i didn't get to hear it i didn't get to hear it um but uh shane pruitt who's our guest um but uh shane pruitt who's our guest um but uh shane pruitt who's our guest and i'll let you uh and i'll let you uh and i'll let you uh fill our audience in on a little bit of fill our audience in on a little bit of fill our audience in on a little bit of information about him in just a moment information about him in just a moment information about him in just a moment um but he he leads the ministry and he um but he he leads the ministry and he um but he he leads the ministry and he works works works in evangelism with young young people in evangelism with young young people in evangelism with young young people young adults or young adults or young adults or gender generation y gen y um and uh and gender generation y gen y um and uh and gender generation y gen y um and uh and so i'm really interested in hearing so i'm really interested in hearing so i'm really interested in hearing what he had to share because we're kind what he had to share because we're kind what he had to share because we're kind of living in that space of living in that space of living in that space as as dads of teenagers you know it's as as dads of teenagers you know it's as as dads of teenagers you know it's yeah i'm i'm excited about this yeah i'm i'm excited about this yeah i'm i'm excited about this interview with shane because here's the interview with shane because here's the interview with shane because here's the reality reality reality churches we have to be growing younger churches we have to be growing younger churches we have to be growing younger and that's a hard thing to do these days and that's a hard thing to do these days and that's a hard thing to do these days and if you think about a lot of churches and if you think about a lot of churches and if you think about a lot of churches we talk to we talk to we talk to that are smaller churches um and tend to that are smaller churches um and tend to that are smaller churches um and tend to be smaller churches and size be smaller churches and size be smaller churches and size doesn't mean they're smaller and what doesn't mean they're smaller and what doesn't mean they're smaller and what they're accomplishing for for the lord they're accomplishing for for the lord they're accomplishing for for the lord it's just they've got to have a mindset it's just they've got to have a mindset it's just they've got to have a mindset of we've got to grow younger we got to of we've got to grow younger we got to of we've got to grow younger we got to constantly be growing younger and how do constantly be growing younger and how do constantly be growing younger and how do we reach we reach we reach younger people it's something that we younger people it's something that we younger people it's something that we always talk about admission and always talk about admission and always talk about admission and marketing even though marketing even though marketing even though our our goal is to help you use digital our our goal is to help you use digital our our goal is to help you use digital tools to reach more people tools to reach more people tools to reach more people if you break that down it is how can you if you break that down it is how can you if you break that down it is how can you connect with connect with connect with younger people how can you connect with younger people how can you connect with younger people how can you connect with uh with a generation uh with a generation uh with a generation that for the first time in america never that for the first time in america never that for the first time in america never went to church a lot of kids went to church a lot of kids went to church a lot of kids have never even stepped foot in church have never even stepped foot in church have never even stepped foot in church because mom and dad didn't have an because mom and dad didn't have an because mom and dad didn't have an interest in interest in interest in taking them to church so you're going to taking them to church so you're going to taking them to church so you're going to hear shane talk about he was at hear shane talk about he was at hear shane talk about he was at lunch the other day and he literally had lunch the other day and he literally had lunch the other day and he literally had a conversation with the waiter who's in a conversation with the waiter who's in a conversation with the waiter who's in his early 20s

his early 20s his early 20s who has never stepped foot in a church who has never stepped foot in a church who has never stepped foot in a church and who has never had a bible in his and who has never had a bible in his and who has never had a bible in his hands hands hands in texas in texas the bible belt in texas in texas the bible belt in texas in texas the bible belt so it's a new demo it's a basic it's the so it's a new demo it's a basic it's the so it's a new demo it's a basic it's the buckle of the bible belt buckle of the bible belt buckle of the bible belt buckle now i think multiple states i buckle now i think multiple states i buckle now i think multiple states i think multiple states kind of argue over think multiple states kind of argue over think multiple states kind of argue over that title but uh here in texas that title but uh here in texas that title but uh here in texas that is odd you know i i grew up in that is odd you know i i grew up in that is odd you know i i grew up in texas um texas um texas um i have a friend that i uh a good i have a friend that i uh a good i have a friend that i uh a good friend that i part of my church part of friend that i part of my church part of friend that i part of my church part of my men's group my men's group my men's group who moved actually grew