absolutely we are in universal city absolutely we are in universal city texas which is right outside san antonio texas which is right outside san antonio texas which is right outside san antonio uh northeast northeast side of san uh northeast northeast side of san uh northeast northeast side of san antonio um antonio um antonio um and we've been in existence for a little and we've been in existence for a little and we've been in existence for a little bit over 20 years bit over 20 years bit over 20 years um it's a there's probably about 1200 um it's a there's probably about 1200 um it's a there's probably about 1200 people that claim us people that claim us people that claim us and then pre-covet there was about 425 and then pre-covet there was about 425 and then pre-covet there was about 425 or so that would show up or so that would show up or so that would show up um across three uh services on a sunday um across three uh services on a sunday um across three uh services on a sunday morning and morning and morning and and um yeah so that's our that's pretty and um yeah so that's our that's pretty and um yeah so that's our that's pretty much who we are gotcha much who we are gotcha much who we are gotcha so i uh i got i heard that you guys have so i uh i got i heard that you guys have so i uh i got i heard that you guys have uh uh uh you created like a virtual men's and you created like a virtual men's and you created like a virtual men's and women's retreats women's retreats women's retreats we did this year kind of during this we did this year kind of during this we did this year kind of during this kobe thing because of kovitz so talk to kobe thing because of kovitz so talk to kobe thing because of kovitz so talk to us about what that looks like and how us about what that looks like and how us about what that looks like and how did that go and did that go and did that go and sure yeah so we had um sure yeah so we had um sure yeah so we had um i'm going to glance over here at a wall i'm going to glance over here at a wall i'm going to glance over here at a wall calendar so that i can make sure i get calendar so that i can make sure i get calendar so that i can make sure i get to to to get my dates uh squared away correctly get my dates uh squared away correctly get my dates uh squared away correctly but but we had a but but we had a but but we had a uh scheduled for the year we had a men's uh scheduled for the year we had a men's uh scheduled for the year we had a men's retreat a traditional men's retreat retreat a traditional men's retreat retreat a traditional men's retreat we're going to go somewhere and we're going to go somewhere and we're going to go somewhere and and uh and do what we you know typically and uh and do what we you know typically and uh and do what we you know typically do uh schedule up in may do uh schedule up in may do uh schedule up in may and obviously that was kind of the and obviously that was kind of the and obviously that was kind of the height of the um the height of the height of the um the height of the height of the um the height of the lockdown lockdown lockdown so uh we didn't want to we didn't want so uh we didn't want to we didn't want so uh we didn't want to we didn't want to com to com to com just ignore the fact that something just ignore the fact that something just ignore the fact that something needed to happen but we also wanted to needed to happen but we also wanted to needed to happen but we also wanted to respect you know where we were respect you know where we were respect you know where we were in the world at the time so so we came in the world at the time so so we came in the world at the time so so we came up with this idea up with this idea up with this idea um our executive pastor and i were um our executive pastor and i were um our executive pastor and i were chatting about it and we just sort of chatting about it and we just sort of chatting about it and we just sort of started bouncing ideas off of each other started bouncing ideas off of each other started bouncing ideas off of each other we so came up with the idea of a virtual we so came up with the idea of a virtual we so came up with the idea of a virtual retreat um and uh it was

retreat um and uh it was retreat um and uh it was uh it was awesome and what what guys uh it was awesome and what what guys uh it was awesome and what what guys love doing um love doing um love doing um more than anything is competing so we more than anything is competing so we more than anything is competing so we framed the whole thing around a framed the whole thing around a framed the whole thing around a competition competition competition and uh and so every day so it was over a and uh and so every day so it was over a and uh and so every day so it was over a it was over a two week it was over a two week it was over a two week uh span and we started off on a uh span and we started off on a uh span and we started off on a on a saturday and we met out at uh out on a saturday and we met out at uh out on a saturday and we met out at uh out of somebody's property so we could have of somebody's property so we could have of somebody's property so we could have a little bit of social distancing a little bit of social distancing a little bit of social distancing but explain everything and and get all but explain everything and and get all but explain everything and and get all of the guys broken down of the guys broken down of the guys broken down into uh into their teams and we had into uh into their teams and we had into uh into their teams and we had about 45 guys that signed up to about 45 guys that signed up to about 45 guys that signed up to participate which is pretty good participate which is pretty good participate which is pretty good a pretty good number um and so amongst a pretty good number um and so amongst a pretty good number um and so amongst the teams there was assignments the teams there was assignments the teams there was assignments that every man had to do every