met in a high school and then about four met in a high school and then about four years ago we purchased a lazy boy it was years ago we purchased a lazy boy it was years ago we purchased a lazy boy it was a Lazy Boy Furniture store if you know a Lazy Boy Furniture store if you know a Lazy Boy Furniture store if you know what that is and we turned it into a what that is and we turned it into a what that is and we turned it into a church and it's in Bloomingdale so we're church and it's in Bloomingdale so we're church and it's in Bloomingdale so we're like on a non-traffic day 45 minutes out like on a non-traffic day 45 minutes out like on a non-traffic day 45 minutes out of the city um but the unique thing of the city um but the unique thing of the city um but the unique thing about where mission is and a lot of our about where mission is and a lot of our about where mission is and a lot of our heart is around the 10 that's what we heart is around the 10 that's what we heart is around the 10 that's what we call it it's the 10 surrounding towns um call it it's the 10 surrounding towns um call it it's the 10 surrounding towns um and so the interesting part about the 10 and so the interesting part about the 10 and so the interesting part about the 10 is that um it's a it's is that um it's a it's is that um it's a it's generational people who are born here generational people who are born here generational people who are born here stay here or they come back you know stay here or they come back you know stay here or they come back you know they they go and live in the city for a they they go and live in the city for a they they go and live in the city for a little bit for those 20s and then they little bit for those 20s and then they little bit for those 20s and then they come back and they raise their family come back and they raise their family come back and they raise their family here so it's really multigenerational here so it's really multigenerational here so it's really multigenerational here and we see that reflected in our here and we see that reflected in our here and we see that reflected in our church which is really cool um but yeah church which is really cool um but yeah church which is really cool um but yeah so I have been coming to Mission since I so I have been coming to Mission since I so I have been coming to Mission since I was 18 so that's 10 years now so I've was 18 so that's 10 years now so I've was 18 so that's 10 years now so I've been around for lot of the changes and been around for lot of the changes and been around for lot of the changes and the growth and the moves and all of the growth and the moves and all of the growth and the moves and all of those things um but I've been on staff those things um but I've been on staff those things um but I've been on staff here for five years okay so you're the here for five years okay so you're the here for five years okay so you're the communications director yes tell us how communications director yes tell us how communications director yes tell us how did that all did that all did that all happen yeah so I I have no formal happen yeah so I I have no formal happen yeah so I I have no formal training which I don't think is too rare training which I don't think is too rare training which I don't think is too rare in the church world but um working in a in the church world but um working in a in the church world but um working in a church was never what I thought I would church was never what I thought I would church was never what I thought I would be doing but I would never trade it for be doing but I would never trade it for be doing but I would never trade it for the world um I was just kind of one of the world um I was just kind of one of the world um I was just kind of one of those super volunteers I was on my way those super volunteers I was on my way those super volunteers I was on my way to becoming a a professional wedding to becoming a a professional wedding to becoming a a professional wedding photographer I still do that and I was photographer I still do that and I was photographer I still do that and I was doing that at the time I was just kind doing that at the time I was just kind doing that at the time I was just kind of starting it um and so you know

of starting it um and so you know of starting it um and so you know usually when you're in that creative usually when you're in that creative usually when you're in that creative field you're wearing a lot of hats so I field you're wearing a lot of hats so I field you're wearing a lot of hats so I was volunteering at Mission as a photo was volunteering at Mission as a photo was volunteering at Mission as a photo volunteer um doing some social media for volunteer um doing some social media for volunteer um doing some social media for them and it just kind of got to that you them and it just kind of got to that you them and it just kind of got to that you know that gray area of like you're doing know that gray area of like you're doing know that gray area of like you're doing a lot maybe we should pay you and so um a lot maybe we should pay you and so um a lot maybe we should pay you and so um so they hired me on for just 10 hours a so they hired me on for just 10 hours a so they hired me on for just 10 hours a week and just over the past five years week and just over the past five years week and just over the past five years that's just grown and now I'm here that's just grown and now I'm here that's just grown and now I'm here full-time and um running the full-time and um running the full-time and um running the communications team and so it's been communications team and so it's been communications team and so it's been such a whirlwind and I've learned so such a whirlwind and I've learned so such a whirlwind and I've learned so much I mean I've literally just been much I mean I've literally just been much I mean I've literally just been self-taught through all of this stuff self-taught through all of this stuff self-taught through all of this stuff and so um it's but it's been such a gift and so um it's but it's been such a gift and so um it's but it's been such a gift to be a part of this team yeah yeah I I to be a part of this team yeah yeah I I to be a part of this team yeah yeah I I I can really relate to you because I I I can really relate to you because I I I can really relate to you because I I did the same thing we both did the same thing we both did the same thing we both pioneered this new position in our and pioneered this new position in our and