staff at a church yeah no it's it's staff at a church yeah no it's it's certainly unique and I've never I certainly unique and I've never I certainly unique and I've never I haven't seen the title before and nor haven't seen the title before and nor haven't seen the title before and nor did I create it did I create it did I create it um I I've been I've been on staff here um I I've been I've been on staff here um I I've been I've been on staff here at Providence for just that two years at Providence for just that two years at Providence for just that two years now now now um but my story is is non non-standard um but my story is is non non-standard um but my story is is non non-standard like I'm sure a lot of our people here like I'm sure a lot of our people here like I'm sure a lot of our people here that are listening that are listening that are listening um um um parents love Jesus uh was exposed to the parents love Jesus uh was exposed to the parents love Jesus uh was exposed to the gospel young age responded to Faith gospel young age responded to Faith gospel young age responded to Faith um knew that the Lord was calling me um knew that the Lord was calling me um knew that the Lord was calling me into some type of ministry at even in in into some type of ministry at even in in into some type of ministry at even in in school years didn't know what that was school years didn't know what that was school years didn't know what that was going to look like going to look like going to look like um but uh ended up following the Lord in um but uh ended up following the Lord in um but uh ended up following the Lord in theological education went to theological education went to theological education went to Southeastern seminary in Wake Forest Southeastern seminary in Wake Forest Southeastern seminary in Wake Forest North Carolina just north of Raleigh North Carolina just north of Raleigh North Carolina just north of Raleigh it's a Baptist Seminary there I went to it's a Baptist Seminary there I went to it's a Baptist Seminary there I went to college there and studied the Bible and college there and studied the Bible and college there and studied the Bible and philosophy philosophy philosophy and not and my my wife and I were dating and not and my my wife and I were dating and not and my my wife and I were dating at the time we were planning to go at the time we were planning to go at the time we were planning to go overseas thinking about missions we were overseas thinking about missions we were overseas thinking about missions we were like all right Lord wherever you send us like all right Lord wherever you send us like all right Lord wherever you send us we'll go and then it was 2008 the we'll go and then it was 2008 the we'll go and then it was 2008 the international Mission board with international Mission board with international Mission board with Baptists weren't sending people so we Baptists weren't sending people so we Baptists weren't sending people so we were like okay we can't go so what does were like okay we can't go so what does were like okay we can't go so what does this look like meanwhile I play guitar this look like meanwhile I play guitar this look like meanwhile I play guitar and helped to lead worship all through and helped to lead worship all through and helped to lead worship all through those years and kept getting those years and kept getting those years and kept getting opportunities to opportunities to opportunities to um um um yeah to lead worship with different yeah to lead worship with different yeah to lead worship with different worship leaders I wasn't the front guy I worship leaders I wasn't the front guy I worship leaders I wasn't the front guy I was always the guy on the side yeah okay was always the guy on the side yeah okay was always the guy on the side yeah okay so not the not the lead singer but so not the not the lead singer but so not the not the lead singer but always the the guitar player and um always the the guitar player and um always the the guitar player and um those opportunities kept growing and so those opportunities kept growing and so those opportunities kept growing and so as I was serving on staff doing student as I was serving on staff doing student as I was serving on staff doing student Ministry with my church that I'd grown Ministry with my church that I'd grown Ministry with my church that I'd grown up in during college felt the Lord up in during college felt the Lord up in during college felt the Lord leading me to do more music things and

leading me to do more music things and leading me to do more music things and Ministry in that space so I stepped down Ministry in that space so I stepped down Ministry in that space so I stepped down from being able to have a church from being able to have a church from being able to have a church um but I still obviously had to pay um but I still obviously had to pay um but I still obviously had to pay bills you don't get in the music bills you don't get in the music bills you don't get in the music industry because it's super lucrative industry because it's super lucrative industry because it's super lucrative nor the music Ministry one nor the music Ministry one nor the music Ministry one um but we still felt the Lord's leading um but we still felt the Lord's leading um but we still felt the Lord's leading Us in that direction as those Us in that direction as those Us in that direction as those opportunities kept coming opportunities kept coming opportunities kept coming um but my um but my um but my at that time my dad had bought a carpet at that time my dad had bought a carpet at that time my dad had bought a carpet cleaning business okay and uh so I cleaning business okay and uh so I cleaning business okay and uh so I worked with my dad in this carpet worked with my dad in this carpet worked with my dad in this carpet cleaning industry cleaning industry cleaning industry uh which paid my bills and had a boss uh which paid my bills and had a boss uh which paid my bills and had a boss who believed in my gifting and calling who believed in my gifting and calling who believed in my gifting and calling and he fueled my ability to uh be gone and he fueled my ability to uh be gone and he fueled my ability to uh be gone for chunks of time because I was going for chunks of time because I was going for chunks of time because I was going on tour or or whatever yeah and um which on tour or or whatever yeah and um which on tour or or whatever yeah and um which was super super unique and so for over was super super unique and so for over was super super unique and so for over 10 years I was scaling up a business uh 10 years I was scaling up a business uh 10 years I was scaling up a business uh in a small service industry in a market in a small service industry in a market in a small service industry in a market here in Raleigh learning marketing here in Raleigh learning marketing here in Raleigh learning marketing learning customer service learning learning customer service learning learning customer service learning communication and then I was also communication and then I was also communication and then I was also traveling most weekends traveling most weekends traveling most weekends um and I was not only playing guitar but um and I was not only playing guitar but um and I was not only playing guitar but I was I grew into doing all the I was I grew into doing all the I was I grew into doing all the financial management all of the booking financial management all of the booking financial management all of the booking all of the contract negotiation all the all of the contract negotiation all the all of the contract negotiation all the kind of business side of what it meant kind of business side of what it meant kind of business side of what it meant to run a Ministry to run a Ministry to run a Ministry um so I was in this business and um so I was in this business and um so I was in this business and Ministry space Ministry space Ministry space um and then covet hit and as many um and then covet hit and as many um and then covet hit and as many opportunities were changing for my opportunities were changing for my opportunities were changing for my Ministry what I was I was realizing that Ministry what I was I was realizing that Ministry what I was I was realizing that I was doing the business in order to