single that every man had to do every single that every man had to do every single day and so there was day and so there was day and so there was there was a a bible study that we all there was a a bible study that we all there was a a bible study that we all went through went through went through it was the the study we did was the it was the the study we did was the it was the the study we did was the seven challenges seven challenges seven challenges uh men encounter by vince miller um so uh men encounter by vince miller um so uh men encounter by vince miller um so every day they had to do that we use every day they had to do that we use every day they had to do that we use right now media platform so they can log right now media platform so they can log right now media platform so they can log in and just watch the videos and in and just watch the videos and in and just watch the videos and have the workbook all printed out for have the workbook all printed out for have the workbook all printed out for them um with the them um with the them um with the along with the the spiritual development along with the the spiritual development along with the the spiritual development we wanted to do physical development as we wanted to do physical development as we wanted to do physical development as well well well because what you know everybody's because what you know everybody's because what you know everybody's everybody picked up the cove at 15 everybody picked up the cove at 15 everybody picked up the cove at 15 and uh and so we've all packed on some and uh and so we've all packed on some and uh and so we've all packed on some pounds that we didn't have pounds that we didn't have pounds that we didn't have at the beginning of the year so uh so at the beginning of the year so uh so at the beginning of the year so uh so there was a daily there was a daily there was a daily exercise uh regiment that guys had to uh exercise uh regiment that guys had to uh exercise uh regiment that guys had to uh pick and we had a pick and we had a pick and we had a uh we had a a uh we had an old man's uh we had a a uh we had an old man's uh we had a a uh we had an old man's track and we had a young man's track track and we had a young man's track track and we had a young man's track and uh just keeping challenging for and uh just keeping challenging for and uh just keeping challenging for everybody and so they had the daily everybody and so they had the daily everybody and so they had the daily exercise the daily

exercise the daily exercise the daily bible study and then there was also bible study and then there was also bible study and then there was also something that was more something that was more something that was more for them to receive that they would do for them to receive that they would do for them to receive that they would do were assigned to do every day and so were assigned to do every day and so were assigned to do every day and so i'm not sure if you're familiar with the i'm not sure if you're familiar with the i'm not sure if you're familiar with the uh one minute pause app uh one minute pause app uh one minute pause app that uh john eldridge and the wild of that uh john eldridge and the wild of that uh john eldridge and the wild of heart ministry heart ministry heart ministry um has put together but but that app um has put together but but that app um has put together but but that app yeah we had all the guys downloaded and yeah we had all the guys downloaded and yeah we had all the guys downloaded and it prompts you it prompts you it prompts you um like at 11 30 in the morning and and um like at 11 30 in the morning and and um like at 11 30 in the morning and and about 3 30 in the afternoon to stop about 3 30 in the afternoon to stop about 3 30 in the afternoon to stop whatever you're doing and there's a whatever you're doing and there's a whatever you're doing and there's a little devotional you listen to and it little devotional you listen to and it little devotional you listen to and it just just just re-centers and reorients uh your heart re-centers and reorients uh your heart re-centers and reorients uh your heart toward god with toward god with toward god with whatever is going on um and so with the whatever is going on um and so with the whatever is going on um and so with the uh with their daily activity there was a uh with their daily activity there was a uh with their daily activity there was a on on part of our website we had our on on part of our website we had our on on part of our website we had our event page event page event page but they each guy was to log in uh but they each guy was to log in uh but they each guy was to log in uh to the page and then and then fill out a to the page and then and then fill out a to the page and then and then fill out a form and let us know what they had done form and let us know what they had done form and let us know what they had done every single day every single day every single day and so then points were tallied and then and so then points were tallied and then and so then points were tallied and then we kept the kept the log and kept score we kept the kept the log and kept score we kept the kept the log and kept score of everything of everything of everything and uh and and and had a winner at the and uh and and and had a winner at the and uh and and and had a winner at the end of it end of it end of it and it was uh it was fantastic that and it was uh it was fantastic that and it was uh it was fantastic that so wow that's that's i i love the so wow that's that's i i love the so wow that's that's i i love the creativity there creativity there creativity there you know you're you're thinking outside you know you're you're thinking outside you know you're you're thinking outside the box and keeping guys engaged and the box and keeping guys engaged and the box and keeping guys engaged and right that's the that's the goal right that's the that's the goal right that's the that's the goal is right keep them engaged and keep them is right keep them engaged and keep them is right keep them engaged and keep them moving and keep them moving and keep them moving and keep them discipling you know men um discipling you know men um discipling you know men um what was the response from the guys that what was the response from the guys that what was the response from the guys that went through this went through this went through this sure the um so we had halfway through sure the um so we had halfway through sure the um so we had halfway through the event we had a you know a scheduled the event we had a you know a scheduled the event we had a you know a scheduled like large group session so it was a