pioneered this new position in our and the churches we we served at and uh the churches we we served at and uh the churches we we served at and uh you're actively involved with this so um you're actively involved with this so um you're actively involved with this so um I want to hit on a few things and and I want to hit on a few things and and I want to hit on a few things and and this will be really relevant to our our this will be really relevant to our our this will be really relevant to our our audience because a lot of our audience audience because a lot of our audience audience because a lot of our audience are com directors but you know there are com directors but you know there are com directors but you know there there's also all kinds of other leaders there's also all kinds of other leaders there's also all kinds of other leaders that that pay attention to our podcasts that that pay attention to our podcasts that that pay attention to our podcasts so thanks for listening uh but uh you so thanks for listening uh but uh you so thanks for listening uh but uh you know I think it's really important for know I think it's really important for know I think it's really important for us to to kind of learn and this will be us to to kind of learn and this will be us to to kind of learn and this will be really helpful for some people so just really helpful for some people so just really helpful for some people so just talk to me about when you got talk to me about when you got talk to me about when you got started um what you know going back started um what you know going back started um what you know going back would you change any of the of the would you change any of the of the would you change any of the of the methods that did to kind of build this methods that did to kind of build this methods that did to kind of build this up or what were some of the pain points up or what were some of the pain points up or what were some of the pain points that you you just kind of caught on that you you just kind of caught on that you you just kind of caught on early on as you getting early on as you getting early on as you getting started yeah so when I got on staff

started yeah so when I got on staff started yeah so when I got on staff there was um like the communications there was um like the communications there was um like the communications director before me and so I was under director before me and so I was under director before me and so I was under him and um we just had really different him and um we just had really different him and um we just had really different um we had different skills in that he um we had different skills in that he um we had different skills in that he was the creative type he was so good at was the creative type he was so good at was the creative type he was so good at all the graphic design and the video and all the graphic design and the video and all the graphic design and the video and all of that stuff and I am just so Type all of that stuff and I am just so Type all of that stuff and I am just so Type A I'm a one on the anagram like I really A I'm a one on the anagram like I really A I'm a one on the anagram like I really just helped make sure things got done just helped make sure things got done just helped make sure things got done make sure that our mission vision and make sure that our mission vision and make sure that our mission vision and values were at the Forefront of it um values were at the Forefront of it um values were at the Forefront of it um and so the where so much pain came in and so the where so much pain came in and so the where so much pain came in and so much learning came in was um when and so much learning came in was um when and so much learning came in was um when he left the team to go work at another he left the team to go work at another he left the team to go work at another church it it's all good but you know church it it's all good but you know church it it's all good but you know things happen his family moved to things happen his family moved to things happen his family moved to Colorado which it's hard not to move to Colorado which it's hard not to move to Colorado which it's hard not to move to Colorado that seems to be everybody's Colorado that seems to be everybody's Colorado that seems to be everybody's favorite thing to do um but that was was favorite thing to do um but that was was favorite thing to do um but that was was just so jarring for me um you know for a just so jarring for me um you know for a just so jarring for me um you know for a lot of reasons of one no formal training lot of reasons of one no formal training lot of reasons of one no formal training two I was like 23 years old and had no two I was like 23 years old and had no two I was like 23 years old and had no idea what I was doing to begin with in idea what I was doing to begin with in idea what I was doing to begin with in life much less in this position at a life much less in this position at a life much less in this position at a church and so that's when my that was church and so that's when my that was church and so that's when my that was when my role really expanded and when I when my role really expanded and when I when my role really expanded and when I went full-time and I had to learn went full-time and I had to learn went full-time and I had to learn illustrator and Photoshop and all these illustrator and Photoshop and all these illustrator and Photoshop and all these things I had never done before um things I had never done before um things I had never done before um Premiere you like literally everything Premiere you like literally everything Premiere you like literally everything Adobe I had never touched before because Adobe I had never touched before because Adobe I had never touched before because I wasn't the one necessarily creating I wasn't the one necessarily creating I wasn't the one necessarily creating things I was really just like things I was really just like things I was really just like facilitating a lot of it yeah um and it facilitating a lot of it yeah um and it facilitating a lot of it yeah um and it was like literally at the beginning of was like literally at the beginning of was like literally at the beginning of Co so it was just a ripple effect of a Co so it was just a ripple effect of a Co so it was just a ripple effect of a lot going on but it ended up being it