up in texas as who moved actually grew up in texas as who moved actually grew up in texas as well but lived out on the east coast well but lived out on the east coast well but lived out on the east coast for a number of years began following for a number of years began following for a number of years began following jesus when he was out in maryland jesus when he was out in maryland jesus when he was out in maryland and then moved back to texas and i can and then moved back to texas and i can and then moved back to texas and i can remember having a conversation with him remember having a conversation with him remember having a conversation with him a couple of years ago right before a couple of years ago right before a couple of years ago right before easter and we talked about people that easter and we talked about people that easter and we talked about people that we were going to be inviting to our we were going to be inviting to our we were going to be inviting to our church's easter service and he said church's easter service and he said church's easter service and he said the hardest thing in the world around the hardest thing in the world around the hardest thing in the world around here is that everybody that you talk to here is that everybody that you talk to here is that everybody that you talk to goes to church somewhere which is is goes to church somewhere which is is goes to church somewhere which is is kind of an overstatement but it's really kind of an overstatement but it's really kind of an overstatement but it's really not not not at least with our generation if some if at least with our generation if some if at least with our generation if some if the person's like 35 the person's like 35 the person's like 35 and up there's a very good chance that and up there's a very good chance that and up there's a very good chance that they've got some kind of connection with they've got some kind of connection with they've got some kind of connection with church now we have more people moving to church now we have more people moving to church now we have more people moving to texas from outside of texas which texas from outside of texas which texas from outside of texas which you know changes that more people from you know changes that more people from you know changes that more people from the northeast from the pacific northwest the northeast from the pacific northwest the northeast from the pacific northwest half of california is moving to texas half of california is moving to texas half of california is moving to texas yeah um and so yeah um and so yeah um and so yeah that that definitely that yeah that that definitely that yeah that that definitely that definitely definitely definitely is is an interesting thing that he is is an interesting thing that he is is an interesting thing that he shared with you i'll i'll say this shared with you i'll i'll say this shared with you i'll i'll say this to kind of piggyback on what you're to kind of piggyback on what you're to kind of piggyback on what you're saying there is that churches by and

saying there is that churches by and saying there is that churches by and large are led large are led large are led by guys my age guys in their 50s and or by guys my age guys in their 50s and or by guys my age guys in their 50s and or all the way up into their 60s and all the way up into their 60s and all the way up into their 60s and as we lead churches one of the most as we lead churches one of the most as we lead churches one of the most complicated things for complicated things for complicated things for us is really understanding the needs us is really understanding the needs us is really understanding the needs of students today because their needs of students today because their needs of students today because their needs and their challenges and the obstacles and their challenges and the obstacles and their challenges and the obstacles that they're facing that they're facing that they're facing in life are so completely different than in life are so completely different than in life are so completely different than what what what you and i faced when we were teenagers i you and i faced when we were teenagers i you and i faced when we were teenagers i remember when my remember when my remember when my son who's now 18 was 12 or 13 and son who's now 18 was 12 or 13 and son who's now 18 was 12 or 13 and we got him his first cell phone and i we got him his first cell phone and i we got him his first cell phone and i remember putting that phone in his hand remember putting that phone in his hand remember putting that phone in his hand and thinking to myself he will never not and thinking to myself he will never not and thinking to myself he will never not have a phone in his hand have a phone in his hand have a phone in his hand ever again like it's just once once ever again like it's just once once ever again like it's just once once this generation has had that phone this generation has had that phone this generation has had that phone they'll never not have a phone they'll never not have a phone they'll never not have a phone and um and the fate and the challenges and um and the fate and the challenges and um and the fate and the challenges that they face as a result of social that they face as a result of social that they face as a result of social media and just media and just media and just the fast-paced change of communication the fast-paced change of communication the fast-paced change of communication and the way that media is distributed and the way that media is distributed and the way that media is distributed and all this stuff and all this stuff and all this stuff it just changes it changes the it just changes it changes the it just changes it changes the challenges that