I was doing the business in order to I was doing the business in order to fulfill the calling of My Life as a fulfill the calling of My Life as a fulfill the calling of My Life as a um as somebody called to do ministry and um as somebody called to do ministry and um as somebody called to do ministry and so it begged all these questions okay so so it begged all these questions okay so so it begged all these questions okay so if I'm not able to go do the ministry if I'm not able to go do the ministry if I'm not able to go do the ministry that I thought I was called to do should that I thought I was called to do should that I thought I was called to do should I stay in this business space and for I stay in this business space and for I stay in this business space and for for for us it my wife and I we we felt for for us it my wife and I we we felt for for us it my wife and I we we felt led to explore what Ministry all in was led to explore what Ministry all in was led to explore what Ministry all in was going to look like and um and our church going to look like and um and our church going to look like and um and our church family encouraged the same other friends family encouraged the same other friends family encouraged the same other friends who are like hey I think you should look who are like hey I think you should look who are like hey I think you should look at church jobs at church jobs at church jobs um but uh my background was weird yeah I um but uh my background was weird yeah I um but uh my background was weird yeah I was was was um it was non-standard I hadn't been you um it was non-standard I hadn't been you um it was non-standard I hadn't been you could have you could have a church with could have you could have a church with could have you could have a church with really clean carpets like the cleanest really clean carpets like the cleanest really clean carpets like the cleanest carpets of any church in the country carpets of any church in the country carpets of any church in the country probably yeah and and uh we probably yeah and and uh we probably yeah and and uh we exactly and um and and at the same time exactly and um and and at the same time exactly and um and and at the same time I had four kids and and at the same time I had four kids and and at the same time I had four kids and and at the same time I felt completely or I felt well I felt completely or I felt well I felt completely or I felt well educated okay you know studying at educated okay you know studying at educated okay you know studying at Southeastern the thought of going back Southeastern the thought of going back Southeastern the thought of going back to get an mdiv to get an mdiv to get an mdiv to then try to get that professional to then try to get that professional to then try to get that professional degree to hop into some type of Pastor degree to hop into some type of Pastor degree to hop into some type of Pastor role just seemed crazy and talked to role just seemed crazy and talked to role just seemed crazy and talked to other head hunting firms they're like other head hunting firms they're like other head hunting firms they're like hey I think you should be looking into hey I think you should be looking into hey I think you should be looking into an executive type role that kind of an executive type role that kind of an executive type role that kind of marries some of your backgrounds so marries some of your backgrounds so marries some of your backgrounds so start a conversation with some of the start a conversation with some of the start a conversation with some of the people at my church even people at my church even people at my church even and then you know long story short this and then you know long story short this and then you know long story short this job opened up here but it didn't seem job opened up here but it didn't seem job opened up here but it didn't seem probable because I was late in the game probable because I was late in the game probable because I was late in the game and so then we were looking all over the and so then we were looking all over the and so then we were looking all over the country and then we got to stay we got country and then we got to stay we got country and then we got to stay we got to stay we were already attending to stay we were already attending to stay we were already attending Providence and

Providence and Providence and um and this this role I don't think um and this this role I don't think um and this this role I don't think could be it couldn't be more tailor-made could be it couldn't be more tailor-made could be it couldn't be more tailor-made to my background to my background to my background um so as the pastor of creative um so as the pastor of creative um so as the pastor of creative engagement here at Providence I oversee engagement here at Providence I oversee engagement here at Providence I oversee our worship teams our production teams our worship teams our production teams our worship teams our production teams and our Communications teams wow yeah and our Communications teams wow yeah and our Communications teams wow yeah you know those things so that's really you know those things so that's really you know those things so that's really interesting because interesting because interesting because I I think if you're typically overseeing I I think if you're typically overseeing I I think if you're typically overseeing those three areas you you probably have those three areas you you probably have those three areas you you probably have strength in one and you're like yeah I strength in one and you're like yeah I strength in one and you're like yeah I lead the other two they tend to go hand lead the other two they tend to go hand lead the other two they tend to go hand in hand all those three combined and and in hand all those three combined and and in hand all those three combined and and that's a good thing or a bad thing it that's a good thing or a bad thing it that's a good thing or a bad thing it depends on the church and from what depends on the church and from what depends on the church and from what you're sharing with me earlier you're sharing with me earlier you're sharing with me earlier Providence is a little bit of a Providence is a little bit of a Providence is a little bit of a different Church than your typical different Church than your typical different Church than your typical you know Baptist Church so talk to us a you know Baptist Church so talk to us a you know Baptist Church so talk to us a little bit about Providence what makes little bit about Providence what makes little bit about Providence what makes it different you're in Raleigh like it different you're in Raleigh like it different you're in Raleigh like that's like there's tons of churches that's like there's tons of churches that's like there's tons of churches like Walgreens there's one on every like Walgreens there's one on every like Walgreens there's one on every corner yeah tell us a little bit about Providence tell us a little bit about Providence yeah yeah we you know Providence is an yeah yeah we you know Providence is an yeah yeah we you know Providence is an amazing place and it was you know amazing place and it was you know amazing