like large group session so it was a like large group session so it was a zoom uh we zoom uh we zoom uh we we brought a speaker in and had him have we brought a speaker in and had him have we brought a speaker in and had him have him give a message to us which was great him give a message to us which was great him give a message to us which was great and then and then and then and we gathered together again at the and we gathered together again at the and we gathered together again at the end of it physically we gathered end of it physically we gathered end of it physically we gathered together together together um as uh as best we could and and um um as uh as best we could and and um um as uh as best we could and and um and had some had some guys facetiming and had some had some guys facetiming and had some had some guys facetiming their their other teammates if they their their other teammates if they their their other teammates if they weren't able to make it weren't able to make it weren't able to make it but the response um was uh but the response um was uh but the response um was uh it was shocking how successful it was um it was shocking how successful it was um it was shocking how successful it was um it it was because because in some ways it it was because because in some ways it it was because because in some ways you know you you throw spaghetti against you know you you throw spaghetti against you know you you throw spaghetti against the wall and hopefully something sticks the wall and hopefully something sticks the wall and hopefully something sticks and yeah and yeah and yeah and and this was i mean like all of it and and this was i mean like all of it and and this was i mean like all of it stuck stuck stuck and so it we we didn't as a as a and so it we we didn't as a as a and so it we we didn't as a as a pastoral team as as a leadership team pastoral team as as a leadership team pastoral team as as a leadership team i mean we knew that we were doing back i mean we knew that we were doing back i mean we knew that we were doing back then we were doing everything we could then we were doing everything we could then we were doing everything we could to do you know daily devotionals online to do you know daily devotionals online to do you know daily devotionals online and do videos and live stream all this and do videos and live stream all this and do videos and live stream all this stuff just to stuff just to stuff just to keep people reconnected um but what we keep people reconnected um but what we keep people reconnected um but what we found with the men especially found with the men especially found with the men especially was um there's you know when when we're was um there's you know when when we're was um there's you know when when we're uh out of our regular routine of of uh out of our regular routine of of uh out of our regular routine of of going to work going to work going to work and and and getting the kids off to and and and getting the kids off to and and and getting the kids off to school and everything was just school and everything was just school and everything was just was just thrown out the window a lot of was just thrown out the window a lot of was just thrown out the window a lot of guys are kind of spinning their wheels guys are kind of spinning their wheels guys are kind of spinning their wheels on how do i continue to lead properly on how do i continue to lead properly on how do i continue to lead properly what am i supposed to lead what am i supposed to lead what am i supposed to lead um how do i how do i keep my keep my my um how do i how do i keep my keep my my um how do i how do i keep my keep my my mind focused on mind focused on mind focused on what god has called me to do but but what god has called me to do but but what god has called me to do but but then also be engaged with a then also be engaged with a then also be engaged with a with a church family that that he's with a church family that that he's with a church family that that he's placed us in so so placed us in so so placed us in so so we had some guys that this was the first we had some guys that this was the first we had some guys that this was the first time they had ever even time they had ever even time they had ever even done a men's retreat um and they you done a men's retreat um and they you done a men's retreat um and they you know they were

know they were know they were deeply impacted but but um yeah the deeply impacted but but um yeah the deeply impacted but but um yeah the steady was great steady was great steady was great the physical activity was fun every guy the physical activity was fun every guy the physical activity was fun every guy wants to go fight and win something wants to go fight and win something wants to go fight and win something but uh i think the biggest surprise for but uh i think the biggest surprise for but uh i think the biggest surprise for us was how effective the app us was how effective the app us was how effective the app was not that we're not a sponsor for the was not that we're not a sponsor for the was not that we're not a sponsor for the app app app for any means but uh i highly recommend for any means but uh i highly recommend for any means but uh i highly recommend it but that was the it but that was the it but that was the uh that was the biggest