love to so uh this came to my mind years love to so uh this came to my mind years ago when ago when ago when when i was sitting thinking about i've when i was sitting thinking about i've when i was sitting thinking about i've you know i'm a former church you know i'm a former church you know i'm a former church communication director communication director communication director and you sit there and you look at like and you sit there and you look at like and you sit there and you look at like okay we're trying to okay we're trying to okay we're trying to my job is to try and get what i call my job is to try and get what i call my job is to try and get what i call cheeks in the seats cheeks in the seats cheeks in the seats and uh i knew if i could do that then and uh i knew if i could do that then and uh i knew if i could do that then you know you know you know our worship team our children's team of our worship team our children's team of our worship team our children's team of course our lead pastor as he preaches course our lead pastor as he preaches course our lead pastor as he preaches that's going to bring people back but that's going to bring people back but that's going to bring people back but it got me thinking about who who are we it got me thinking about who who are we it got me thinking about who who are we trying to target and what does that even trying to target and what does that even trying to target and what does that even look like and how do you kind of wrap look like and how do you kind of wrap look like and how do you kind of wrap your arms around that your arms around that your arms around that and and these just in my in my head and and these just in my in my head and and these just in my in my head three rings came to mind so i break them three rings came to mind so i break them three rings came to mind so i break them down this way and it's very important down this way and it's very important down this way and it's very important for you to kind of for you to kind of for you to kind of understand this because we talk we understand this because we talk we understand this because we talk we always talk in these three rings always talk in these three rings always talk in these three rings ring one are people who already go to ring one are people who already go to ring one are people who already go to your church your church your church now that's a that's a pretty big now that's a that's a pretty big now that's a that's a pretty big audience right for some churches audience right for some churches audience right for some churches it's in the thousands even though their it's in the thousands even though their it's in the thousands even though their weekly attendance is a lot less weekly attendance is a lot less weekly attendance is a lot less you know you got your christmas and you know you got your christmas and you know you got your christmas and easter people they come like once or easter people they come like once or easter people they come like once or twice a year twice a year twice a year all the way over to the people who are all the way over to the people who are all the way over to the people who are like die hard like die hard like die hard you know they're living out luke 9 23 you know they're living out luke 9 23 you know they're living out luke 9 23 carrying their cross carrying their cross carrying their cross daily and they are all in right they're daily and they are all in right they're daily and they are all in right they're small group leaders they attend every small group leaders they attend every small group leaders they attend every weekend they tie weekend they tie weekend they tie they give above and beyond all this they give above and beyond all this they give above and beyond all this stuff right so your ring one stuff right so your ring one stuff right so your ring one is anybody that is in that spectrum is anybody that is in that spectrum is anybody that is in that spectrum and it's important to understand how you and it's important to understand how you and it's important to understand how you communicate to those people communicate to those people communicate to those people that's ring one ring two ring two are that's ring one ring two ring two are that's ring one ring two ring two are people that are people that are people that are looking for a church they're in your looking for a church they're in your looking for a church they're in your community community community they're looking for a church they either they're looking for a church they either they're looking for a church they either maybe maybe they moved to the area maybe maybe they moved to the area maybe maybe they moved to the area uh maybe they their old church split

uh maybe they their old church split uh maybe they their old church split or they just were not happy with their or they just were not happy with their or they just were not happy with their old church so they're looking for a new old church so they're looking for a new old church so they're looking for a new one one one unfortunately i think a lot of times unfortunately i think a lot of times unfortunately i think a lot of times it's a divorce situation it's a divorce situation it's a divorce situation where you know okay she's gonna stay at where you know okay she's gonna stay at where you know okay she's gonna stay at the home church i gotta go find a new the home church i gotta go find a new the home church i gotta go find a new church church church that happens all the time but these are that happens all the time but these are that happens all the time but these are people people people that are looking for a church and they that are looking for a church and they that are looking for a church and they go to google and they'll google things go to google and they'll google things go to google and they'll google things like like like churches near me or best churches in my churches near me or best churches in my churches near me or best churches in my city city city this happens all the time and so you this happens all the time and so you this happens all the time and so you really want to be focused on really want to be focused on really want to be focused on ring two it's low hanging fruit then ring two it's low hanging fruit then ring two it's low hanging fruit then there's ring there's ring there's ring three ring three is by far and away the three ring three is by far and away the three ring three is by far and away the largest ring largest ring largest ring it's it's people that are searching for it's it's people that are searching for it's it's people that are searching for help with a felt need help with a felt need help with a felt need issue now uh they're not necessarily issue now uh they're not necessarily issue now uh they're