place and it was you know started in our founding pastor's living started in our founding pastor's living started in our founding pastor's living room and room and room and um they then they moved into I don't um they then they moved into I don't um they then they moved into I don't know all the exact history they're we're know all the exact history they're we're know all the exact history they're we're about to celebrate our 45th anniversary about to celebrate our 45th anniversary about to celebrate our 45th anniversary in the fall and um which is amazing but in the fall and um which is amazing but in the fall and um which is amazing but our founding Pastor still attends here our founding Pastor still attends here our founding Pastor still attends here still is a member here which is I think still is a member here which is I think still is a member here which is I think just a testimony to longevity and a just a testimony to longevity and a just a testimony to longevity and a testimony to what I think testimony to what I think testimony to what I think um um um is a part of the core of Providence uh is a part of the core of Providence uh is a part of the core of Providence uh there is a a steadfastness and a

there is a a steadfastness and a there is a a steadfastness and a steadiness and a commitment to truth and steadiness and a commitment to truth and steadiness and a commitment to truth and a commitment to trying to find ways for a commitment to trying to find ways for a commitment to trying to find ways for truth to apply to our life and to kind truth to apply to our life and to kind truth to apply to our life and to kind of activate people in their faith of activate people in their faith of activate people in their faith um that they're less committed to an um that they're less committed to an um that they're less committed to an institution and feels more like a institution and feels more like a institution and feels more like a movement obviously there's been seasons movement obviously there's been seasons movement obviously there's been seasons of different things here at Providence of different things here at Providence of different things here at Providence but where we currently fall I think that but where we currently fall I think that but where we currently fall I think that there's a there's a there's a um there's a radical commitment to truth um there's a radical commitment to truth um there's a radical commitment to truth and not uh not even necessarily a system and not uh not even necessarily a system and not uh not even necessarily a system or an ideology so we're not known as the or an ideology so we're not known as the or an ideology so we're not known as the the Charismatic Church we're not known the Charismatic Church we're not known the Charismatic Church we're not known as the Reformed Church we're not known as the Reformed Church we're not known as the Reformed Church we're not known as the conventional Baptist Church where as the conventional Baptist Church where as the conventional Baptist Church where just it's a Providence Church there's just it's a Providence Church there's just it's a Providence Church there's like a steadiness there and even over like a steadiness there and even over like a steadiness there and even over the the course of recent changes in the the course of recent changes in the the course of recent changes in faith spaces and all the hot button faith spaces and all the hot button faith spaces and all the hot button topics that have happened over the last topics that have happened over the last topics that have happened over the last couple years Providence has stayed true couple years Providence has stayed true couple years Providence has stayed true to keep the message about Jesus to keep to keep the message about Jesus to keep to keep the message about Jesus to keep the message about the about the good the message about the about the good the message about the about the good news of Christ rather than pigeonholing news of Christ rather than pigeonholing news of Christ rather than pigeonholing our perspective or what we hope all of our perspective or what we hope all of our perspective or what we hope all of our church members believe and we we're our church members believe and we we're our church members believe and we we're just super committed to um to trying to just super committed to um to trying to just super committed to um to trying to find a way to encourage our people to find a way to encourage our people to find a way to encourage our people to live out the faith that is exposed and live out the faith that is exposed and live out the faith that is exposed and ex uh encouraged in the Bible yeah I I ex uh encouraged in the Bible yeah I I ex uh encouraged in the Bible yeah I I love that because it's just it's love that because it's just it's love that because it's just it's you can't go wrong when you're uh you're you can't go wrong when you're uh you're you can't go wrong when you're uh you're focused on what's true from the Bible focused on what's true from the Bible focused on what's true from the Bible and and blaming the gospel and so if you and and blaming the gospel and so if you and and blaming the gospel and so if you know you're carrying that out through know you're carrying that out through know you're carrying that out through all areas of ministry it it it's it's all areas of ministry it it it's it's all areas of ministry it it it's it's going to be attractional tell me a going to be attractional tell me a going to be attractional tell me a little bit though because you know I little bit though because you know I little bit though because you know I know we're not in competition with other

know we're not in competition with other know we're not in competition with other churches right we're all on the same churches right we're all on the same churches right we're all on the same team if you're an Evangelical you know team if you're an Evangelical you know team if you're an Evangelical you know bible-believing Jesus is the authority bible-believing Jesus is the authority bible-believing Jesus is the authority church then yes we're on the same team church then yes we're on the same team church then yes we're on the same team but but but there are some differences right there's there are some differences right there's there are some differences right there's nuances and so tell me like how are you nuances and so tell me like how are you nuances and so tell me like how are you guys reaching people that other churches guys reaching people that other churches guys reaching people that other churches maybe are not What Makes You Different maybe are not What Makes You Different maybe are not What Makes You Different sure sure I think that um sure sure I think that um sure sure I think that um part of the part of the core of what we part of the part of the core of what we part of the part of the core of what we do in Ministry is we really do want to do in Ministry is we really do want to do in Ministry is we really do want to create a warm and welcoming environment create a warm and welcoming environment create a warm and welcoming environment for everybody for everybody for everybody um rather than in US versus them um rather than in US versus them um rather than in US versus them scenario like we want it we really want scenario like we want it we really want scenario like we want it we really want to look through the lens of our moments to look through the lens of our moments to look through the lens of our moments or experiences that like even if you or experiences that like even if you or experiences that like even if you haven't been to Providence before you haven't been to Providence before you haven't been to Providence before you kind of know what you need to do