surprise and uh that was the biggest surprise and uh that was the biggest surprise and kind of guys guys called it a game kind of guys guys called it a game kind of guys guys called it a game changer changer changer across the board a lot of guys said this across the board a lot of guys said this across the board a lot of guys said this using this app using this app using this app in my daily routine in my life has been in my daily routine in my life has been in my daily routine in my life has been a game changer a game changer a game changer um and i get those i still have those um and i get those i still have those um and i get those i still have those conversations with with the guys even conversations with with the guys even conversations with with the guys even even months later wow so are you guys even months later wow so are you guys even months later wow so are you guys going to do this again or what's the going to do this again or what's the going to do this again or what's the plans for plans for plans for keeping them going yeah we are so uh so keeping them going yeah we are so uh so keeping them going yeah we are so uh so we're actually we're we're actually we're we're actually we're right now in the middle of mapping out right now in the middle of mapping out right now in the middle of mapping out what 2021 what 2021 what 2021 hopefully will look like we'll see how hopefully will look like we'll see how hopefully will look like we'll see how it plays out but um it plays out but um it plays out but um but what we what our plan uh moving but what we what our plan uh moving but what we what our plan uh moving forward forward forward is going to do is going to be is that is going to do is going to be is that is going to do is going to be is that we'll have we'll have we'll have a a virtual uh men's retreat a a virtual uh men's retreat a a virtual uh men's retreat the month before we have an in-person the month before we have an in-person the month before we have an in-person physical physical physical men's retreat and use it as a way to get men's retreat and use it as a way to get men's retreat and use it as a way to get guys uh guys uh guys uh excited about things uh connect guys excited about things uh connect guys excited about things uh connect guys that may be a little bit more on the that may be a little bit more on the that may be a little bit more on the fringe fringe fringe and and just start working them through and and just start working them through and and just start working them through the the steps to be more integrated into the the steps to be more integrated into the the steps to be more integrated into really into the discipleship process really into the discipleship process really into the discipleship process that we want we hope everybody that that we want we hope everybody that that we want we hope everybody that comes to church here comes to church here comes to church here uh would step into yeah i love that i uh would step into yeah i love that i uh would step into yeah i love that i love that you guys are doing that

love that you guys are doing that love that you guys are doing that and in the in your women's ministry is and in the in your women's ministry is and in the in your women's ministry is doing the same thing we are yeah so doing the same thing we are yeah so doing the same thing we are yeah so so they saw how much fun we have and so they saw how much fun we have and so they saw how much fun we have and then uh and then a handful of them said then uh and then a handful of them said then uh and then a handful of them said how come how come the boys get to how come how come the boys get to how come how come the boys get to have all the fun uh why can't we do have all the fun uh why can't we do have all the fun uh why can't we do anything fun anything fun anything fun for the girls they said well why don't for the girls they said well why don't for the girls they said well why don't we just do the same thing so um we just do the same thing so um we just do the same thing so um so we had so the men's the men's uh so we had so the men's the men's uh so we had so the men's the men's uh theme was heart of warrior theme was heart of warrior theme was heart of warrior and then so our women's retreat was and then so our women's retreat was and then so our women's retreat was heart of a princess warrior heart of a princess warrior heart of a princess warrior and um and then they had a they did a and um and then they had a they did a and um and then they had a they did a study on the armor of god and their study on the armor of god and their study on the armor of god and their identity in christ identity in christ identity in christ and um and that was that was using the and um and that was that was using the and um and that was that was using the same same same exact same format exact same teams same exact same format exact same teams same exact same format exact same teams same competition competition competition um and it was uh i got to sit in the um and it was uh i got to sit in the um and it was uh i got to sit in the back of the room during the closing back of the room during the closing back of the room during the closing ceremony when they all came back ceremony when they all came back ceremony when they all came back together and they were together and they were together and they were in the auditorium and just sharing one in the auditorium and just sharing one in the auditorium and just sharing one person after the other person after the other person after the other um just how how they um just how how they um just how how they didn't so many of them shared how they didn't so many of them shared how they didn't so many of them shared how they didn't realize didn't realize didn't realize how how disconnected they had how how how disconnected they had how how how disconnected they had how disconnected she had become disconnected she had become disconnected she had become until she started reconnecting again you until she started