i'm kind of a second career guy i'm kind of a second career guy i spent about 18 years in the corporate i spent about 18 years in the corporate i spent about 18 years in the corporate world my background is engineering world my background is engineering world my background is engineering a lot of time in the automotive industry a lot of time in the automotive industry a lot of time in the automotive industry and it was really after we had kids we and it was really after we had kids we and it was really after we had kids we had a couple young toddlers that god had a couple young toddlers that god had a couple young toddlers that god really got hold of me really got hold of me really got hold of me and i felt a calling to go into and i felt a calling to go into and i felt a calling to go into full-time ministry really to help full-time ministry really to help full-time ministry really to help guys like me who are kind of marginal guys like me who are kind of marginal guys like me who are kind of marginal christians you know that christians you know that christians you know that you know i went to church and i was you know i went to church and i was you know i went to church and i was involved but i really wasn't sold out involved but i really wasn't sold out involved but i really wasn't sold out for jesus for jesus for jesus and and god got hold of my heart and and and and god got hold of my heart and and and and god got hold of my heart and and that led us down a path of going to that led us down a path of going to that led us down a path of going to seminary i left the corporate world and seminary i left the corporate world and seminary i left the corporate world and went to dallas seminary went to dallas seminary went to dallas seminary and had the opportunity to connect with and had the opportunity to connect with and had the opportunity to connect with lake point church lake point church lake point church and a guy named kurt bruner right when and a guy named kurt bruner right when and a guy named kurt bruner right when they were getting to launch they were getting to launch they were getting to launch beginning to launch a whole new family beginning to launch a whole new family beginning to launch a whole new family strategy strategy strategy what eventually became home point and so what eventually became home point and so what eventually became home point and so i got to jump in i got to jump in i got to jump in and and be a part of the the team there and and be a part of the the team there and and be a part of the the team there the staff that i got to help the staff that i got to help the staff that i got to help develop home point while i was in you develop home point while i was in you develop home point while i was in you know school in seminary know school in seminary know school in seminary uh and then as things you know often do uh and then as things you know often do uh and then as things you know often do it just continued to grow it just continued to grow it just continued to grow and i got the opportunity to uh move and i got the opportunity to uh move and i got the opportunity to uh move into working with homepoint part-time into working with homepoint part-time into working with homepoint part-time initially while i was a pastor at a initially while i was a pastor at a initially while i was a pastor at a couple different churches couple different churches couple different churches i moved out here to phoenix and and i moved out here to phoenix and and i moved out here to phoenix and and pastored pastored pastored a family discipleship pastor at a church a family discipleship pastor at a church a family discipleship pastor at a church here in phoenix here in phoenix here in phoenix and eventually home point moved to the and eventually home point moved to the and eventually home point moved to the point where it grew to the point where i point where it grew to the point where i point where it grew to the point where i got to got to got to shift to full time and and so now i'm shift to full time and and so now i'm shift to full time and and so now i'm i'm really spending i'm really spending i'm really spending you know most of my time uh nothing's you know most of my time uh nothing's you know most of my time uh nothing's really full time spending most of my really full time spending most of my really full time spending most of my time with time with time with with home point and continue to serve with home point and continue to serve with home point and continue to serve part-time part-time part-time as a discipleship pastor at a church as a discipleship pastor at a church as a discipleship pastor at a church here in paradise valley

here in paradise valley here in paradise valley uh here in the phoenix area so i get to uh here in the phoenix area so i get to uh here in the phoenix area so i get to wear a couple different hats i get to wear a couple different hats i get to wear a couple different hats i get to you know both help you know both help you know both help other churches think through this kind other churches think through this kind other churches think through this kind of stuff and i also get to you know be of stuff and i also get to you know be of stuff and i also get to you know be practicing it myself so okay practicing it myself so okay practicing it myself so okay good opportunity so okay so so home good opportunity so okay so so home good opportunity so okay so so home point point point was birthed from lake point church which was birthed from lake point church which was birthed from lake point church which is a big huge multi-campus church in is a big huge multi-campus church in is a big huge multi-campus church in the dallas fort worth area uh ex