uh walked out my life and and live life uh walked out my life and and live life and so for 25 years i was in and so for 25 years i was in and so for 25 years i was in the media space the media space the media space radio in particular and with a radio in particular and with a radio in particular and with a handful of different radio stations and handful of different radio stations and handful of different radio stations and radio groups and radio groups and radio groups and a a a 20 and a half year career at a station 20 and a half year career at a station 20 and a half year career at a station in dallas and station group and top in dallas and station group and top in dallas and station group and top sales were up there and uh sales were up there and uh sales were up there and uh around 2016 2017 the lord began to call around 2016 2017 the lord began to call around 2016 2017 the lord began to call me me me into ministry and and to work for into ministry and and to work for into ministry and and to work for gateway church and it made no sense to gateway church and it made no sense to gateway church and it made no sense to me whatsoever me whatsoever me whatsoever but i was called but i was called but i was called and i heard i believed and i obeyed and i heard i believed and i obeyed and i heard i believed and i obeyed and so over about a year-long and so over about a year-long and so over about a year-long conversation of saying wait are we sure conversation of saying wait are we sure conversation of saying wait are we sure about this because i'm i don't want to about this because i'm i don't want to about this because i'm i don't want to be that guy that walks away from a you be that guy that walks away from a you be that guy that walks away from a you know storied career and know storied career and know storied career and successful in my business and i walk successful in my business and i walk successful in my business and i walk away and go work at the church yay away and go work at the church yay away and go work at the church yay okay great okay great okay great so the lord spoke to me very clearly one so the lord spoke to me very clearly one so the lord spoke to me very clearly one day and i asked him for scripture to day and i asked him for scripture to day and i asked him for scripture to back the decision to leave my career back the decision to leave my career back the decision to leave my career to go work for gateway church and he to go work for gateway church and he to go work for gateway church and he very very very graciously and immediately said the graciously and immediately said the graciously and immediately said the words luke 5.

words luke 5. words luke 5. now pastor i did not know now pastor i did not know now pastor i did not know and i had not memorized luke 5 so i go and i had not memorized luke 5 so i go and i had not memorized luke 5 so i go to luke 5 and it's the story of the to luke 5 and it's the story of the to luke 5 and it's the story of the fisher of men when jesus walked up and fisher of men when jesus walked up and fisher of men when jesus walked up and called them called them called them to follow him and i thought oh that's to follow him and i thought oh that's to follow him and i thought oh that's cute cute cute well the lord then took me on a journey well the lord then took me on a journey well the lord then took me on a journey cross-referencing luke 5 1-11 mark 1 cross-referencing luke 5 1-11 mark 1 cross-referencing luke 5 1-11 mark 1 16-20 and matthew 4 16-20 and matthew 4 16-20 and matthew 4 18-22 and here's what the lord showed me 18-22 and here's what the lord showed me 18-22 and here's what the lord showed me he showed me that when he walked up onto he showed me that when he walked up onto he showed me that when he walked up onto the shoreline the shoreline the shoreline he called them to follow him and they he called them to follow him and they he called them to follow him and they immediately immediately immediately the key word there is immediately the key word there is immediately the key word there is immediately dropped their nets and followed him they dropped their nets and followed him they dropped their nets and followed him they then got in a boat with him they were in then got in a boat with him they were in then got in a boat with him they were in the shallows he took them into the deep the shallows he took them into the deep the shallows he took them into the deep and he the lord shared with me right and he the lord shared with me right and he the lord shared with me right there that there that there that what he was going to show me in the what he was going to show me in the what he was going to show me in the depths where he was going to take me is depths where he was going to take me is depths where he was going to take me is going to look different than what's in going to look different than what's in going to look different than what's in the shallows and the waters look the shallows and the waters look the shallows and the waters look different the things look different the different the things look different the different the things look different the lord's created and the deep versus the lord's created and the deep versus the lord's created and the deep versus the shallows shallows shallows then the lord showed me where he called then the lord showed me where he called then the lord showed me where he called them to throw their nets out well they them to throw their nets out well they them to throw their nets out well they were in their vocation occupation at the were in their vocation occupation at the were in their vocation occupation at the moment they're like yeah we fished all moment they're like yeah we fished all moment they're like yeah we fished all day there's not good fishing they threw day there's not good fishing they threw day there's not good fishing they threw their nets out their nets were bursting their nets out their nets were bursting their nets out their nets were bursting with fish and the lord showed me in that with fish and the lord showed me in that with fish and the lord showed me in that moment that he's going to take care of moment that he's going to take care of moment that he's going to take care of me provisionally me provisionally me provisionally as well as when i got to gateway what as well as when i got to gateway what as well as when i got to gateway what that represented was salvation and a that represented was salvation and a that represented was salvation and a bursting of salvation i'm like okay bursting of salvation i'm like okay bursting of salvation i'm like okay that's that's excellent well if all that that's that's excellent well if all that that's that's excellent well if all that wasn't good enough wasn't good enough wasn't good enough the lord asked me he said clint what the lord asked me he said clint what the lord asked me he said clint what have you done your vocation your have you done your vocation your have you done your vocation your occupation i'm like marketed promoted occupation i'm like marketed promoted occupation i'm like marketed promoted sold things sold things sold things work with clients and he said right one work with clients and he said right one work with clients and he said right one of the analogies you would use is you're