they face and with that challenges that they face and with that challenges that they face and with that obviously comes a need for us to change obviously comes a need for us to change obviously comes a need for us to change our strategies and our methodology our strategies and our methodology our strategies and our methodology for reaching these young people uh with for reaching these young people uh with for reaching these young people uh with the pure the pure the pure unadulterated message of jesus and about unadulterated message of jesus and about unadulterated message of jesus and about how god loves them how god loves them how god loves them wants to have a relationship with them wants to have a relationship with them wants to have a relationship with them and that their lives can actually be and that their lives can actually be and that their lives can actually be transformed in a positive way transformed in a positive way transformed in a positive way um not because god is this big angry um not because god is this big angry um not because god is this big angry ogre in the sky with a bunch of ogre in the sky with a bunch of ogre in the sky with a bunch of rules which is what most teenagers think rules which is what most teenagers think rules which is what most teenagers think is what i thought when i was a teenager is what i thought when i was a teenager is what i thought when i was a teenager um but that he actually has a loving um but that he actually has a loving um but that he actually has a loving father who father who father who is actually even if you know i think

is actually even if you know i think is actually even if you know i think you're a pretty good dad with your kids you're a pretty good dad with your kids you're a pretty good dad with your kids i think my kids would say i'm a pretty i think my kids would say i'm a pretty i think my kids would say i'm a pretty good dad but god's an even better dad good dad but god's an even better dad good dad but god's an even better dad and so how do we present um how do we and so how do we present um how do we and so how do we present um how do we present god present god present god to this next generation of young people to this next generation of young people to this next generation of young people in a way that helps them really see hope in a way that helps them really see hope in a way that helps them really see hope find hope uh in find hope uh in find hope uh in a real relationship with jesus so yeah a real relationship with jesus so yeah a real relationship with jesus so yeah um um um well shane speaks to that and i'm i'm well shane speaks to that and i'm i'm well shane speaks to that and i'm i'm excited about that because when i relate excited about that because when i relate excited about that because when i relate that to that to that to what we're trying to accomplish here at what we're trying to accomplish here at what we're trying to accomplish here at missional marketing we're totally in missional marketing we're totally in missional marketing we're totally in sync sync sync we're so focused on helping to connect we're so focused on helping to connect we're so focused on helping to connect with with with with all people but specifically younger with all people but specifically younger with all people but specifically younger people that are people that are people that are dealing with felt needs and so one of dealing with felt needs and so one of dealing with felt needs and so one of the fun things that we get to do you get the fun things that we get to do you get the fun things that we get to do you get to do this every day i get to do this to do this every day i get to do this to do this every day i get to do this every day is coach every day is coach every day is coach churches on how to do this effectively churches on how to do this effectively churches on how to do this effectively yeah and so yeah i'm really excited yeah and so yeah i'm really excited yeah and so yeah i'm really excited about what you're going to hear with about what you're going to hear with about what you're going to hear with with shane is there anything else that with shane is there anything else that with shane is there anything else that we need to know about shane before we we need to know about shane before we we need to know about shane before we roll into the interview roll into the interview roll into the interview oh yeah he's a he's a dad he's got young oh yeah he's a he's a dad he's got young oh yeah he's a he's a dad he's got young kids so kids so kids so he's got bunches of kids running around he's got bunches of kids running around he's got bunches of kids running around and uh he's so funny because he said if and uh he's so funny because he said if and uh he's so funny because he said if it's quiet in our house it's quiet in our house it's quiet in our house something's wrong so but he lives in uh something's wrong so but he lives in uh something's wrong so but he lives in uh rockwall texas which is just a suburb rockwall texas which is just a suburb rockwall texas which is just a suburb there of dallas there of dallas there of dallas his wife's on staff at lake point great his wife's on staff at lake point great his wife's on staff at lake point great church there church there church there and he travels around all around the and he travels around all around the and he travels around all around the country and country and country and he loves his job and he's got a lot of he loves his job and he's got a lot of he loves his job and he's got a lot of experience uh in the church world experience uh in the church world experience uh in the church world as a pastor obviously volunteering and as a pastor obviously volunteering and as a pastor obviously volunteering and all kinds of stuff that he's doing all kinds of stuff that he's doing all kinds of stuff that he's doing um but when he was called to serve at um but when he was called to serve at um but when he was called to serve at the north american mission board and the north american mission board and the north american mission board and that's what he did he's the national