reconnecting again you until she started reconnecting again you know you don't know how thirsty you are know you don't know how thirsty you are know you don't know how thirsty you are until uh you might you might know how until uh you might you might know how until uh you might you might know how thirst you are but you don't you don't thirst you are but you don't you don't thirst you are but you don't you don't know how good water is for you until you know how good water is for you until you know how good water is for you until you start drinking it again start drinking it again start drinking it again and um and and it was it was incredible and um and and it was it was incredible and um and and it was it was incredible i mean it was uh really i mean it was uh really i mean it was uh really uh grateful to to have you know that uh grateful to to have you know that uh grateful to to have you know that the chance to to pull those two things the chance to to pull those two things the chance to to pull those two things together together together um but they were i don't know how they um but they were i don't know how they um but they were i don't know how they could have gone any better not because could have gone any better not because could have gone any better not because of our of our of our our creativity or genius or anything but our creativity or genius or anything but our creativity or genius or anything but god really just just led god really just just led god really just just led us to um to to have these have these

us to um to to have these have these us to um to to have these have these events for the ladies so that it events for the ladies so that it events for the ladies so that it it really that it just met a need that it really that it just met a need that it really that it just met a need that none of us none of us none of us fully understood was there until we fully understood was there until we fully understood was there until we stepped into this stepped into this stepped into this well a couple points to that i think well a couple points to that i think well a couple points to that i think that are really relevant number one you that are really relevant number one you that are really relevant number one you guys are guys are guys are embracing what this new reality is and embracing what this new reality is and embracing what this new reality is and you're you're you're not just going oh man we can't do not just going oh man we can't do not just going oh man we can't do ministry instead you're saying ministry instead you're saying ministry instead you're saying how can we do ministry better how can we how can we do ministry better how can we how can we do ministry better how can we do it different do it different do it different and related to what guys are dealing and related to what guys are dealing and related to what guys are dealing with or what women are dealing with with or what women are dealing with with or what women are dealing with and actually creating something that's and actually creating something that's and actually creating something that's that's unique and fun that's unique and fun that's unique and fun so well done on that one second thing is so well done on that one second thing is so well done on that one second thing is i i i i think i see a future men versus women i think i see a future men versus women i think i see a future men versus women competition with this i'm thinking that competition with this i'm thinking that competition with this i'm thinking that could be something pretty cool too could be something pretty cool too could be something pretty cool too well if we do that so this is the other well if we do that so this is the other well if we do that so this is the other surprising thing surprising thing surprising thing the the ladies that participated in this the the ladies that participated in this the the ladies that participated in this retreat were off the chart retreat were off the chart retreat were off the chart way more competitive than the guys way more competitive than the guys way more competitive than the guys actually were i mean actually were i mean actually were i mean so yeah some of them were just like i so yeah some of them were just like i so yeah some of them were just like i mean because you know they're logging mean because you know they're logging mean because you know they're logging their scores in their daily activity their scores in their daily activity their scores in their daily activity and we're sitting here looking at these and we're sitting here looking at these and we're sitting here looking at these these reports that are getting emailed these reports that are getting emailed these reports that are getting emailed in like oh my gosh in like oh my gosh in like oh my gosh this this let you know this this moment this this let you know this this moment this this let you know this this moment is is you know it's logging miles and is is you know it's logging miles and is is you know it's logging miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and and you know and running and just doing and you know and running and just doing and you know and running and just doing all of these things and so all of these things and so all of these things and so uh that's a great idea but i don't want uh that's a great idea but i don't want uh that's a great idea but i don't want to lose so yeah yeah to lose so yeah yeah to lose so yeah yeah but i also think it's a cool outreach but i also think it's a cool outreach but i also think it's a cool outreach like you could you know next time around like you could you know next time around like you could you know next time around hey why not bring a friend it's such an hey why not bring a friend it's such an hey why not bring a friend it's such an easy entry point easy entry point easy entry point yeah to church right to hey come in be a yeah to church right to hey come in be a yeah to church right to hey come in be a part of this cool competition we have