of the analogies you would use is you're of the analogies you would use is you're a fisherman caught a well today caught a a fisherman caught a well today caught a a fisherman caught a well today caught a minnow today i'm like oh okay and the minnow today i'm like oh okay and the minnow today i'm like oh okay and the lord says to me he said lord says to me he said lord says to me he said what you'd been doing your vocation your what you'd been doing your vocation your what you'd been doing your vocation your occupations you would catch things that occupations you would catch things that occupations you would catch things that were alive that then would die were alive that then would die were alive that then would die he said i'm flipping the script i'm he said i'm flipping the script i'm he said i'm flipping the script i'm calling you to a place where you're calling you to a place where you're calling you to a place where you're going to catch things that are dead going to catch things that are dead going to catch things that are dead that will then become alive in me where do i sign i'm in where do i sign i'm in so that that's my luke 5 story as i like so that that's my luke 5 story as i like so that that's my luke 5 story as i like to call it and really it just boils down to call it and really it just boils down to call it and really it just boils down to to to hearing believing and obeying hearing believing and obeying hearing believing and obeying and uh following the lord and uh following the lord and uh following the lord wow wow wow i i love that story i i kind of have a i i love that story i i kind of have a i i love that story i i kind of have a similar thing come from the marketplace similar thing come from the marketplace similar thing come from the marketplace i i like to think god has a sense of i i like to think god has a sense of i i like to think god has a sense of humor like humor like humor like you want me like no no no me to do this you want me like no no no me to do this you want me like no no no me to do this play this role and it was i am i'm so play this role and it was i am i'm so play this role and it was i am i'm so blessed that i stepped in the space of blessed that i stepped in the space of blessed that i stepped in the space of being a being a being a a communication director a really large a communication director a really large a communication director a really large church church church um it blessed me way more than the other um it blessed me way more than the other um it blessed me way more than the other way around and and it's all because god way around and and it's all because god way around and and it's all because god had a plan for our lives right like you had a plan for our lives right like you had a plan for our lives right like you said we just said we just said we just submit submit submit and obey and i believe it and and obey and i believe it and and obey and i believe it and it's it's worked out really well so it's it's worked out really well so it's it's worked out really well so okay so tell us give us a okay so tell us give us a okay so tell us give us a little picture of what it is you've what little picture of what it is you've what little picture of what it is you've what is what do you do is what do you do is what do you do for gateway for gateway for gateway that's a great question a lot that's a great question a lot that's a great question a lot we we do a lot welcome to ministry we we do a lot welcome to ministry we we do a lot welcome to ministry exactly um

exactly um exactly um so so so basically in a nutshell our our team is basically in a nutshell our our team is basically in a nutshell our our team is is responsible for the voice of gateway is responsible for the voice of gateway is responsible for the voice of gateway church and church and church and and the brand of gateway church and the and the brand of gateway church and the and the brand of gateway church and the things that are things that are things that are uh heard spoken seen uh heard spoken seen uh heard spoken seen um i think uh um i think uh um i think uh kind of wanted to give an overview of of kind of wanted to give an overview of of kind of wanted to give an overview of of the team that i lead the team that i lead the team that i lead that's if that's all right yeah part of the team uh if you will one part of the team uh if you will one thing that i've tried to do since being thing that i've tried to do since being thing that i've tried to do since being here is to really surround myself with here is to really surround myself with here is to really surround myself with the best of the best the best of the best the best of the best and you know i learned that a long time and you know i learned that a long time and you know i learned that a long time ago but one ago but one ago but one particular individual who who caught my particular individual who who caught my particular individual who who caught my attention that to me does it the best in attention that to me does it the best in attention that to me does it the best in the in the christian music industry is a the in the christian music industry is a the in the christian music industry is a guy named toby mack i don't know if guy named toby mack i don't know if guy named toby mack i don't know if you've heard of toby or not you've heard of toby or not you've heard of toby or not but if you look at toby and his but if you look at toby and his but if you look at toby and his longevity you go what has made toby longevity you go what has made toby longevity you go what has made toby successful and i had the opportunity one successful and i had the opportunity one successful and i had the opportunity one time to sit down with him and have this time to sit down with him and have this time to sit down with him and have this conversation actually tell him that i conversation actually tell him that i conversation actually tell him that i really admire about him is that he has really admire about him is that he has really admire about him is that he has