past 17 years and my desire ultimately past 17 years and my desire ultimately is to do that as to how do i create is to do that as to how do i create is to do that as to how do i create experiences that bring people who are experiences that bring people who are experiences that bring people who are far from god closer to him and then far from god closer to him and then far from god closer to him and then ultimately how do they then after they ultimately how do they then after they ultimately how do they then after they have crossed the line how do they bring have crossed the line how do they bring have crossed the line how do they bring people into this experience as well and people into this experience as well and people into this experience as well and introduce their friends and family and introduce their friends and family and introduce their friends and family and how do we ultimately share the good news how do we ultimately share the good news how do we ultimately share the good news in the gospel so that's a that's a quick in the gospel so that's a that's a quick in the gospel so that's a that's a quick synopsis um i was uh in jersey for the synopsis um i was uh in jersey for the synopsis um i was uh in jersey for the first 14 years of my ministry working first 14 years of my ministry working first 14 years of my ministry working for some churches there and then the for some churches there and then the for some churches there and then the past three years i have been in miami past three years i have been in miami past three years i have been in miami working at christ fellowship miami um working at christ fellowship miami um working at christ fellowship miami um and then just recently as in two months and then just recently as in two months and then just recently as in two months ago bouncing back up to new jersey my ago bouncing back up to new jersey my ago bouncing back up to new jersey my wife and i felt called to be close to wife and i felt called to be close to wife and i felt called to be close to family and friends in this area and we family and friends in this area and we family and friends in this area and we looked for a great church to partner looked for a great church to partner looked for a great church to partner with to accomplish that and so i'm now with to accomplish that and so i'm now with to accomplish that and so i'm now the executive pastor at tlcc the life the executive pastor at tlcc the life the executive pastor at tlcc the life christian church in west orange new christian church in west orange new christian church in west orange new jersey so that's a quick snapshot of of jersey so that's a quick snapshot of of jersey so that's a quick snapshot of of where i've come from and and how god's where i've come from and and how god's where i've come from and and how god's used some of that background of my own used some of that background of my own used some of that background of my own in terms of marketing um his gospel and in terms of marketing um his gospel and in terms of marketing um his gospel and the lack of a better term to connect the lack of a better term to connect the lack of a better term to connect more people to him more people to him more people to him i've a question for you i've a question for you i've a question for you when you started in jersey or at some when you started in jersey or at some when you started in jersey or at some point in jersey were you were you point in jersey were you were you point in jersey were you were you serving on staff at liquid church serving on staff at liquid church serving on staff at liquid church yes i was a creative arts pastor there yes i was a creative arts pastor there yes i was a creative arts pastor there for about four years okay i just i did for about four years okay i just i did for about four years okay i just i did okay i'm connecting some dots here uh okay i'm connecting some dots here uh okay i'm connecting some dots here uh were you at liquid church when liquid were you at liquid church when liquid were you at liquid church when liquid church did a series called home run church did a series called home run church did a series called home run faith faith faith yes is it yes is it yes is it okay so okay so okay so i'm a big baseball fan and i remember

recording was you know you've you've recording was you know you've you've done christmas and easter what'd you say done christmas and easter what'd you say done christmas and easter what'd you say 17 17 times as a going into my 18th year 17 17 times as a going into my 18th year 17 17 times as a going into my 18th year at this point yeah 18 years and those of at this point yeah 18 years and those of at this point yeah 18 years and those of us who have been in ministry we can us who have been in ministry we can us who have been in ministry we can relate to that christmas and easter uh relate to that christmas and easter uh relate to that christmas and easter uh come every year uh as you you know kind come every year uh as you you know kind come every year uh as you you know kind of transitioned from uh television of transitioned from uh television of transitioned from uh television production and into the church space and production and into the church space and production and into the church space and began to kind of cross-pollinate using began to kind of cross-pollinate using began to kind of cross-pollinate using your gifts and your talents and your your gifts and your talents and your your gifts and your talents and your experiences um from the broadcast world experiences um from the broadcast world experiences um from the broadcast world into the church world you know