or kind of know what you need to do or kind of know what you need to do or where you should go or that kind of where you should go or that kind of where you should go or that kind of First Impressions piece of the puzzle First Impressions piece of the puzzle First Impressions piece of the puzzle and like uh we think about radical and like uh we think about radical and like uh we think about radical Hospitality here a lot that people would Hospitality here a lot that people would Hospitality here a lot that people would be would be welcomed you know right from be would be welcomed you know right from be would be welcomed you know right from the beginning and the beginning and the beginning and um and I think we also want to work away um and I think we also want to work away um and I think we also want to work away from uh the perspective that churches from uh the perspective that churches from uh the perspective that churches and church experiences often and church experiences often and church experiences often transactional you know growing up it was transactional you know growing up it was transactional you know growing up it was like you come to church and then you like you come to church and then you like you come to church and then you would give your ties or was the would give your ties or was the would give your ties or was the offertory good enough that I was willing offertory good enough that I was willing offertory good enough that I was willing to give up some of my money for that to give up some of my money for that to give up some of my money for that amount of entertainment you know there's amount of entertainment you know there's amount of entertainment you know there's like this weird like this weird like this weird kind of transactional experience where I kind of transactional experience where I kind of transactional experience where I don't we we all look we look through all don't we we all look we look through all don't we we all look we look through all of that now like we're like well clearly of that now like we're like well clearly of that now like we're like well clearly you're just trying to get something from you're just trying to get something from you're just trying to get something from me and um and so I think that that's I me and um and so I think that that's I me and um and so I think that that's I think that's somewhat unique um and I think that's somewhat unique um and I think that's somewhat unique um and I think Arc just like I said before our

think Arc just like I said before our think Arc just like I said before our steady commitment to the truths found in steady commitment to the truths found in steady commitment to the truths found in the Bible is just crucial it um we we the Bible is just crucial it um we we the Bible is just crucial it um we we have series that are topical that are have series that are topical that are have series that are topical that are trying to highlight certain uh ideas or trying to highlight certain uh ideas or trying to highlight certain uh ideas or we do topical sermons but the or series we do topical sermons but the or series we do topical sermons but the or series but they're off we still preach through but they're off we still preach through but they're off we still preach through a text or our our pastors are committed a text or our our pastors are committed a text or our our pastors are committed to to teaching the Bible and teaching to to teaching the Bible and teaching to to teaching the Bible and teaching the whole of it not just part of it the whole of it not just part of it the whole of it not just part of it we're currently in a series going we're currently in a series going we're currently in a series going through the Book of Daniel and uh as you through the Book of Daniel and uh as you through the Book of Daniel and uh as you know it's like the first part of the know it's like the first part of the know it's like the first part of the book is you know uh anecdotal it's book is you know uh anecdotal it's book is you know uh anecdotal it's telling the story it's history the telling the story it's history the telling the story it's history the dreams it's amazing then it gets on this dreams it's amazing then it gets on this dreams it's amazing then it gets on this like apocalyptic stuff it's just kind of like apocalyptic stuff it's just kind of like apocalyptic stuff it's just kind of wild you know and it Sparks all kinds of wild you know and it Sparks all kinds of wild you know and it Sparks all kinds of conversations about the Book of conversations about the Book of conversations about the Book of Revelation and end times and and our Revelation and end times and and our Revelation and end times and and our pastor's just done a phenomenal drop job pastor's just done a phenomenal drop job pastor's just done a phenomenal drop job navigating uh navigating uh navigating uh how to make that feel like it's how to make that feel like it's how to make that feel like it's important and that we don't just brush important and that we don't just brush important and that we don't just brush over it and it's it's amazing that we over it and it's it's amazing that we over it and it's it's amazing that we that we're celebrating a god who's uh in that we're celebrating a god who's uh in that we're celebrating a god who's uh in control of the whole universe and saw control of the whole universe and saw control of the whole universe and saw the end from the beginning and all that the end from the beginning and all that the end from the beginning and all that so radical commitment to the Bible is is so radical commitment to the Bible is is so radical commitment to the Bible is is crucial crucial crucial um and uh yeah you have a do you have a um and uh yeah you have a do you have a um and uh yeah you have a do you have a Monday night service we do we do yes so Monday night service we do we do yes so Monday night service we do we do yes so I when I got here two years ago it was I when I got here two years ago it was I when I got here two years ago it was um I got here this summer right before um I got here this summer right before um I got here this summer right before it started essentially and we had never it started essentially and we had never it started essentially and we had never done it before but as we were looking at done it before but as we were looking at done it before but as we were looking at the people around where our church is the people around where our church is the people around where our church is located in the City of Raleigh 30 of our located in the City of Raleigh 30 of our located in the City of Raleigh 30 of our of the people who lived in our area work of the people who lived in our area work of the people who lived in our area work on the weekends which makes it a lot