surrounded himself with some of the best surrounded himself with some of the best surrounded himself with some of the best musicians the best singers the best musicians the best singers the best musicians the best singers the best producers the best artists and that's producers the best artists and that's producers the best artists and that's what has helped propel him for decades what has helped propel him for decades what has helped propel him for decades and so just taking that concept of and so just taking that concept of and so just taking that concept of surrounding myself here at the gateway surrounding myself here at the gateway surrounding myself here at the gateway with the team just some of the best of with the team just some of the best of with the team just some of the best of the best the best the best we've we've we've kind of reworked our structure when i kind of reworked our structure when i kind of reworked our structure when i came in i realized came in i realized came in i realized we were set up more like a production we were set up more like a production we were set up more like a production house house house where the ministries or or the campuses where the ministries or or the campuses where the ministries or or the campuses would ask us to produce a widget produce would ask us to produce a widget produce would ask us to produce a widget produce a thing a thing a thing and so we got really good at producing and so we got really good at producing and so we got really good at producing things but we had a mind shift of being

things but we had a mind shift of being things but we had a mind shift of being the duke from being the doers to being the duke from being the doers to being the duke from being the doers to being the stewards the stewards the stewards and what i mean by that is that we would and what i mean by that is that we would and what i mean by that is that we would steward steward steward vision we would steward a burden so when vision we would steward a burden so when vision we would steward a burden so when pastor robert was coming out with a new pastor robert was coming out with a new pastor robert was coming out with a new series for example we would always series for example we would always series for example we would always it would we'd ask the question what's it would we'd ask the question what's it would we'd ask the question what's the burden what what what is the vision the burden what what what is the vision the burden what what what is the vision that he's wanting to accomplish with that he's wanting to accomplish with that he's wanting to accomplish with this uh if we have a ministry that says this uh if we have a ministry that says this uh if we have a ministry that says we want to do a thing said great what's we want to do a thing said great what's we want to do a thing said great what's the vision and what's the what's the the vision and what's the what's the the vision and what's the what's the burden burden burden and then it's our job to help create and then it's our job to help create and then it's our job to help create whether it be visually or with words whether it be visually or with words whether it be visually or with words uh or with a video uh or with a video uh or with a video to help support that vision and even to help support that vision and even to help support that vision and even that burden but when we kind of reworked that burden but when we kind of reworked that burden but when we kind of reworked ourselves we we put ourselves in a ourselves we we put ourselves in a ourselves we we put ourselves in a position instead of a a production house position instead of a a production house position instead of a a production house more of a mini boutique ad agency more of a mini boutique ad agency more of a mini boutique ad agency and and and really with that again like i had said really with that again like i had said really with that again like i had said it's to steward the vision the burden it's to steward the vision the burden it's to steward the vision the burden and the heart and the heart and the heart and then we create from that perspective and then we create from that perspective and then we create from that perspective our primarily our primarily our primarily our primary role in responsibility our primary role in responsibility our primary role in responsibility uh we've started to shift our thinking uh we've started to shift our thinking uh we've started to shift our thinking as well as our outward facing as well as our outward facing as well as our outward facing actions towards people and that was actions towards people and that was actions towards people and that was we're here to support and serve we're here to support and serve we're here to support and serve now we're not the doers of all the now we're not the doers of all the now we're not the doers of all the things anymore things anymore things anymore but we do have experts on the team who but we do have experts on the team who but we do have experts on the team who can speak into that and then we can help can speak into that and then we can help can speak into that and then we can help seek solutions for whatever your goals seek solutions for whatever your goals seek solutions for whatever your goals are or that burden is are or that burden is are or that burden is um um um we also began to use language like we're we also began to use language like we're we also began to use language like we're here to serve and support our clients

here to serve and support our clients here to serve and support our clients yikes you just call the ministry a yikes you just call the ministry a yikes you just call the ministry a client and that has actually picked up client and that has actually picked up client and that has actually picked up some language internally where it's not some language internally where it's not some language internally where it's not a bad thing a bad thing a bad thing i mean they they're the ones that are i mean they they're the ones that are i mean they they're the ones that are carrying carrying carrying the the need to deliver on an event or the the need to deliver on an event or the the need to deliver on an event or the weekend services element and so the weekend services element and so the weekend services element and so they're the client we're here to serve they're the client we're here to serve they're the client we're here to serve and support them and support them and support them and and to help them again to accomplish and and to help them again to accomplish and and to help them again to accomplish that goal or deliver on that bird that goal or deliver on that bird that goal or deliver