and as into the church world you know and as into the church world you know and as you've developed your own skill set in you've developed your own skill set in you've developed your own skill set in terms of church leadership what are the terms of church leadership what are the terms of church leadership what are the some of the things that that you've some of the things that that you've some of the things that that you've learned that have helped you plan great learned that have helped you plan great learned that have helped you plan great christmas and easter experiences christmas and easter experiences christmas and easter experiences great question great question great question for me and this isn't just and i'm going for me and this isn't just and i'm going for me and this isn't just and i'm going to go back into my toolbox in terms of to go back into my toolbox in terms of to go back into my toolbox in terms of thinking about big shows and coming from thinking about big shows and coming from thinking about big shows and coming from a television perspective a time there's a television perspective a time there's a television perspective a time there's the old adage you know do you want a the old adage you know do you want a the old adage you know do you want a quick quick quick cheap um or good you know you can pick cheap um or good you know you can pick cheap um or good you know you can pick two and oftentimes churches will skimp two and oftentimes churches will skimp two and oftentimes churches will skimp on the on the on the they they want to fast so you know um they they want to fast so you know um they they want to fast so you know um give it to me as quickly as possible give it to me as quickly as possible give it to me as quickly as possible yeah and so when it comes to yeah and so when it comes to yeah and so when it comes to christmas and easter a lot of churches christmas and easter a lot of churches christmas and easter a lot of churches do decent with planning christmas do decent with planning christmas do decent with planning christmas because they'll plan it and you know hey because they'll plan it and you know hey because they'll plan it and you know hey we got christmas in july we got six we got christmas in july we got six we got christmas in july we got six months lead in if there's a down season months lead in if there's a down season months lead in if there's a down season we can spend some time thinking about we can spend some time thinking about we can spend some time thinking about that most churches do that well if that most churches do that well if that most churches do that well if you're not i encourage you towards it you're not i encourage you towards it you're not i encourage you towards it because if you because if you because if you if you don't plan it in the summer if you don't plan it in the summer if you don't plan it in the summer the fall hits and then things are just the fall hits and then things are just the fall hits and then things are just crazy from there on out the problem is crazy from there on out the problem is crazy from there on out the problem is uh because of how the calendar hits you uh because of how the calendar hits you uh because of how the calendar hits you can give about a six month lead into to can give about a six month lead into to can give about a six month lead into to christmas but even the fact that we're

christmas but even the fact that we're christmas but even the fact that we're talking about this now i got a feeling talking about this now i got a feeling talking about this now i got a feeling and guilty as charged that a lot of and guilty as charged that a lot of and guilty as charged that a lot of churches have not spoken about easter at churches have not spoken about easter at churches have not spoken about easter at all yet and so then you usually have a all yet and so then you usually have a all yet and so then you usually have a three month or two month kind of three month or two month kind of three month or two month kind of depending on when it lands on the depending on when it lands on the depending on when it lands on the calendar run going into easter and calendar run going into easter and calendar run going into easter and you're also coming on you're also coming on you're also coming on the heels running on fumes from the heels running on fumes from the heels running on fumes from christmas and you're going into the new christmas and you're going into the new christmas and you're going into the new year so um that's probably the biggest year so um that's probably the biggest year so um that's probably the biggest thing it's just try to give yourself as thing it's just try to give yourself as thing it's just try to give yourself as much planning and try to get that easter much planning and try to get that easter much planning and try to get that easter planning in around thanksgiving getting planning in around thanksgiving getting planning in around thanksgiving getting it started then it started then it started then and then i i found working with a lot of and then i i found working with a lot of and then i i found working with a lot of lead pastors is they're going to come lead pastors is they're going to come lead pastors is they're going to come out they're going to approach easter and out they're going to approach easter and out they're going to approach easter and christmas based upon how they're wired christmas based upon how they're wired christmas based upon how they're wired either in two different ways they're either in two different ways they're either in two different ways they're either going to approach it with