not necessarily looking for church in fact looking for church in fact looking for church in fact maybe they don't even believe in god or maybe they don't even believe in god or maybe they don't even believe in god or they don't even think about church they they don't even think about church they they don't even think about church they don't like church don't like church don't like church but they've got an issue right they've but they've got an issue right they've but they've got an issue right they've got a marriage problem they've got a got a marriage problem they've got a got a marriage problem they've got a parenting issue parenting issue parenting issue they're overcoming an addiction maybe they're overcoming an addiction maybe they're overcoming an addiction maybe they're going through some grief or they're going through some grief or they're going through some grief or stress maybe they're looking for stress maybe they're looking for stress maybe they're looking for like how to be forgiven or maybe it's like how to be forgiven or maybe it's like how to be forgiven or maybe it's finances you get the idea finances you get the idea finances you get the idea tons and tons of felt need topics tons and tons of felt need topics tons and tons of felt need topics that we preach on all the time we built that we preach on all the time we built that we preach on all the time we built ministry around felt needs ministry around felt needs ministry around felt needs and yet these people that are outside of and yet these people that are outside of and yet these people that are outside of your church your church your church they could even be down the street they could even be down the street they could even be down the street they're looking and they're searching they're looking and they're searching they're looking and they're searching google google google for this help and they're not thinking for this help and they're not thinking for this help and they're not thinking about you about you about you but you have answers and so whenever we but you have answers and so whenever we but you have answers and so whenever we talk about ring three talk about ring three talk about ring three we talk about making connections with we talk about making connections with we talk about making connections with people that are outside that are people that are outside that are people that are outside that are searching in google searching in google searching in google we want them to find your local church

if you were to walk across the street to if you were to walk across the street to your neighbor your neighbor your neighbor who does not know jesus who does not who does not know jesus who does not who does not know jesus who does not have a church have a church have a church and they ask you why they should attend and they ask you why they should attend and they ask you why they should attend your church your church your church i want you to think about how you would i want you to think about how you would i want you to think about how you would answer that question answer that question answer that question and the way that you answer that and the way that you answer that and the way that you answer that question is the way that you should question is the way that you should question is the way that you should phrase phrase phrase the vision statement or sorry the the the vision statement or sorry the the the vision statement or sorry the the the the the benefit statement on your home page if benefit statement on your home page if benefit statement on your home page if you would say to your neighbor across you would say to your neighbor across you would say to your neighbor across the street the street the street well you should come because you're lost well you should come because you're lost well you should come because you're lost and we want to save you and we want to save you and we want to save you um i'd rethink the door slammed in your um i'd rethink the door slammed in your um i'd rethink the door slammed in your face so yeah face so yeah face so yeah rethink that but why why would you tell rethink that but why why would you tell rethink that but why why would you tell them you would probably say something them you would probably say something them you would probably say something like like like phenomenal people great community phenomenal people great community phenomenal people great community place where we can learn about god and place where we can learn about god and place where we can learn about god and grow together where we can learn how to grow together where we can learn how to grow together where we can learn how to use our gifts and our talents to be a use our gifts and our talents to be a use our gifts and our talents to be a blessing to other people blessing to other people blessing to other people you know there are all kinds of reasons you know there are all kinds of reasons you know there are all kinds of reasons that you would give that you would give that you would give to invite someone who doesn't know jesus to invite someone who doesn't know jesus to invite someone who doesn't know jesus to this church that you love to this church that you love to this church that you love lead with that on your website lead with that on your website lead with that on your website yeah and i gotta also speak into the yeah and i gotta also speak into the yeah and i gotta also speak into the fact that you know there's a there's a fact that you know there's a there's a fact that you know there's a there's a brand element brand element brand element the word brand gets thrown around out the word brand gets thrown around out the word brand gets thrown around out there like what's our brand you know and there like what's our brand you know and there like what's our brand you know and most people think it's an icon most people think it's an icon most people think it's an icon of their logo it's not your brand of their logo it's not your brand of their logo it's not your brand right your brand is what people outside right your brand is what people outside right your brand is what people outside think of you right so if i'm not tied to think of you right so if i'm not tied to think of you right so if i'm not tied to you and i don't you and i don't you and i don't i'm not a member of your church i didn't i'm not a member of your church i didn't i'm not a member of your church i didn't go to your church go to your church go to your church what i think about your church is often what i think about your church is often what i think about your church is often the brand it may it may be a misaligned the brand it may it may be a misaligned the brand it may it may be a misaligned brand brand brand like you might want to be this but other