on that bird so so so let me ask you a follow-up question to let me ask you a follow-up question to let me ask you a follow-up question to that uh clint so you've been on the the that uh clint so you've been on the the that uh clint so you've been on the the staff there at gateway for about four staff there at gateway for about four staff there at gateway for about four years can you years can you years can you you you you kind of alluded to you you you kind of alluded to you you you kind of alluded to what the department was like when you what the department was like when you what the department was like when you first got there you've obviously had to first got there you've obviously had to first got there you've obviously had to lead some change lead some change lead some change to get the team where it is today to get the team where it is today to get the team where it is today and it's one thing to lead your team and it's one thing to lead your team and it's one thing to lead your team towards that change it's a completely towards that change it's a completely towards that change it's a completely different ball of wax to get buy-in from different ball of wax to get buy-in from different ball of wax to get buy-in from all the other ministry leaders who were all the other ministry leaders who were all the other ministry leaders who were accustomed to just seeing your team as a accustomed to just seeing your team as a accustomed to just seeing your team as a production shop hey we're having this production shop hey we're having this production shop hey we're having this we're doing this we need this we're doing this we need this we're doing this we need this what were some of the i'd love to hear what were some of the i'd love to hear what were some of the i'd love to hear some of the the strategies that you had some of the the strategies that you had some of the the strategies that you had to implement to get buy-in from some of to implement to get buy-in from some of to implement to get buy-in from some of those ministry leaders as well as to um those ministry leaders as well as to um those ministry leaders as well as to um hear about how maybe you had to overcome hear about how maybe you had to overcome hear about how maybe you had to overcome some some pushback that you might have some some pushback that you might have some some pushback that you might have gotten from some of the other ministries gotten from some of the other ministries gotten from some of the other ministries from you know some people who hey look from you know some people who hey look from you know some people who hey look clint i've been on staff here for 10 clint i've been on staff here for 10 clint i've been on staff here for 10 years and we've been doing it this way

years and we've been doing it this way years and we've been doing it this way for 10 years and now you come in and you for 10 years and now you come in and you for 10 years and now you come in and you want to change the way we do it they're want to change the way we do it they're want to change the way we do it they're going to be some people who are probably going to be some people who are probably going to be some people who are probably going to get their feelings hurt about going to get their feelings hurt about going to get their feelings hurt about not being able to do it the way they've not being able to do it the way they've not being able to do it the way they've always done it can you can you speak always done it can you can you speak always done it can you can you speak into that a little bit absolutely i into that a little bit absolutely i into that a little bit absolutely i think think think there's a okay so just go with me here there's a okay so just go with me here there's a okay so just go with me here because we're going to touch on a few because we're going to touch on a few because we're going to touch on a few different things that you tell me what i'll take a little bit high level and i'll take a little bit high level and i'll take a little bit high level and then we'll we'll kind of figure out then we'll we'll kind of figure out then we'll first six months that makes no sense months that makes no sense months that makes no sense he's like just do nothing i want you to he's like just do nothing i want you to he's like just do nothing i want you to come in and listen and observe and then come in and listen and observe and then come in and listen and observe and then the next six months begin to ideate and the next six months begin to ideate and the next six months begin to ideate and pray and ask the lord how does he see it pray and ask the lord how does he see it pray and ask the lord how does he see it what does he see for the future so again what does he see for the future so again what does he see for the future so again it's it's getting leadership buy-in it's it's getting leadership buy-in it's it's getting leadership buy-in just being patient with the process and just being patient with the process and just being patient with the process and not coming in immediately going change not coming in immediately going change not coming in immediately going change change change so that's one piece that i change change so that's one piece that i change change so that's one piece that i would add a second piece would add a second piece would add a second piece would be i had to work on my team first would be i had to work on my team first would be i had to work on my team first as you alluded to and then we work as you alluded to and then we work as you alluded to and then we work inside outward inside outward inside outward and so with that and so with that and so with that there are things like skip level there are things like skip level there are things like skip level meetings so i would put together skip meetings so i would put together skip meetings so i would put together skip level meetings and i would get my level meetings and i would get my level meetings and i would get my leaders comfortable with me going to the leaders comfortable with me going to the leaders comfortable with me going to the people that they lead and go take them people that they lead and go take them people that they lead and go take them to coffee and to lunches and ask some to coffee and to lunches and ask some to coffee and to lunches and ask some honest feedback and some direct honest feedback and some direct honest feedback and some direct questions questions questions there are things called lateral and there are things called lateral and there are things called lateral and linear leading linear leading linear leading i don't know you can google it and and i don't know you can google it and and i