they either going to approach it with they either going to approach it with they got strong direction this is what i want got strong direction this is what i want got strong direction this is what i want us to do us to do us to do or they don't know what they want and or they don't know what they want and or they don't know what they want and they're going to pass that they're going to pass that they're going to pass that responsibility off to their creative responsibility off to their creative responsibility off to their creative director their their arts programmer director their their arts programmer director their their arts programmer whatever the title is and they're gonna whatever the title is and they're gonna whatever the title is and they're gonna say you you pitch me one or two ideas say you you pitch me one or two ideas say you you pitch me one or two ideas and i'm gonna give you feedback the and i'm gonna give you feedback the and i'm gonna give you feedback the biggest tension what i've seen with biggest tension what i've seen with biggest tension what i've seen with churches is when they don't have that churches is when they don't have that churches is when they don't have that clarity with how the lead pastor is clarity with how the lead pastor is clarity with some guy named paul in some story and he some guy named paul in some story and he didn't really know and i kind of looked didn't really know and i kind of looked didn't really know and i kind of looked into it and i was like well they were in into it and i was like well they were in into it and i was like well they were in a teaching series and they didn't break a teaching series and they didn't break a teaching series and they didn't break the teaching series the teaching series the teaching series for easter sunday they actually just for easter sunday they actually just for easter sunday they actually just continued on in whatever epistle they continued on in whatever epistle they continued on in whatever epistle they were working through and i thought that were working through and i thought that were working through and i thought that was a that was an eye-opening moment for was a that was an eye-opening moment for was a that was an eye-opening moment for me because i thought you know i too like me because i thought you know i too like me because i thought you know i too like to push the envelope of creativity and to push the envelope of creativity and to push the envelope of creativity and do things that are sort of out of the do things that are sort of out of the do things that are sort of out of the box but i realize that when it comes to box but i realize that when it comes to box but i realize that when it comes to christmas and easter there is sort of a christmas and easter there is sort of a christmas and easter there is sort of a baseline expectation that people have baseline expectation that people have baseline expectation that people have that when they show up to church that that when they show up to church that that when they show up to church that they're going to get a christmas message they're going to get a christmas message they're going to get a christmas message at easter or christmas message at at easter or christmas message at at easter or christmas message at christmas and an easter message at christmas and an easter message at christmas and an easter message at christmas don't get those two mixed up christmas don't get those two mixed up christmas don't get those two mixed up don't do eat from christmas christmas on don't do eat from christmas christmas on don't do eat from christmas christmas on easter but uh yeah that was that was uh easter but uh yeah that was that was uh easter but uh yeah that was that was uh one of the lessons that i learned just one of the lessons that i learned just one of the lessons that i learned just from having a conversation with a from having a conversation with a from having a conversation with a neighbor that wasn't really interested neighbor that wasn't really interested neighbor that wasn't really interested in church but for some reason he decided in church but for some reason he decided in church but for some reason he decided to go on easter hoping to hear the to go on easter hoping to hear the to go on easter hoping to hear the easter story and he didn't get the easter story and he didn't get the easter story and he didn't get the easter story so that was that was a easter story so that was that was a easter story so that was that was a lesson learned lesson learned lesson learned so hey ben ben what are some of the so hey ben ben what are some of the so hey ben ben what are some of the experiences that have gone really really experiences that have gone really really experiences that have gone really really well um that that come to mind well um that that come to mind well um that that come to mind there are there it used to be it's funny there are there it used to be it's funny there are there it used to be it's funny a lot of the experiences i used to view a lot of the experiences i used to view a lot of the experiences i used to view it through the it through the it through the what's the success and what's a win and what's the success and what's a win and what's the success and what's a win and how do we what's that check mark and did how do we what's that check mark and did how do we what's that check mark and did we accomplish what we wanted i usually we accomplish what we wanted i usually we accomplish what we wanted i usually um evaluated that through the um evaluated that through the um evaluated that through the destination the lens of the destination destination the lens of the destination destination the lens of the destination did we get to where we wanted so in did we get to where we wanted so in did we get to where we wanted so in other words did we have some great other words did we have some great other words did we have some great experience did we experience did we experience did we we did environmental i remember we did environmental i remember we did environmental i remember you know maybe 10 years ago you know maybe 10 years ago you know maybe 10 years ago environmental projection it was big for