so the dallas fort worth area uh ex so the dallas fort worth area uh ex so explain to us explain to us explain to us what is home point yeah yeah what is home point yeah yeah what is home point yeah yeah you know it's interesting uh real quick you know it's interesting uh real quick you know it's interesting uh real quick don't worry i won't get too long-winded don't worry i won't get too long-winded don't worry i won't get too long-winded on this but uh real on this but uh real on this but uh real real quick uh home point really grew out real quick uh home point really grew out real quick uh home point really grew out of a movement of about of a movement of about of a movement of about 15 16 churches that were all across the 15 16 churches that were all across the 15 16 churches that were all across the country country country all different sizes and all trying to all different sizes and all trying to all different sizes and all trying to figure out figure out figure out how to go after helping families become how to go after helping families become how to go after helping families become more intentional more intentional more intentional okay and and so we partnered with those okay and and so we partnered with those okay and and so we partnered with those churches some of you churches some of you churches some of you you'll recognize guys like mark holman you'll recognize guys like mark holman you'll recognize guys like mark holman and brian haynes and brian haynes and brian haynes uh john trent a lot of the big names in uh john trent a lot of the big names in uh john trent a lot of the big names in the family world the family world the family world were a part of that and and went through were a part of that and and went through were a part of that and and went through a two-year process a two-year process a two-year process trying to figure out um hey what's the trying to figure out um hey what's the trying to figure out um hey what's the right way what's the right strategy right way what's the right strategy right way what's the right strategy and what's what's really interesting to and what's what's really interesting to and what's what's really interesting to me if you don't know lake point church me if you don't know lake point church me if you don't know lake point church you mentioned you mentioned you mentioned lake point church is one of the most lake point church is one of the most lake point church is one of the most strategic churches in the country strategic churches in the country strategic churches in the country and and what lake point did was after and and what lake point did was after and and what lake point did was after this two-year process of everybody this two-year process of everybody this two-year process of everybody trying things and sharing ideas trying things and sharing ideas trying things and sharing ideas lake said we're going to take all of lake said we're going to take all of lake said we're going to take all of this information we've gathered over two this information we've gathered over two this information we've gathered over two years years years we're going to boil it down to what are we're going to boil it down to what are we're going to boil it down to what are the keys to really going after the keys to really going after the keys to really going after helping families be more intentional and

helping families be more intentional and helping families be more intentional and then we're going to build a brand new then we're going to build a brand new then we're going to build a brand new ground up ground up ground up strategy family ministry strategy it strategy family ministry strategy it strategy family ministry strategy it became home point and so then okay what became home point and so then okay what became home point and so then okay what what were those keys really um it's what were those keys really um it's what were those keys really um it's really really simple it's really really simple it's really really simple it's how do we make it um uh really easy how do we make it um uh really easy how do we make it um uh really easy for families to be intentional we got to for families to be intentional we got to for families to be intentional we got to make it easy so they can they can be make it easy so they can they can be make it easy so they can they can be successful at it every time successful at it every time successful at it every time and then how do we make it more likely and then how do we make it more likely and then how do we make it more likely that they'll actually do it that they'll actually do it that they'll actually do it and and so it's really that those two and and so it's really that those two and and so it's really that those two simple pieces let's make it easy simple pieces let's make it easy simple pieces let's make it easy and let's make it more likely great what and let's make it more likely great what and let's make it more likely great what does that mean does that mean does that mean well to make it easy piece if you will well to make it easy piece if you will well to make it easy piece if you will is is is is let's let's pre-select the right is let's let's pre-select the right is let's let's pre-select the right tools the right the right resources the tools the right the right resources the tools the right the right resources the right right right uh ideas for families to go after and uh ideas for families to go after and uh ideas for families to go after and let's make them readily available let's make them readily available let's make them readily available um a lot of churches that we partner um a lot of churches that we partner um a lot of churches that we partner with have a physical resource center on