lot going on but it ended up being it lot going on but it ended up being it for as stressful and as hard as like for as stressful and as hard as like for as stressful and as hard as like those first six months were when he left those first six months were when he left those first six months were when he left and I was just kind of on my own I I and I was just kind of on my own I I and I was just kind of on my own I I would not be where I am today I wouldn't would not be where I am today I wouldn't would not be where I am today I wouldn't know the things I wouldn't like I think know the things I wouldn't like I think know the things I wouldn't like I think it just grew my leadership in so in so it just grew my leadership in so in so it just grew my leadership in so in so many ways of just like I don't have a many ways of just like I don't have a many ways of just like I don't have a choice I kind of I just like I have to choice I kind of I just like I have to choice I kind of I just like I have to do this this is on me now which is a do this this is on me now which is a do this this is on me now which is a huge learning curve and a huge huge learning curve and a huge huge learning curve and a huge responsibility but I think I just kind responsibility but I think I just kind responsibility but I think I just kind of rose to the occasion because I had to of rose to the occasion because I had to of rose to the occasion because I had to and I grew so much in it um but yeah so and I grew so much in it um but yeah so and I grew so much in it um but yeah so it was it was a weird learning curve it was it was a weird learning curve it was it was a weird learning curve because it I just I wasn't expecting it because it I just I wasn't expecting it because it I just I wasn't expecting it um and I wouldn't change it because it um and I wouldn't change it because it um and I wouldn't change it because it was it it was so it ended up being so was it it was so it ended up being so was it it was so it ended up being so great and I learned so much from it yeah great and I learned so much from it yeah great and I learned so much from it yeah I sometimes I think that when you're I sometimes I think that when you're I sometimes I think that when you're just forced into the fire you know it's just forced into the fire you know it's just forced into the fire you know it's either you accept it or you get out yeah either you accept it or you get out yeah either you accept it or you get out yeah you if you can't take the heat so it you if you can't take the heat so it you if you can't take the heat so it sounds like you brought it on and you sounds like you brought it on and you sounds like you brought it on and you just kind of plowed through and made it just kind of plowed through and made it just kind of plowed through and made it all happen huh yeah yeah so so the uh so all happen huh yeah yeah so so the uh so all happen huh yeah yeah so so the uh so so today so you've been in this for five so today so you've been in this for five so today so you've been in this for five years and and I know that you're you're years and and I know that you're you're years and and I know that you're you're part of the the church Communications part of the the church Communications part of the the church Communications Facebook group if you're not a part of Facebook group if you're not a part of Facebook group if you're not a part of that people you should probably join it that people you should probably join it that people you should probably join it go to Facebook and search for church go to Facebook and search for church go to Facebook and search for church Communications it's a private group it's Communications it's a private group it's Communications it's a private group it's like 33,000 people strong I love group like 33,000 people strong I love group like 33,000 people strong I love group it's so to me about your involvement it's so to me about your involvement it's so to me about your involvement there yeah I love the group I love like there yeah I love the group I love like there yeah I love the group I love like sharing the things that our church is sharing the things that our church is sharing the things that our church is doing to show other people different doing to show other people different doing to show other people different options of things they can be doing like options of things they can be doing like options of things they can be doing like so one of the I I went a little like so one of the I I went a little like so one of the I I went a little like viral on the page like two years ago

viral on the page like two years ago viral on the page like two years ago because um it was like you know the because um it was like you know the because um it was like you know the heart of live streaming everybody's heart of live streaming everybody's heart of live streaming everybody's hiring they're trying to figure out hiring they're trying to figure out hiring they're trying to figure out things to make their Church live stream things to make their Church live stream things to make their Church live stream and I posted on there and I said our and I posted on there and I said our and I posted on there and I said our church has stopped live streaming here church has stopped live streaming here church has stopped live streaming here is our two-minute welcome to mission is our two-minute welcome to mission is our two-minute welcome to mission video and how we are and here's like our video and how we are and here's like our video and how we are and here's like our decision and so that got a ton of decision and so that got a ton of decision and so that got a ton of feedback positive and negative it was it feedback positive and negative it was it feedback positive and negative it was it was fun but it was a I I just love the was fun but it was a I I just love the was fun but it was a I I just love the group because it is great to just like group because it is great to just like group because it is great to just like obviously there's so many different obviously there's so many different obviously there's so many different contexts there's so much uh from my city contexts there's so much uh from my city contexts there's so much uh from my city to the next it's so different the people to the next it's so different the people to the next it's so different the people group you're you're serving and so it's group you're you're serving and so it's group you're you're serving and so it's just a great way to learn from people just a great way to learn from people just a great way to learn from people and to also teach people in like a and to also teach people in like a and to also teach people