right i think with generation z they right i think with generation z they know know know they're either in or out they know they're either in or out they know they're either in or out they know they're either a christian or not they're either a christian or not they're either a christian or not they're either in a church they're either in a church they're either in a church or they're not there's no kind of in or they're not there's no kind of in or they're not there's no kind of in between foot in both world they're between foot in both world they're between foot in both world they're either in or out and so either in or out and so either in or out and so i've seen more young people i've seen more young people i've seen more young people come to know jesus make a profession of come to know jesus make a profession of come to know jesus make a profession of faith in probably the last faith in probably the last faith in probably the last year and a half to two years in the year and a half to two years in the year and a half to two years in the previous 15 years of ministry combined previous 15 years of ministry combined previous 15 years of ministry combined meaning just flat out get saved come to meaning just flat out get saved come to meaning just flat out get saved come to know jesus and here's what i know about know jesus and here's what i know about know jesus and here's what i know about that generation is they know it's that generation is they know it's that generation is they know it's probably going to cost them something probably going to cost them something probably going to cost them something to follow jesus meaning they're going to to follow jesus meaning they're going to to follow jesus meaning they're going to have friends make fun of them family have friends make fun of them family have friends make fun of them family make fun of them they know navigating if make fun of them they know navigating if make fun of them they know navigating if they're in a university or public school they're in a university or public school they're in a university or public school it's going to be hard to navigate it's going to be hard to navigate it's going to be hard to navigate following jesus in those settings and so following jesus in those settings and so following jesus in those settings and so when they make a decision to follow when they make a decision to follow when they make a decision to follow jesus on some level they go all jesus on some level they go all jesus on some level they go all in and they're radical with it and so i in and they're radical with it and so i in and they're radical with it and so i think one of the biggest barriers think one of the biggest barriers think one of the biggest barriers as the church is to know you're trying as the church is to know you're trying as the church is to know you're trying to reach the least religious generation to reach the least religious generation to reach the least religious generation we've ever seen we've ever seen we've ever seen and so on some of you can't just sit and so on some of you can't just sit and so on some of you can't just sit back and wait for them to come to you back and wait for them to come to you back and wait for them to come to you to go hey one day they're just going to to go hey one day they're just going to to go hey one day they're just going to wake up and have an epiphany that they wake up and have an epiphany that they wake up and have an epiphany that they should go to church or should go to church or should go to church or a religious service or worship service a religious service or worship service a religious service or worship service chances are they're not chances are they're not chances are they're not so they're going to come if a trusted so they're going to come if a trusted so they're going to come if a trusted friend friend friend invites them or if their life is just invites them or if their life is just invites them or if their life is just blown up blown up blown up and they're looking for answers and they and they're looking for answers and they and they're looking for answers and they go i'll try the church go i'll try the church go i'll try the church or the church was already out in their or the church was already out in their or the church was already out in their context living on mission context living on mission context living on mission and so big hurdles but big opportunities and so big hurdles but big opportunities and so big hurdles but big opportunities i think the second one that churches are i think the second one that churches are i think the second one that churches are trying to navigate right now too trying to navigate right now too trying to navigate right now too is diversity uh generation z um

