them with the team and then doing small them with the team and then doing small them with the team and then doing small groups after the 30 minutes of content groups after the 30 minutes of content groups after the 30 minutes of content and these have been tailored for all and these have been tailored for all and these have been tailored for all these different types of places recovery these different types of places recovery these different types of places recovery centers jails hospitals elementary

having a good prayer life having a good prayer life serving and then right thinking about serving and then right thinking about serving and then right thinking about god god god and so those are the areas that we've and so those are the areas that we've and so those are the areas that we've identified metrics that if we're identified metrics that if we're identified metrics that if we're outfitting people to use them in their outfitting people to use them in their outfitting people to use them in their daily lives here are the areas we want daily lives here are the areas we want daily lives here are the areas we want to want to track to want to track to want to track so for things so for things so for things on that same line we have things like on that same line we have things like on that same line we have things like baptisms and baptizers but we also have baptisms and baptizers but we also have baptisms and baptizers but we also have every time there's a baptism we want one every time there's a baptism we want one every time there's a baptism we want one to one them to be paired with a next to one them to be paired with a next to one them to be paired with a next step guide and that's literally a person step guide and that's literally a person step guide and that's literally a person who's been trained and given six months who's been trained and given six months who's been trained and given six months or six weeks of digital resources to or six weeks of digital resources to or six weeks of digital resources to walk beside of a new believer for six walk beside of a new believer for six walk beside of a new believer for six weeks to study them as they go so we weeks to study them as they go so we weeks to study them as they go so we don't focus on putting them in a class don't focus on putting them in a class don't focus on putting them in a class or anything like that it's very very or anything like that it's very very or anything like that it's very very much individual relationships much individual relationships much individual relationships and then by the end of that and then by the end of that and then by the end of that we hope that that relationship is we hope that that relationship is we hope that that relationship is blossomed and it goes beyond six weeks blossomed and it goes beyond six weeks blossomed and it goes beyond six weeks we just outfit them with six weeks of we just outfit them with six weeks of we just outfit them with six weeks of material we also count number of givers material we also count number of givers material we also count number of givers and and and that includes any opportunity to be that includes any opportunity to be that includes any opportunity to be generous so that could be like a special generous so that could be like a special generous so that could be like a special offering that's given we adopted a offering that's given we adopted a offering that's given we adopted a school this year and so that could be if school this year and so that could be if school this year and so that could be if somebody gives towards the school somebody gives towards the school somebody gives towards the school because we want people to take that next because we want people to take that next because we want people to take that next step to become generous not necessarily step to become generous not necessarily step to become generous not necessarily just to fill up the just to fill up the just to fill up the the offering numbers the offering numbers the offering numbers we also count connection opportunities we also count connection opportunities we also count connection opportunities so that could be a life group but that so that could be a life group but that so that could be a life group but that also could be also could be also could be like a one-off grief class or it could like a one-off grief class or it could like a one-off grief class or it could be be be like we have nights of worship so people like we have nights of worship so people like we have nights of worship so people that come to these nights of worship or that come to these nights of worship or that come to these nights of worship or prayer experiences or whatever that is prayer experiences or whatever that is prayer experiences or whatever that is we also developed an app called one step we also developed an app called one step we also developed an app called one step closer that every day sends a push closer that every day sends a push closer that every day sends a push notification and basically gamifies