in like a loving way obviously like I don't you loving way obviously like I don't you loving way obviously like I don't you know I I'm just giving you ideas you know I I'm just giving you ideas you know I I'm just giving you ideas you don't have to do anything with it but I don't have to do anything with it but I don't have to do anything with it but I love to see other people's ideas I think love to see other people's ideas I think love to see other people's ideas I think cool to see what other churches are cool to see what other churches are cool to see what other churches are doing I ask so many questions on there I doing I ask so many questions on there I doing I ask so many questions on there I say show me your merch I need some say show me your merch I need some say show me your merch I need some inspiration show me what you're doing inspiration show me what you're doing inspiration show me what you're doing for Christmas so it's it's really fun to for Christmas so it's it's really fun to for Christmas so it's it's really fun to be a part of and especially in a role be a part of and especially in a role be a part of and especially in a role where I am for a lot of it a one woman where I am for a lot of it a one woman where I am for a lot of it a one woman show it's great to just like have some show it's great to just like have some show it's great to just like have some people to bounce ideas off of yeah people to bounce ideas off of yeah people to bounce ideas off of yeah totally totally yeah so speaking of that totally totally yeah so speaking of that totally totally yeah so speaking of that so you just mentioned and I'm really so you just mentioned and I'm really so you just mentioned and I'm really impressed because you had to learn all impressed because you had to learn all impressed because you had to learn all these Adobe products and that's not easy these Adobe products and that's not easy these Adobe products and that's not easy right that's that takes time and you're right that's that takes time and you're right that's that takes time and you're so you're not only doing you know your so you're not only doing you know your so you're not only doing you know your com director role you're also learning com director role you're also learning com director role you're also learning all the all the all the tools so talk to me a little bit about tools so talk to me a little bit about tools so talk to me a little bit about that com director role what's been one that com director role what's been one that com director role what's been one of the biggest um you know hurdles or

like five to seven questions about if like five to seven questions about if they're really lining up with our they're really lining up with our they're really lining up with our mission vision and values to help people mission vision and values to help people mission vision and values to help people find and follow Christ to see a movement find and follow Christ to see a movement find and follow Christ to see a movement of Jesus in the ten In Our Lifetime did of Jesus in the ten In Our Lifetime did of Jesus in the ten In Our Lifetime did people gather grow or go because of this people gather grow or go because of this people gather grow or go because of this task that we did and I think just task that we did and I think just task that we did and I think just organiz ation Al from the top down that organiz ation Al from the top down that organiz ation Al from the top down that gave all of us such a great lens of what gave all of us such a great lens of what gave all of us such a great lens of what really is important because yes there really is important because yes there really is important because yes there are a lot of fun things there's a lot of are a lot of fun things there's a lot of are a lot of fun things there's a lot of great ideas but not every great idea has great ideas but not every great idea has great ideas but not every great idea has to get done and I think when you really to get done and I think when you really to get done and I think when you really have the which I think something have the which I think something have the which I think something something I am grateful for and something I am grateful for and something I am grateful for and truthfully I had no part of it's really truthfully I had no part of it's really truthfully I had no part of it's really our leadership they have such a clear our leadership they have such a clear our leadership they have such a clear direction of where we're going as a direction of where we're going as a direction of where we're going as a church our mission vision and values and church our mission vision and values and church our mission vision and values and so it gives us such a great lens to see so it gives us such a great lens to see so it gives us such a great lens to see what work is the most important work and what work is the most important work and what work is the most important work and so I think like I said I didn't come up so I think like I said I didn't come up so I think like I said I didn't come up with that it organizationally from the with that it organizationally from the with that it organizationally from the top down they've they've instilled that top down they've they've instilled that top down they've they've instilled that in us and so that has helped me so much in us and so that has helped me so much in us and so that has helped me so much in my job just to say hey I love this in my job just to say hey I love this in my job just to say hey I love this idea for this kids event thing whatever idea for this kids event thing whatever idea for this kids event thing whatever but just really getting to the heart of but just really getting to the heart of but just really getting to the heart of like why are we doing it are we doing it like why are we doing it are we doing it like why are we doing it are we doing it because it's a fun great idea that you because it's a fun great idea that you because it's a fun great idea that you saw on Tik Tok and other students liked saw on Tik Tok and other students liked saw on Tik Tok and other students liked it that's great I love that but also at it that's great I love that but also at it that's great I love that but also at the same time is this furthering our the same time is this furthering our the same time is this furthering our vision as a church is are more people vision as a church is are more people vision as a church is are more people entering the kingdom because of this and entering the kingdom because of this and entering the kingdom because of this and so I think there's just you really need so I think there's just you really need so I think there's just you really need to um you got to see the end in sight to um you got to see the end in sight to um you got to see the end in sight well I I love that example and what a