environmental projection it was big for environmental projection it was big for me my church at the time and we felt me my church at the time and we felt me my church at the time and we felt great we did this wow moment for people great we did this wow moment for people great we did this wow moment for people i've done the interior snow you know hey i've done the interior snow you know hey i've done the interior snow you know hey like during the like during the like during the last chorus and the snow's coming down last chorus and the snow's coming down last chorus and the snow's coming down like man that's that that's a wow and like man that's that that's a wow and like man that's that that's a wow and there's there's experiences on the there's there's experiences on the there's there's experiences on the destination side that i thought that was destination side that i thought that was destination side that i thought that was well also from like the destination like well also from like the destination like well also from like the destination like the marketing uh i've done like cool the marketing uh i've done like cool the marketing uh i've done like cool ideas like hey if we were able to ideas like hey if we were able to ideas like hey if we were able to there's this new thing called uber and there's this new thing called uber and there's this new thing called uber and if what happens if we were to like if if what happens if we were to like if if what happens if we were to like if people can't come when we gift them a people can't come when we gift them a people can't come when we gift them a free voucher to our destinations we free voucher to our destinations we free voucher to our destinations we figure out with uber like they're not figure out with uber like they're not figure out with uber like they're not just grabbing a ride to the mall but just grabbing a ride to the mall but just grabbing a ride to the mall but it's it's only to one of our it's it's only to one of our it's it's only to one of our destinations we figured out some of destinations we figured out some of destinations we figured out some of those fun things as well those fun things as well those fun things as well but over time i've but over time i've but over time i've it's been less destination for me and it's been less destination for me and it's been less destination for me and it's been more journey and what i mean it's been more journey and what i mean it's been more journey and what i mean by that is the process leading up to it by that is the process leading up to it by that is the process leading up to it i i've been a part of churches i i've been a part of churches i i've been a part of churches as a staff member and as a volunteer as a staff member and as a volunteer as a staff member and as a volunteer where everyone dreaded christmas where everyone dreaded christmas where everyone dreaded christmas everyone dreaded easter and because the everyone dreaded easter and because the everyone dreaded easter and because the the planning was so poor and last minute the planning was so poor and last minute the planning was so poor and last minute and that the teamwork was was not good and that the teamwork was was not good and that the teamwork was was not good there was a lack of vision or the there was a lack of vision or the there was a lack of vision or the expectations expectations expectations the the expectations in reality in terms the the expectations in reality in terms the the expectations in reality in terms of what your budget was and what we're of what your budget was and what we're of what your budget was and what we're trying to do is just so off and everyone trying to do is just so off and everyone trying to do is just so off and everyone felt like i'm i'm busting my hump here felt like i'm i'm busting my hump here felt like i'm i'm busting my hump here and it's not enough and it's not enough and it's not enough and so when you ask me what was what's and so when you ask me what was what's and so when you ask me what was what's something i'm proud at when i look back something i'm proud at when i look back something i'm proud at when i look back on it's times when i took the journey on it's times when i took the journey on it's times when i took the journey more serious and i took the time with more serious and i took the time with more serious and i took the time with the staff and the volunteers the staff and the volunteers the staff and the volunteers to lead that through them keep the to lead that through them keep the to lead that through them keep the vision front and center and the vision front and center and the vision front and center and the experience in the background i think

with the bath water and kind of forgotten or bath water and kind of forgotten or bath water and kind of forgotten or neglected online because they're finally neglected online because they're finally neglected online because they're finally on site again and so encouraging us how on site again and so encouraging us how on site again and so encouraging us how do we do this well super helpful bart