by using your people to connect so i by using your people to connect so i think that's always think that's always think that's always been doing it for 2000 years jesus been doing it for 2000 years jesus been doing it for 2000 years jesus started that so started that so started that so we we didn't invent it i think it works we we didn't invent it i think it works we we didn't invent it i think it works i think it works um i think it works um i think it works um so you ha that's the like that's the so you ha that's the like that's the so you ha that's the like that's the first approach but you first approach but you first approach but you boy you dropped something that's pretty boy you dropped something that's pretty boy you dropped something that's pretty big there where this next generation big there where this next generation big there where this next generation if if half of them have never even or if if half of them have never even or if if half of them have never even or more have never more have never more have never even stepped foot in a church ever even even stepped foot in a church ever even even stepped foot in a church ever even held a bible held a bible held a bible that could be kind of daunting and a that could be kind of daunting and a that could be kind of daunting and a little bit overwhelming however little bit overwhelming however little bit overwhelming however maybe it's super fresh because they maybe it's super fresh because they maybe it's super fresh because they haven't they haven't experienced like i haven't they haven't experienced like i haven't they haven't experienced like i i've talked to a lot of people that go i've talked to a lot of people that go i've talked to a lot of people that go you know what you know what you know what uh i don't really like the church uh i don't really like the church uh i don't really like the church because i don't like the people in the because i don't like the people in the because i don't like the people in the church i don't like you christians church i don't like you christians church i don't like you christians yeah jesus uh you know yeah jesus uh you know yeah jesus uh you know whatever with jesus but when they've whatever with jesus but when they've whatever with jesus but when they've been burned it makes it a harder hurdle been burned it makes it a harder hurdle been burned it makes it a harder hurdle but if they've never had any kind of but if they've never had any kind of but if they've never had any kind of experience experience experience then maybe it's another opportunity then maybe it's another opportunity then maybe it's another opportunity you also said something else that caught you also said something else that caught you also said something else that caught my attention and that is my attention and that is my attention and that is if if uh they're not gonna just show up if if uh they're not gonna just show up if if uh they're not gonna just show up probably probably probably we know they're dealing with some kind we know they're dealing with some kind we know they're dealing with some kind of an issue an addiction of an issue an addiction of an issue an addiction they're sad or grief you know they've they're sad or grief you know they've they're sad or grief you know they've lost something lost a loved one lost something lost a loved one lost something lost a loved one um it might be a marriage failure um it might be a marriage failure um it might be a marriage failure parenting failure that kind of stuff parenting failure that kind of stuff parenting failure that kind of stuff and so they may be looking for answers and so they may be looking for answers and so they may be looking for answers right and the church would have those right and the church would have those right and the church would have those answers but don't expect them to show up answers but don't expect them to show up answers but don't expect them to show up to church to church to church you can't that model is kind of going you can't that model is kind of going you can't that model is kind of going away away away if not almost gone away uh maybe if not almost gone away uh maybe if not almost gone away uh maybe maybe that'll you know cover pretty much

for two thousand years right so for two thousand years right so two that i think of uh is long hollow two that i think of uh is long hollow two that i think of uh is long hollow uh in tennessee uh in hendersonville uh in tennessee uh in hendersonville uh in tennessee uh in hendersonville um their multi-campus church and i'm um their multi-campus church and i'm um their multi-campus church and i'm telling you they're experiencing telling you they're experiencing telling you they're experiencing revival uh and and it's so fun it's revival uh and and it's so fun it's revival uh and and it's so fun it's almost like almost like almost like uh what we would consider almost like uh what we would consider almost like uh what we would consider almost like old school type of way like they're old school type of way like they're old school type of way like they're doing like prayer meetings doing like prayer meetings doing like prayer meetings and uh they're doing spontaneous baptism and uh they're doing spontaneous baptism and uh they're doing spontaneous baptism and sharing the gospel but they're and sharing the gospel but they're and sharing the gospel but they're equipping their people equipping their people equipping their people to go live on mission um to go live on mission um to go live on mission um and so they've seen tons of baptisms and so they've seen tons of baptisms and so they've seen tons of baptisms this year already this year already this year already even during covet continuing to grow uh even during covet continuing to grow uh even during covet continuing to grow uh just just just so many stories of of miracles and life so many stories of of miracles and life so many stories of of miracles and life changing when i say miracles changing when i say miracles changing when i say miracles uh this is a baptist church you know uh this is a baptist church you know uh this is a baptist church you know what i mean so a lot of times we don't what i mean so a lot of times we don't what i mean so a lot of times we don't throw around the word miracles in throw around the word miracles in throw around the word miracles in baptist churches baptist churches baptist churches you know we don't really throw around