those people getting into a small group those people getting into a small group and working on their faith which is and working on their faith which is and working on their faith which is great I love that yeah but uh it's a great I love that yeah but uh it's a great I love that yeah but uh it's a different it's a different different it's a different different it's a different mindset you know and so I'm always mindset you know and so I'm always mindset you know and so I'm always encouraging churches as a former encouraging churches as a former encouraging churches as a former communication director myself of going communication director myself of going communication director myself of going get your people the the tools they need get your people the the tools they need get your people the the tools they need right and and let them go and invite and right and and let them go and invite and right and and let them go and invite and bring their friends and families and bring their friends and families and bring their friends and families and I'll even work with churches to kind of I'll even work with churches to kind of I'll even work with churches to kind of say hey we're g to Target this say hey we're g to Target this say hey we're g to Target this neighborhood you tell the people who neighborhood you tell the people who neighborhood you tell the people who live in that neighborhood here's what live in that neighborhood here's what live in that neighborhood here's what we're doing as a church to support you we're doing as a church to support you we're doing as a church to support you we're going to run some ads and do a we're going to run some ads and do a we're going to run some ads and do a direct mail piece or whatever it is but direct mail piece or whatever it is but direct mail piece or whatever it is but we need you to go do your we need you to go do your we need you to go do your job that'd be kind of a cool approach as job that'd be kind of a cool approach as job that'd be kind of a cool approach as well so yeah y so you so five years well so yeah y so you so five years well so yeah y so you so five years you're into this into this gig and you're into this into this gig and you're into this into this gig and you've learned a lot and um and you you've learned a lot and um and you you've learned a lot and um and you mentioned that you know the the church mentioned that you know the the church mentioned that you know the the church Communications Facebook group is where Communications Facebook group is where Communications Facebook group is where you really hone in what kind of advice you really hone in what kind of advice you really hone in what kind of advice do you give somebody who's uh who's new do you give somebody who's uh who's new do you give somebody who's uh who's new to the church World in terms of to the church World in terms of to the church World in terms of communications like communications like communications like what what would you drop on them what what would you drop on them what what would you drop on them I I I think so when I came in I I was gifted think so when I came in I I was gifted think so when I came in I I was gifted to be able to take the Reigns from to be able to take the Reigns from to be able to take the Reigns from everyone so as far as all of the everyone so as far as all of the everyone so as far as all of the Facebook pages all of the emails and I Facebook pages all of the emails and I Facebook pages all of the emails and I was able to kind of reconstruct those was able to kind of reconstruct those was able to kind of reconstruct those things to be one voice so I think kind things to be one voice so I think kind things to be one voice so I think kind of going back to what we were talking of going back to what we were talking of going back to what we were talking about like what are the most important

about like what are the most important about like what are the most important things things things what gets pushed on stage what gets what gets pushed on stage what gets what gets pushed on stage what gets pushed on the email what's get what gets pushed on the email what's get what gets pushed on the email what's get what gets pushed here I think in the same vein um pushed here I think in the same vein um pushed here I think in the same vein um I think it's it can be messy or I think it's it can be messy or I think it's it can be messy or confusing when there are so many voices confusing when there are so many voices confusing when there are so many voices coming out of your church um so many coming out of your church um so many coming out of your church um so many emails going to people whether it's emails going to people whether it's emails going to people whether it's because they volunteer or because they because they volunteer or because they because they volunteer or because they have a preschool or you know whatever um have a preschool or you know whatever um have a preschool or you know whatever um so I am really all about Clarity and so I am really all about Clarity and so I am really all about Clarity and reducing noise and I I think it's really reducing noise and I I think it's really reducing noise and I I think it's really normal that um churches can be really normal that um churches can be really normal that um churches can be really noisy I I'm using quotations again of noisy I I'm using quotations again of noisy I I'm using quotations again of just like there's a lot of information just like there's a lot of information just like there's a lot of information going out and yes people care about it going out and yes people care about it going out and yes people care about it and they want to know what your upcoming and they want to know what your upcoming and they want to know what your upcoming event is and they want to know about event is and they want to know about event is and they want to know about what's going on but how can you simplify what's going on but how can you simplify what's going on but how can you simplify that for somebody so for example I um I that for somebody so for example I um I that for somebody so for example I um I had always wanted to do this but I was had always wanted to do