with have a physical resource center on with have a physical resource center on their campus their campus their campus they have imprint resources that they have imprint resources that they have imprint resources that families can pick up of course with families can pick up of course with families can pick up of course with covid covid covid you know things shifted quickly and and you know things shifted quickly and and you know things shifted quickly and and so a lot of churches have shifted to so a lot of churches have shifted to so a lot of churches have shifted to having a digital having a digital having a digital uh resource center an online resource uh resource center an online resource uh resource center an online resource center we've created all kinds of center we've created all kinds of center we've created all kinds of digital digital digital online kind of tools as well but the online kind of tools as well but the online kind of tools as well but the whole idea is whole idea is whole idea is let's give them really simple easy tools let's give them really simple easy tools let's give them really simple easy tools let's make it easy for them to access let's make it easy for them to access let's make it easy for them to access it and then how do you make it more it and then how do you make it more it and then how do you make it more likely that they'll actually do it likely that they'll actually do it likely that they'll actually do it the biggest piece there is a couple the biggest piece there is a couple the biggest piece there is a couple times a year as a church you put some times a year as a church you put some times a year as a church you put some kind of call to action to it kind of call to action to it kind of call to action to it you you actually put some intentionality you you actually put some intentionality you you actually put some intentionality of calling your families to become more of calling your families to become more of calling your families to become more intentional and so intentional and so intentional and so we've created a whole series what we we've created a whole series what we we've created a whole series what we call campaigns they're really call campaigns they're really call campaigns they're really simple topics they're things like have simple topics they're things like have simple topics they're things like have meals together as a family meals together as a family meals together as a family let's put out a challenge to our

let's put out a challenge to our let's put out a challenge to our families actually have meals together families actually have meals together families actually have meals together and have some conversations about jesus and have some conversations about jesus and have some conversations about jesus around the dinner table around the dinner table around the dinner table and we'll give you the conversation and we'll give you the conversation and we'll give you the conversation starters we'll give you all the fun starters we'll give you all the fun starters we'll give you all the fun ideas creative ideas ideas creative ideas ideas creative ideas um to do that or hey let's put down our um to do that or hey let's put down our um to do that or hey let's put down our electronic devices electronic devices electronic devices and actually talk to each other face to and actually talk to each other face to and actually talk to each other face to face and so we've created a whole face and so we've created a whole face and so we've created a whole campaign around that campaign around that campaign around that where where we've given the families the where where we've given the families the where where we've given the families the tools to actually encourage them and tools to actually encourage them and tools to actually encourage them and equip them equip them equip them to do it and so the first part to make to do it and so the first part to make to do it and so the first part to make it more likely is a couple times a year it more likely is a couple times a year it more likely is a couple times a year do some kind of a call to action do some kind of a call to action do some kind of a call to action we create all the tools to help you do we create all the tools to help you do we create all the tools to help you do that and then the second part of make it that and then the second part of make it that and then the second part of make it more likely more likely more likely is what we call faith path and and faith is what we call faith path and and faith is what we call faith path and and faith path path path is 12 steps from when a child is born is 12 steps from when a child is born is 12 steps from when a child is born until they graduate high school until they graduate high school until they graduate high school and each step is either a a spiritual and each step is either a a spiritual and each step is either a a spiritual practice practice practice things like praying or spending time in things like praying or spending time in things like praying or spending time in god's word or serving or giving god's word or serving or giving god's word or serving or giving or it might be a milestone it might be or it might be a milestone it might be or it might be a milestone it might be things like things like things like uh a child you know baby dedication or a uh a child you know baby dedication or a uh a child you know baby dedication or a a child comes to faith in christ baptism a child comes to faith in christ baptism a child comes to faith in christ baptism you know first time in you know first time in you know first time in in big church or first communion kind of in big church or first communion kind of in big church or first communion