you know we don't really throw around you know we don't really throw around that word a whole lot but they're seeing that word a whole lot but they're seeing that word a whole lot but they're seeing and a movement of god and uh and a movement of god and uh and a movement of god and uh i think it's primarily because of what i think it's primarily because of what i think it's primarily because of what we're talking about uh don't even say we're talking about uh don't even say we're talking about uh don't even say things like this i think of will moore things like this i think of will moore things like this i think of will moore their lead student pastor their lead student pastor their lead student pastor um he'll he'll do this in all their um he'll he'll do this in all their um he'll he'll do this in all their campuses and they just set this as a campuses and they just set this as a campuses and they just set this as a culture and these are what teenagers culture and these are what teenagers culture and these are what teenagers he'll tell them all the time hey listen he'll tell them all the time hey listen he'll tell them all the time hey listen you're not the future of the church you're not the future of the church you're not the future of the church according to the new testament if you've according to the new testament if you've according to the new testament if you've been bought by the blood of jesus you been bought by the blood of jesus you been bought by the blood of jesus you have the holy spirit of god have the holy spirit of god have the holy spirit of god you are the church right now you have a you are the church right now you have a you are the church right now you have a calling on your life now calling on your life now calling on your life now uh you got the great commission on your uh you got the great commission on your uh you got the great commission on your life now uh hey life now uh hey life now uh hey if you can drive a motor vehicle if you if you can drive a motor vehicle if you if you can drive a motor vehicle if you think about this even in culture if you think about this even in culture if you think about this even in culture if you drive a motor vehicle and you can have a drive a motor vehicle and you can have a drive a motor vehicle and you can have a job job job at 18 you can hold a weapon servant in at 18 you can hold a weapon servant in at 18 you can hold a weapon servant in the military serving around the world

the military serving around the world the military serving around the world you can serve the church be the church you can serve the church be the church you can serve the church be the church you can be trained to share your faith you can be trained to share your faith you can be trained to share your faith and so he'll ask this question and he'll and so he'll ask this question and he'll and so he'll ask this question and he'll say who are the student pastors say who are the student pastors say who are the student pastors of long hollow students and then you'll of long hollow students and then you'll of long hollow students and then you'll have hundreds of students go have hundreds of students go have hundreds of students go we are like they own it you know and so we are like they own it you know and so we are like they own it you know and so they see they see they see themselves as the church ministry they themselves as the church ministry they themselves as the church ministry they have ownership in it they have stake in have ownership in it they have stake in have ownership in it they have stake in it they have partnership in it it they have partnership in it it they have partnership in it and so i love that i love that i've and so i love that i love that i've and so i love that i love that i've shared that all over the place since shared that all over the place since shared that all over the place since i've heard i've heard i've heard that he'll go who are the student that he'll go who are the student that he'll go who are the student pastors along holo and you'll have pastors along holo and you'll have pastors along holo and you'll have you know 500 600 teenagers go we are you you know 500 600 teenagers go we are you you know 500 600 teenagers go we are you know know know it's overwhelming i love it so i it's overwhelming i love it so i it's overwhelming i love it so i actually spoke there several weeks ago actually spoke there several weeks ago actually spoke there several weeks ago and i was like i want to do it and i go and i was like i want to do it and i go and i was like i want to do it and i go who are those student pastors here and who are those student pastors here and who are those student pastors here and they go we are they go we are they go we are so i love that but what he's doing is so i love that but what he's doing is so i love that but what he's doing is giving ownership of the ministry giving ownership of the ministry giving ownership of the ministry to the people to go hey this isn't to the people to go hey this isn't to the people to go hey this isn't something for you to sit something for you to sit something for you to sit and spectate and consume like you're the and spectate and consume like you're the and spectate and consume like you're the ministry ministry ministry you're the church own it go win the you're the church own it go win the you're the church own it go win the world for jesus world for jesus world for jesus and he's even doing that with teenagers and he's even doing that with teenagers and he's even doing that with teenagers i love that and that's really a culture i love that and that's really a culture i love that and that's really a culture of the whole church of the whole church of the whole church um another one i think of and i'm using um another one