this but I was had always wanted to do this but I was kind of always just afraid of the work kind of always just afraid of the work kind of always just afraid of the work and so uh about two years ago we were and so uh about two years ago we were and so uh about two years ago we were sending four like mass emails a week one sending four like mass emails a week one sending four like mass emails a week one for kids like if you have a kid one if for kids like if you have a kid one if for kids like if you have a kid one if you have a student so a middle schooler you have a student so a middle schooler you have a student so a middle schooler or a high schooler um one for our 50 or a high schooler um one for our 50 or a high schooler um one for our 50 plus Ministry and then just one all Mass plus Ministry and then just one all Mass plus Ministry and then just one all Mass church email and I was overwhelmed by church email and I was overwhelmed by church email and I was overwhelmed by that and I thought it was too much that and I thought it was too much that and I thought it was too much because there's people who fall into because there's people who fall into because there's people who fall into multiple of those categories and I just multiple of those categories and I just multiple of those categories and I just didn't want them to get all those emails didn't want them to get all those emails didn't want them to get all those emails every week because I wanted them to like every week because I wanted them to like every week because I wanted them to like really pay attention to the really most really pay attention to the really most really pay attention to the really most important thing yeah so what I did we important thing yeah so what I did we important thing yeah so what I did we use Planning Center I know that's really use Planning Center I know that's really use Planning Center I know that's really popular with church is um and what I did

popular with church is um and what I did popular with church is um and what I did is I basically segmented and I made it a is I basically segmented and I made it a is I basically segmented and I made it a custom email it took a ton of work on custom email it took a ton of work on custom email it took a ton of work on the back end to get all of the data the back end to get all of the data the back end to get all of the data correct and obviously there you know correct and obviously there you know correct and obviously there you know there's still flaws in it but my goal so there's still flaws in it but my goal so there's still flaws in it but my goal so I now instead of sending four emails a I now instead of sending four emails a I now instead of sending four emails a week I send 13 emails a week but the week I send 13 emails a week but the week I send 13 emails a week but the user is only getting one email so I've user is only getting one email so I've user is only getting one email so I've got all the different formulas of if got all the different formulas of if got all the different formulas of if you've got a kid in a middle schooler you've got a kid in a middle schooler you've got a kid in a middle schooler you're getting this email if you've got you're getting this email if you've got you're getting this email if you've got a high schooler in a middle schooler you a high schooler in a middle schooler you a high schooler in a middle schooler you know whatever yeah yeah so that's just know whatever yeah yeah so that's just know whatever yeah yeah so that's just one example of one of the ways that I one example of one of the ways that I one example of one of the ways that I have I didn't simplify my job I made my have I didn't simplify my job I made my have I didn't simplify my job I made my job harder but I simplified it for the job harder but I simplified it for the job harder but I simplified it for the end user because I really you know as in end user because I really you know as in end user because I really you know as in Communications yes people need to know Communications yes people need to know Communications yes people need to know what's going on but I want it to be in what's going on but I want it to be in what's going on but I want it to be in the best way possible and in the the best way possible and in the the best way possible and in the simplest and cleanest way um so I think simplest and cleanest way um so I think simplest and cleanest way um so I think the work that you can do to make that the work that you can do to make that the work that you can do to make that happen for the end user is really happen for the end user is really happen for the end user is really important and will serve you and help important and will serve you and help important and will serve you and help people take their next steps and help people take their next steps and help people take their next steps and help them really know what's going on and them really know what's going on and them really know what's going on and what's most important for them that is what's most important for them that is what's most important for them that is valuable advice when you started talking valuable advice when you started talking valuable advice when you started talking I thought oh you're talking about you I thought oh you're talking about you I thought oh you're talking about you guys are a um a house of guys are a um a house of guys are a um a house of Brands instead of a branded Brands instead of a branded Brands instead of a branded house right a lot of churches do that house right a lot of churches do that house right a lot of churches do that they have all these voices and all these they have all these voices and all these they have all these voices and all these different brands going on and it's just different brands going on and it's just different brands going on and it's just like it drives me nuts yeah it's it's like it drives me nuts yeah it's it's like it drives me nuts yeah it's it's hard having a branded house where it's hard having a branded house where it's hard having a branded house where it's like one voice and it makes it easier like one voice and it makes it easier like one voice and it makes it easier for your people right I I get one email