kind of stuff stuff stuff and what we've done is we've like we've and what we've done is we've like we've and what we've done is we've like we've identified a identified a identified a a target age for each of those steps and a target age for each of those steps and a target age for each of those steps and then we've created a resource kit then we've created a resource kit then we've created a resource kit and and the idea with those is when the and and the idea with those is when the and and the idea with those is when the child reaches that age child reaches that age child reaches that age you as a church can can email that you as a church can can email that you as a church can can email that family text that family family text that family family text that family however you communicate with your folks however you communicate with your folks however you communicate with your folks and say hey we see johnny's turning and say hey we see johnny's turning and say hey we see johnny's turning three three three this is a great time to start the this is a great time to start the this is a great time to start the blessing stop by pick up your blessing blessing stop by pick up your blessing blessing stop by pick up your blessing kit or go to our website download your

circumstances circumstances and these are the challenges that and these are the challenges that and these are the challenges that families face things like families face things like families face things like uh you know financial difficulties in uh you know financial difficulties in uh you know financial difficulties in the home that's actually become a very the home that's actually become a very the home that's actually become a very um popular one over this last year if um popular one over this last year if um popular one over this last year if you will um you will um you will um things like addiction uh in the home uh things like addiction uh in the home uh things like addiction uh in the home uh i'm married to an unbelieving spouse and i'm married to an unbelieving spouse and i'm married to an unbelieving spouse and so so so those different challenges that families those different challenges that families those different challenges that families face we call it kind of the 80 20 rule face we call it kind of the 80 20 rule face we call it kind of the 80 20 rule you know we've identified sort of the 20 you know we've identified sort of the 20 you know we've identified sort of the 20 topics topics topics that cover 85 percent of the challenges that cover 85 percent of the challenges that cover 85 percent of the challenges that families face and so that families face and so that families face and so it's a very efficient strategy if you it's a very efficient strategy if you it's a very efficient strategy if you will will will and as a pastor and you know in a church and as a pastor and you know in a church and as a pastor and you know in a church what that does if you have what that does if you have what that does if you have those resources available in a resource those resources available in a resource those resources available in a resource center on your church website center on your church website center on your church website um most families can go and access that um most families can go and access that um most families can go and access that information and it's kind of a self-help information and it's kind of a self-help information and it's kind of a self-help opportunity for them it's also a great opportunity for them it's also a great opportunity for them it's also a great outreach tool outreach tool outreach tool because people in your community are because people in your community are because people in your community are facing those same challenges or dealing facing those same challenges or dealing facing those same challenges or dealing with those same issues with those same issues with those same issues and so it's a great opportunity for you and so it's a great opportunity for you and so it's a great opportunity for you as a church to leverage those as an as a church to leverage those as an as a church to leverage those as an outreach as part of your outreach or outreach as part of your outreach or outreach as part of your outreach or marketing strategy marketing strategy marketing strategy with folks in the community again it's with folks in the community again it's with folks in the community again it's going to land with the majority of your going to land with the majority of your going to land with the majority of your family family family and then as a pastor that frees you up and then as a pastor that frees you up and then as a pastor that frees you up um you know to spend time with the um you know to spend time with the um you know to spend time with the families maybe in a counseling session families maybe in a counseling session families maybe in a counseling session or those kinds of things or those kinds of things or those kinds of things that you really need to because you're that you really need to because you're that you really need to because you're not spending a lot of time not spending a lot of time not spending a lot of time answering the kind of questions that answering the kind of questions that answering the kind of questions that they could find answers to themselves they could find answers to themselves they could find answers to themselves you know working with these tools and you know working with these tools and you know working with these tools and resources resources resources yeah what is it it was not too long ago yeah what is it it was not too long ago yeah what is it it was not too long ago you guys pivoted you guys pivoted you guys pivoted to become more outward focused as well