on the weekends which makes it a lot on the weekends which makes it a lot harder to come to a Sunday morning harder to come to a Sunday morning harder to come to a Sunday morning church service and even church service and even church service and even um even thinking about you know you go um even thinking about you know you go um even thinking about you know you go out to lunch after after church on out to lunch after after church on out to lunch after after church on Sunday and you want to invite your Sunday and you want to invite your Sunday and you want to invite your server to church on you know that you server to church on you know that you server to church on you know that you just came from it's like well they just came from it's like well they just came from it's like well they probably can't they were probably probably can't they were probably probably can't they were probably working yeah um and so we started the working yeah um and so we started the working yeah um and so we started the service on a Monday night not really service on a Monday night not really service on a Monday night not really knowing we thought it would knowing we thought it would knowing we thought it would um um um we thought it would reach young people we thought it would reach young people we thought it would reach young people or people who worked on the weekends but or people who worked on the weekends but or people who worked on the weekends but it really has turned into this it really has turned into this it really has turned into this it's our most diverse opportunity that it's our most diverse opportunity that it's our most diverse opportunity that we have here at Providence and so yeah we have here at Providence and so yeah we have here at Providence and so yeah on Monday nights at six o'clock we have on Monday nights at six o'clock we have on Monday nights at six o'clock we have a meal where we people can come and have a meal where we people can come and have a meal where we people can come and have community and um and share conversation community and um and share conversation community and um and share conversation then we have a service at seven o'clock then we have a service at seven o'clock then we have a service at seven o'clock and it's typically a little bit shorter and it's typically a little bit shorter and it's typically a little bit shorter than our Sunday Morning Experience than our Sunday Morning Experience than our Sunday Morning Experience um but it's our it's still live band um but it's our it's still live band um but it's our it's still live band Live preaching or whoever preaches Live preaching or whoever preaches Live preaching or whoever preaches Sunday preaches Monday uh it's a it's a Sunday preaches Monday uh it's a it's a Sunday preaches Monday uh it's a it's a different band but we try to do similar different band but we try to do similar different band but we try to do similar songs as possible and um yeah it's a songs as possible and um yeah it's a songs as possible and um yeah it's a it's a Monday night service and so we it's a Monday night service and so we it's a Monday night service and so we you know it started out with a thing and you know it started out with a thing and you know it started out with a thing and it felt like you know a couple hundred it felt like you know a couple hundred it felt like you know a couple hundred people and then it kind of dwindled last people and then it kind of dwindled last people and then it kind of dwindled last fall we were like I don't know if this fall we were like I don't know if this fall we were like I don't know if this is gonna go but after the new year you is gonna go but after the new year you is gonna go but after the new year you know the Lord's been kind and we've been know the Lord's been kind and we've been know the Lord's been kind and we've been seeing around 150 coming on a Monday seeing around 150 coming on a Monday seeing around 150 coming on a Monday night which is night which is night which is um um um crazy yeah that's that's different crazy yeah that's that's different crazy yeah that's that's different I mean 150 people on Monday night is I mean 150 people on Monday night is I mean 150 people on Monday night is bigger than 80 of the churches in the bigger than 80 of the churches in the bigger than 80 of the churches in the country right if you think about that country right if you think about that country right if you think about that right yeah so just like I think I think right yeah so just like I think I think right yeah so just like I think I think it what we've seen in it's anecdotal it what we've seen in it's anecdotal it what we've seen in it's anecdotal because in terms of like because in terms of like because in terms of like the data points or not we don't know

the data points or not we don't know the data points or not we don't know everybody but we've seen people move everybody but we've seen people move everybody but we've seen people move from Monday to a Sunday morning so maybe from Monday to a Sunday morning so maybe from Monday to a Sunday morning so maybe people are they're they're drawn to or people are they're they're drawn to or people are they're they're drawn to or invited to the community piece of a invited to the community piece of a invited to the community piece of a Monday night but then they start to plug Monday night but then they start to plug Monday night but then they start to plug into the larger life of Providence into the larger life of Providence into the larger life of Providence because on a Sunday morning we can have because on a Sunday morning we can have because on a Sunday morning we can have over 2 000 people here on a weekend and over 2 000 people here on a weekend and over 2 000 people here on a weekend and the scale of that type of experience is the scale of that type of experience is the scale of that type of experience is overwhelming if you're not familiar and overwhelming if you're not familiar and overwhelming if you're not familiar and if if you're not like being you know if if you're not like being you know if if you're not like being you know holding hands with a friend or meeting holding hands with a friend or meeting holding hands with a friend or meeting somebody and so I think the Monday night somebody and so I think the Monday night somebody and so I think the Monday night service has created kind of a lower service has created kind of a lower service has created kind of a lower scale of entry for for a lot of people scale of entry for for a lot of people scale of entry for for a lot of people um Dan we've seen it just reach um like um Dan we've seen it just reach um like um Dan we've seen it just reach um like elderly people it's hard to get up in elderly people it's hard to get up in elderly people it's hard to get up in the morning who want to come to a live the morning who want to come to a live the morning who want to come to a live service versus just live stream we've service versus just live stream we've service versus just live stream we've seen it reach people who live a little seen it reach people who live a little seen it reach people who live a little bit farther away and they work on the bit farther away and they work on the bit farther away and they work on the weekends it's just easier to come to and weekends it's just easier to come to and weekends it's just easier to come to and still want to do an in-person Gathering still want to do an in-person Gathering still want to do an in-person Gathering um and so it's really um and so it's really um and so it's really it's it's been way more varied in its it's it's been way more varied in its it's it's been way more varied in its demographic than we ever imagined yeah demographic than we ever imagined yeah demographic than we ever imagined yeah yeah okay okay so I I have a I want to yeah okay okay so I I have a I want to yeah okay okay so I I have a I want to dive into dive into dive into structure because you oversee worship structure because you oversee worship structure because you oversee worship production and Communications and as a production and Communications and as a production and Communications and as a calm guy I kind of go yeah worship and calm guy I kind of go yeah worship and calm guy I kind of go yeah worship and Productions like you know they're tied Productions like you know they're tied Productions like you know they're tied together but us calm people we're over together but us calm people we're over together but us calm people we're over on the other side of that house right we on the other side of that house right we on the other side of that house right we don't yeah but you oversee both and so don't yeah but you oversee both and so don't yeah but you oversee both and so talk to us a little bit about and this talk to us a little bit about and this talk to us a little bit about and this is really important for com directors is really important for com directors is really important for com directors listening to this how you've how have listening to this how you've how have listening to this how you've how have you uh integrated or meshed these three