for your people right I I get one email for your people right I I get one email a week I can I can glance down the a week I can I can glance down the a week I can I can glance down the things that that are relevant to me yeah things that that are relevant to me yeah things that that are relevant to me yeah well done on that because that you know well done on that because that you know well done on that because that you know if if you as a com director if you don't if if you as a com director if you don't if if you as a com director if you don't have that if you're not doing what Alex have that if you're not doing what Alex have that if you're not doing what Alex is is is doing pay attention like that would be a doing pay attention like that would be a doing pay attention like that would be a a phenomenal exercise to send out one a phenomenal exercise to send out one a phenomenal exercise to send out one email so everybody all ministers we email so everybody all ministers we email so everybody all ministers we talking we're collecting that so we one talking we're collecting that so we one talking we're collecting that so we one email to our users so they're not email to our users so they're not email to our users so they're not overwhelmed because imagine you know the overwhelmed because imagine you know the overwhelmed because imagine you know the mission mission mission in the care team and if you want that in the care team and if you want that in the care team and if you want that stuff now you've got like Bunches of stuff now you've got like Bunches of stuff now you've got like Bunches of emails coming at you becomes noise after emails coming at you becomes noise after emails coming at you becomes noise after about the third week right let alone two about the third week right let alone two about the third week right let alone two years in I'm like I I wouldn't even pay years in I'm like I I wouldn't even pay years in I'm like I I wouldn't even pay attention to it yeah exactly so that's attention to it yeah exactly so that's attention to it yeah exactly so that's why it was it was a ton of work for me why it was it was a ton of work for me why it was it was a ton of work for me but I think the payoff was well worth it but I think the payoff was well worth it but I think the payoff was well worth it yeah uh and so using plan Planning yeah uh and so using plan Planning yeah uh and so using plan Planning Center you were able to segment those Center you were able to segment those Center you were able to segment those those emails how did you how did you get those emails how did you how did you get those emails how did you how did you get the Ministries on board well um when I started 5 years ago well um when I started 5 years ago truthfully I don't think I was the one truthfully I don't think I was the one truthfully I don't think I was the one who fought for it because I was new and who fought for it because I was new and who fought for it because I was new and had no idea what I was doing so I think had no idea what I was doing so I think had no idea what I was doing so I think someone else above me fought for hey someone else above me fought for hey someone else above me fought for hey you're not allowed to send emails you're not allowed to send emails you're not allowed to send emails anymore and then it became my job and anymore and then it became my job and anymore and then it became my job and it's it's worked I I think when you're it's it's worked I I think when you're it's it's worked I I think when you're working with Ministries um and I love working with Ministries um and I love working with Ministries um and I love everyone I work with but obviously everyone I work with but obviously everyone I work with but obviously there's different personalities there's there's different personalities there's there's different personalities there's different feelings and emotions behind different feelings and emotions behind different feelings and emotions behind that and so um it's really just working that and so um it's really just working that and so um it's really just working with them not against them it's

with them not against them it's with them not against them it's understanding their heart for what understanding their heart for what understanding their heart for what they're trying to communicate what they they're trying to communicate what they they're trying to communicate what they want their people to know and meeting want their people to know and meeting want their people to know and meeting them in the middle yeah sometimes I send them in the middle yeah sometimes I send them in the middle yeah sometimes I send stuff that I don't really like but it's stuff that I don't really like but it's stuff that I don't really like but it's it's important to them and they see that it's important to them and they see that it's important to them and they see that as important and that's okay like we can as important and that's okay like we can as important and that's okay like we can we can compromise in that um but yeah we can compromise in that um but yeah we can compromise in that um but yeah and I think they at the end of the day and I think they at the end of the day and I think they at the end of the day they also want people to pay attention they also want people to pay attention they also want people to pay attention to what they're talking about and so and to what they're talking about and so and to what they're talking about and so and they want people to know what's going on they want people to know what's going on they want people to know what's going on and so one of you know whether it the and so one of you know whether it the and so one of you know whether it the compromise comes with well maybe that's compromise comes with well maybe that's compromise comes with well maybe that's not for the email let's just push that not for the email let's just push that not for the email let's just push that on social you know there's always those on social you know there's always those on social you know there's always those kind of conversations too of just you kind of conversations too of just you kind of conversations too of just you know know know redirecting yeah yeah yeah I well you redirecting yeah yeah yeah I well you redirecting yeah yeah yeah I well you know the thing that I I caught what you know the thing that I I caught what you know the thing that I I caught what you just said there was you're you you have just said there was you're you you have just said there was you're you you have to be the champion of it you may not be to be the champion of it you may not be to be the champion of it you may not be the inventor of it and that's okay I the inventor of it and that's okay I the inventor of it and that's okay I actually advocate for letting your actually advocate for letting your actually advocate for letting your leaders lead you might be leading up to leaders lead you might be leading up to leaders lead you might be leading up to say hey we need this or we need that or say hey we need this or we need that or say hey we need this or we need that or I just watched this podcast and I we've I just watched this podcast and I we've I just watched this podcast and I we've got to change the methods on how we're got to change the methods on how we're got to change the methods on how we're doing emails it isn't you being on an doing emails it isn't you being on an doing emails it isn't you being on an island trying to be the hero I wouldn't island trying to be the hero I wouldn't island trying to be the hero I wouldn't advise you to do that like you didn't do advise you to do that like you didn't do advise you to do that like you didn't do that and that's that's really really that and that's that's really really that and that's that's really really strong you you know somebody else a strong you you know somebody else a strong you you know somebody else a leader made that decision and you got to leader made that decision and you got to leader made that decision and you got to Champion it but making sure you're Champion it but making sure you're Champion it but making sure you're communicating that this would be really communicating that this would be really communicating that this would be really really solid for our church and help us really solid for our church and help us really solid for our church and help us get more cohesive in our messaging and get more cohesive in our messaging and get more cohesive in our messaging and and more branded to the person who's and more branded to the person who's and more branded to the person who's receiving that but but having that receiving that but but having that receiving that but but having that conversation with the ministry coming

so I think especially when you're taking so I think especially when you're taking away somebody's emails or things like away somebody's emails or things like away somebody's emails or things like that or you know not liking an idea that or you know not liking an idea that or you know not liking an idea somebody has I struggle with not just somebody has I struggle with not just somebody has I struggle with not just being uh pretty direct with people and being uh pretty direct with people and being uh pretty direct with people and so I think just meeting them with love I so I think just meeting them with love I so I think just meeting them with love I think it's important to ask the why I think it's important to ask the why I think it's important to ask the why I think that is something I have learned think that is something I have learned think that is something I have learned throughout the years where if somebody throughout the years where if somebody throughout the years where if somebody has an idea for something that I'm like has an idea for something that I'm like has an idea for something that I'm like not really not really not really getting understanding the heart of what getting understanding the heart of what getting understanding the heart of what they're trying to get across is has they're trying to get across is has they're trying to get across is has helped me so much and has made it pretty helped me so much and has made it pretty helped me so much and has made it pretty clear of whether or not something is a clear of whether or not something is a clear of whether or not something is a good or bad idea or at least then you good or bad idea or at least then you good or bad idea or at least then you can work together to get to the right can work together to get to the right can work together to get to the right result that you'll both be happy with um result that you'll both be happy with um result that you'll both be happy with um and so that's been really valuable for and so that's been really valuable for and so that's been really valuable for me especially with certain staff members me especially with certain staff members me especially with certain staff members and people in our church and so I think and people in our church and so I think and people in our church and so I think that's really important and also I think that's really important and also I think that's really important and also I think at the end of the day it's it's really at the end of the day it's it's really at the end of the day it's it's really easy to get caught up in man that was so easy to get caught up in man that was so easy to get caught up in man that was so much work or man I've got so much ahead much work or man I've got so much ahead much work or man I've got so much ahead of me um or sometimes I'm talking to of me um or sometimes I'm talking to of me um or sometimes I'm talking to other people on staff and they're having other people on staff and they're having other people on staff and they're having these really relational moments that I these really relational moments that I these really relational moments that I don't really get to have because of the don't really get to have because of the don't really get to have because of the way my role is I'm not necessarily way my role is I'm not necessarily way my role is I'm not necessarily meeting with a lot of people um or meeting with a lot of people um or meeting with a lot of people um or pastoring a lot of people um most of the pastoring a lot of people um most of the pastoring a lot of people um most of the time but when I get to hear from large time but when I get to hear from large time but when I get to hear from large like what my church is doing and the like what my church is doing and the like what my church is doing and the wins that people are having maybe I wins that people are having maybe I wins that people are having maybe I didn't have a direct um like I didn't didn't have a direct um like I didn't didn't have a direct um like I didn't help directly with that but to know that help directly with that but to know that help directly with that but to know that the work I'm doing isn't just for a the work I'm doing isn't just for a the work I'm doing isn't just for a social media post the work you're doing social media post the work you're doing social media post the work you're doing really does matter and at large your really does matter and at large your really does matter and at large your church is making a difference is really church is making a difference is really church is making a difference is really important to remember especially on the