leaders about the way that they staff leaders about the way that they staff their Communications teams their Communications teams their Communications teams um and you know for the normal size um and you know for the normal size um and you know for the normal size Church uh you know they want to go and Church uh you know they want to go and Church uh you know they want to go and hire a communications director and I've hire a communications director and I've hire a communications director and I've walked this journey with churches and walked this journey with churches and walked this journey with churches and they're like okay I need somebody who they're like okay I need somebody who they're like okay I need somebody who can do graphic design and and write copy can do graphic design and and write copy can do graphic design and and write copy and they're an expert in After Effects and they're an expert in After Effects and they're an expert in After Effects an Adobe Premiere and they can do all of an Adobe Premiere and they can do all of an Adobe Premiere and they can do all of these different things and I think what these different things and I think what these different things and I think what Tyler just hit on is actually really Tyler just hit on is actually really Tyler just hit on is actually really really important for pastors and church really important for pastors and church really important for pastors and church leaders to hear the best comms directors leaders to hear the best comms directors leaders to hear the best comms directors that I have an opportunity to rub elbows that I have an opportunity to rub elbows that I have an opportunity to rub elbows with are not necessarily the most with are not necessarily the most with are not necessarily the most creative people they're not necessarily creative people they're not necessarily creative people they're not necessarily the people who are the experts in the the people who are the experts in the the people who are the experts in the Adobe Creative Suite they are the best Adobe Creative Suite they are the best Adobe Creative Suite they are the best project managers project coordinators project managers project coordinators project managers project coordinators they can take 40 different things that they can take 40 different things that they can take 40 different things that are flying at them all at the same time are flying at them all at the same time are flying at them all at the same time and they can get those things done and and they can get those things done and and they can get those things done and get them done in the timeline in which get them done in the timeline in which get them done in the timeline in which they need to be done whether that means they need to be done whether that means they need to be done whether that means finding Volunteers in the church that finding Volunteers in the church that finding Volunteers in the church that can actually help support those things can actually help support those things can actually help support those things whether it's web updates or graphic whether it's web updates or graphic whether it's web updates or graphic design or creating social media content design or creating social media content design or creating social media content or they're Outsourcing it right it's or they're Outsourcing it right it's or they're Outsourcing it right it's that it's that project management piece that it's that project management piece that it's that project management piece that is just so crucial and the larger that is just so crucial and the larger that is just so crucial and the larger the church gets project management is the church gets project management is the church gets project management is easy easier to scale than it is to scale easy easier to scale than it is to scale easy easier to scale than it is to scale a Communications team if the people in a Communications team if the people in a Communications team if the people in your Communications team are all your Communications team are all your Communications team are all technicians so I just thought that was technicians so I just thought that was technicians so I just thought that was really an interesting way that you really an interesting way that you really an interesting way that you describe your team and and really the describe your team and and really the describe your team and and really the gifting that all of you you have you gifting that all of you you have you gifting that all of you you have you wouldn't consider yourself a graphic

um there's people are affluent and uh um there's people are affluent and uh people where Providence is located is is people where Providence is located is is people where Providence is located is is convenient to the city a lot of people convenient to the city a lot of people convenient to the city a lot of people are traveling here or moving here are traveling here or moving here are traveling here or moving here they've come here to go to school they they've come here to go to school they they've come here to go to school they get good jobs and then their get good jobs and then their get good jobs and then their grandparents show up because all the grandparents show up because all the grandparents show up because all the grandkids are here so it's it's really grandkids are here so it's it's really grandkids are here so it's it's really is a growing place but where it's is a growing place but where it's is a growing place but where it's growing we're also becoming less and growing we're also becoming less and growing we're also becoming less and less and less Christian you know the less and less Christian you know the less and less Christian you know the thought is the projections here are like thought is the projections here are like thought is the projections here are like in 10 years the expectancy is that we in 10 years the expectancy is that we in 10 years the expectancy is that we would be three percent charged here in would be three percent charged here in would be three percent charged here in Raleigh and that's in North Carolina you Raleigh and that's in North Carolina you Raleigh and that's in North Carolina you know that is the bucket yes the Buckle know that is the bucket yes the Buckle know that is the bucket yes the Buckle of the Bible though yeah but you know of the Bible though yeah but you know of the Bible though yeah but you know you've got you've got a lot of high-tech you've got you've got a lot of high-tech you've got you've got a lot of high-tech industry too right and you know this is industry too right and you know this is industry too right and you know this is something that that Tyler and I have something that that Tyler and I have something that that Tyler and I have noted is that they actually compared to noted is that they actually compared to noted is that they actually compared to a lot of other churches have a dis a lot of other churches have a dis a lot of other churches have a dis disproportionate disproportionate disproportionate um percentage of people coming to their um percentage of people coming to their um percentage of people coming to their Church website Via mobile device and Church website Via mobile device and Church website Via mobile device and very very few on desktop and a lot of it very very few on desktop and a lot of it very very few on desktop and a lot of it speaks to the the tech savvy nature of speaks to the the tech savvy nature of speaks to the the tech savvy nature of the people that are moving to the the people that are moving to the the people that are moving to the community community community um I mean most most places are mobile um I mean most most places are mobile um I mean most most places are mobile first and every Church ought to be first and every Church ought to be first and every Church ought to be looking at its website through mobile looking at its website through mobile looking at its website through mobile first but um you know in areas like first but um you know in areas like first but um you know in areas like Silicon Valley and in you know the Silicon Valley and in you know the Silicon Valley and in you know the technology triangle there in in North technology triangle there in in North technology triangle there in in North Carolina there's just a really really Carolina there's just a really really Carolina there's just a really really higher a much higher percentage of higher a much higher percentage of higher a much higher percentage of people that are our mobile first and people that are our mobile first and people that are our mobile first and many of them probably don't ever Google many of them probably don't ever Google many of them probably don't ever Google anything on a on a desktop or a or a anything on a on a desktop or a or a anything on a on a desktop or a or a laptop yeah laptop yeah laptop yeah yeah and I would say this too like as we yeah and I would say this too like as we yeah and I would say this too like as we think about our our website we're still think about our our website we're still think about our our website we're still figuring it out and um and there's been figuring it out and um and there's been figuring it out and um and there's been some there's been some change turbulence some there's been some change turbulence some there's been some change turbulence even internally with our ministry team

even internally with our ministry team even internally with our ministry team leaders because you know their leaders because you know their leaders because you know their expectation was like well we had a expectation was like well we had a expectation was like well we had a landing page and then you know that's landing page and then you know that's landing page and then you know that's where we put everything and I think um where we put everything and I think um where we put everything and I think um for a lot of churches for a lot of churches for a lot of churches uh uh uh uh if there's an illusion of uh if there's an illusion of uh if there's an illusion of communication that happens by pushing it communication that happens by pushing it communication that happens by pushing it to the internet to the internet to the internet if you're not actually telling somebody if you're not actually telling somebody if you're not actually telling somebody or driving somebody to the web page or driving somebody to the web page or driving somebody to the web page no one's necessarily going to find it no one's necessarily going to find it no one's necessarily going to find it yeah and so I think we've got to figure yeah and so I think we've got to figure yeah and so I think we've got to figure out the right way to create a mechanism out the right way to create a mechanism out the right way to create a mechanism that's actually going to drive people to that's actually going to drive people to that's actually going to drive people to the page the page the page um otherwise you're just casting it into um otherwise you're just casting it into um otherwise you're just casting it into the black hole of the internet the black hole of the internet the black hole of the internet pretty much yeah yeah there's a there's pretty much yeah yeah there's a there's pretty much yeah yeah there's a there's a balance there with uh you know keeping a balance there with uh you know keeping a balance there with uh you know keeping the 99 engaged but your heart should be the 99 engaged but your heart should be the 99 engaged but your heart should be set on the one and so there's a there's set on the one and so there's a there's set on the one and so there's a there's that it's attention yeah it's tension that it's attention yeah it's tension that it's attention yeah it's tension it's just balance of it all and so yes it's just balance of it all and so yes it's just balance of it all and so yes Ministries you are right where we need Ministries you are right where we need Ministries you are right where we need to be able to serve you so people that to be able to serve you so people that to be able to serve you so people that are looking for your stuff can find it are looking for your stuff can find it are looking for your stuff can find it easily but I'm telling you like I'll easily but I'm telling you like I'll easily but I'm telling you like I'll always talk about the Kids Page the kid always talk about the Kids Page the kid always talk about the Kids Page the kid page should be built for that that that page should be built for that that that page should be built for that that that mom that doesn't go to church and she's mom that doesn't go to church and she's mom that doesn't go to church and she's a little skeptical I don't know if I can a little skeptical I don't know if I can a little skeptical I don't know if I can trust you with my four children right trust you with my four children right trust you with my four children right right and you've got to communicate that right and you've got to communicate that right and you've got to communicate that you can and you you know you can't you can and you you know you can't you can and you you know you can't really say that but what about other really say that but what about other really say that but what about other people that could communicate that people that could communicate that people that could communicate that through a testimonial video on why they through a testimonial video on why they through a testimonial video on why they love bringing their kids stuff like that love bringing their kids stuff like that love bringing their kids stuff like that so it's just more than just you know a so it's just more than just you know a so it's just more than just you know a few bits of information so yeah I think few bits of information so yeah I think few bits of information so yeah I think you're on it you're never done your you're on it you're never done your you're on it you're never done your website's never finished so we're still website's never finished so we're still website's never finished so we're still figuring it out yeah

figuring it out yeah figuring it out yeah good stuff well okay let's wind this good stuff well okay let's wind this good stuff well okay let's wind this down we've uh we've been going quite down we've uh we've been going quite down we've uh we've been going quite quite a while here I want to also ask quite a while here I want to also ask quite a while here I want to also ask you you know where you you know where you you know where who are you tapping into because you're who are you tapping into because you're who are you tapping into because you're a really good leader and you're leading a really good leader and you're leading a really good leader and you're leading people but who's leading you what do you people but who's leading you what do you people but who's leading you what do you tap into to get fed you know different tap into to get fed you know different tap into to get fed you know different podcasts or books or things of that podcasts or books or things of that podcasts or books or things of that nature yeah that's a really good nature yeah that's a really good nature yeah that's a really good question I mean like and like I said I question I mean like and like I said I question I mean like and like I said I I've not been a church com guy and so I've not been a church com guy and so I've not been a church com guy and so there's been a it's been a deep learning there's been a it's been a deep learning there's been a it's been a deep learning or a steep learning curve I would say or a steep learning curve I would say or a steep learning curve I would say and just in terms of learning and so and just in terms of learning and so and just in terms of learning and so I've relied heavily on our our own I've relied heavily on our our own I've relied heavily on our our own pastors here at Providence our senior pastors here at Providence our senior pastors here at Providence our senior pastor and our executive Pastor are been pastor and our executive Pastor are been pastor and our executive Pastor are been here a long time so they know the people here a long time so they know the people here a long time so they know the people here which is really important to me here which is really important to me here which is really important to me like you got to know the people you're like you got to know the people you're like you got to know the people you're trying to care for and you're trying to trying to care for and you're trying to trying to care for and you're trying to lead lead lead um so I'm asking lots of questions like um so I'm asking lots of questions like um so I'm asking lots of questions like how have you guys done this before did how have you guys done this before did how have you guys done this before did it work you know not just we're not just it work you know not just we're not just it work you know not just we're not just trying to reproduce What they've always trying to reproduce What they've always trying to reproduce What they've always done but if it's not broke there's no done but if it's not broke there's no done but if it's not broke there's no reason to reboot it reason to reboot it reason to reboot it um our Communications team uh we're all um our Communications team uh we're all um our Communications team uh we're all newer you know our one of my teammates newer you know our one of my teammates newer you know our one of my teammates has been here for five or six years but has been here for five or six years but has been here for five or six years but you know she's lived through changes and you know she's lived through changes and you know she's lived through changes and then we hired the other the other team then we hired the other the other team then we hired the other the other team member she's new been here just out a member she's new been here just out a member she's new been here just out a year so none of us have like this is how year so none of us have like this is how year so none of us have like this is how we've always always done it we've always always done it we've always always done it um so there's a lot of that just asking um so there's a lot of that just asking um so there's a lot of that just asking what has been done and trying to learn what has been done and trying to learn what has been done and trying to learn um and before I got here our executive um and before I got here our executive um and before I got here our executive pastor had been working with a creative pastor had been working with a creative pastor had been working with a creative consultant her name was Kim Meyer yeah consultant her name was Kim Meyer yeah consultant her name was Kim Meyer yeah you've heard of her and um so she had you've heard of her and um so she had you've heard of her and um so she had been working with our executive Pastor

been working with our executive Pastor been working with our executive Pastor to talk through a lot of things here to talk through a lot of things here to talk through a lot of things here over a stretch of time so over the last over a stretch of time so over the last over a stretch of time so over the last two years I've been meeting with her uh two years I've been meeting with her uh two years I've been meeting with her uh once a month and that's been super once a month and that's been super once a month and that's been super helpful she's um she's been very very helpful she's um she's been very very helpful she's um she's been very very encouraging uh and really just helping encouraging uh and really just helping encouraging uh and really just helping me to keep the big thing the big thing me to keep the big thing the big thing me to keep the big thing the big thing yeah and not sweat the small stuff yeah and not sweat the small stuff yeah and not sweat the small stuff because with Communications you can get because with Communications you can get because with Communications you can get stuck in the weeds really really quickly stuck in the weeds really really quickly stuck in the weeds really really quickly and uh sweat the small stuff and and uh sweat the small stuff and and uh sweat the small stuff and um and so she's been she's been really um and so she's been she's been really um and so she's been she's been really encouraging so when I have a question of encouraging so when I have a question of encouraging so when I have a question of like should I think about this is this like should I think about this is this like should I think about this is this something I should chase down now or something I should chase down now or something I should chase down now or should this be six months from now should this be six months from now should this be six months from now she's she's been like okay you should do she's she's been like okay you should do she's she's been like okay you should do that now or wait or whatever and um so that now or wait or whatever and um so that now or wait or whatever and um so having a having a personal coach has having a having a personal coach has having a having a personal coach has been a huge benefit and there's you know been a huge benefit and there's you know been a huge benefit and there's you know I think that there's uh I think that there's uh I think that there's uh um um um there's a Litany of podcasts and things there's a Litany of podcasts and things there's a Litany of podcasts and things that are out there uh you know carry new that are out there uh you know carry new that are out there uh you know carry new offices helpful you know his leadership offices helpful you know his leadership offices helpful you know his leadership stuff I think is helpful stuff I think is helpful stuff I think is helpful um and uh yeah I think there's just some um and uh yeah I think there's just some um and uh yeah I think there's just some of it's just you know School of Hard of it's just you know School of Hard of it's just you know School of Hard Knocks and being willing to try and not Knocks and being willing to try and not Knocks and being willing to try and not and being humble enough to get it wrong that wasn't great or we could have done that wasn't great or we could have done that better and I wish I could do this that better and I wish I could do this that better and I wish I could do this and so we're all still learning and I'm and so we're all still learning and I'm and so we're all still learning and I'm grateful for the space to to explore grateful for the space to to explore grateful for the space to to explore I do want to mention since you mentioned I do want to mention since you mentioned I do want to mention since you mentioned Ken Meyer we actually had last fall Ken Meyer we actually had last fall Ken Meyer we actually had last fall um one of kem's team members uh Amy um one of kem's team members uh Amy um one of kem's team members uh Amy Cheney on our podcast and I will link to Cheney on our podcast and I will link to Cheney on our podcast and I will link to that episode uh in the show notes of