i think of and i'm using um another one i think of and i'm using kind of next-gen examples kind of next-gen examples kind of next-gen examples there's a great collegiate ministry in there's a great collegiate ministry in there's a great collegiate ministry in denton called overflow denton called overflow denton called overflow it's a tuesday night ministry it's a tuesday night ministry it's a tuesday night ministry uh as a gathering it's hosted by church uh as a gathering it's hosted by church uh as a gathering it's hosted by church but it's really for the campus of the but it's really for the campus of the but it's really for the campus of the university of north texas university of north texas university of north texas and texas women's university and some and texas women's university and some and texas women's university and some other campuses there other campuses there other campuses there but it's a ministry with about but it's a ministry with about but it's a ministry with about four or five hundred college students in four or five hundred college students in four or five hundred college students in it um they have a college pastor it um they have a college pastor it um they have a college pastor uh who is a guy you know in his early uh who is a guy you know in his early uh who is a guy you know in his early forties that oversee the whole movement

forties that oversee the whole movement forties that oversee the whole movement but the whole ministry is ran by college but the whole ministry is ran by college but the whole ministry is ran by college students students students small group teachers or college students small group teachers or college students small group teachers or college students i speak there once or twice a semester i speak there once or twice a semester i speak there once or twice a semester for them for them for them so if i preach and give an invitation or so if i preach and give an invitation or so if i preach and give an invitation or a response time a response time a response time those response counselors all college those response counselors all college those response counselors all college students students students they even do like apologetics uh they even do like apologetics uh they even do like apologetics uh training because they're on the campus training because they're on the campus training because they're on the campus of secular universities of secular universities of secular universities all taught and led by college students all taught and led by college students all taught and led by college students so it's truly a ministry of so it's truly a ministry of so it's truly a ministry of collegiate ministry led by college collegiate ministry led by college collegiate ministry led by college students students students and kind of overseen by a guy who's and kind of overseen by a guy who's and kind of overseen by a guy who's pouring into those collegiate leaders as pouring into those collegiate leaders as pouring into those collegiate leaders as they pour into their own generation they pour into their own generation they pour into their own generation so i think it's those models of raising so i think it's those models of raising so i think it's those models of raising up raising the expectation up raising the expectation up raising the expectation i think with the next generation we may i think with the next generation we may i think with the next generation we may have to explain all the terms we've got have to explain all the terms we've got have to explain all the terms we've got to be careful of our spiritual jargon to be careful of our spiritual jargon to be careful of our spiritual jargon because they didn't grow up in church because they didn't grow up in church because they didn't grow up in church a lot of them right um but we really a lot of them right um but we really a lot of them right um but we really don't have to dumb it down don't have to dumb it down don't have to dumb it down just disciple them up give them just disciple them up give them just disciple them up give them ownership and it's amazing ownership and it's amazing ownership and it's amazing at the innovation and creativity they'll at the innovation and creativity they'll at the innovation and creativity they'll come up with to reach their own come up with to reach their own come up with to reach their own generation with the gospel generation with the gospel generation with the gospel that's really hopeful because you you that's really hopeful because you you that's really hopeful because you you know it we're not relying on the lead know it we're not relying on the lead know it we're not relying on the lead pastor pastor pastor to save that generation no no no yeah to save that generation no no no yeah to save that generation no no no yeah it's peer to peer it's peer to peer it's peer to peer yeah but that generation saved their yeah but that generation saved their yeah but that generation saved their generation generation generation and yeah because they get excited about and yeah because they get excited about and yeah because they get excited about that i love it because if you think that i love it because if you think that i love it because if you think about it about it about it say even generation z like when we talk say even generation z like when we talk say even generation z like when we talk about reaching about reaching about reaching say gen z what typically takes place say gen z what typically takes place say gen z what typically takes place right you usually get right you usually get right you usually get an older millennial or gen xer or a an older millennial or gen xer or a an older millennial or gen xer or a boomer boomer boomer trying to tell other boomers millennials trying to tell other boomers millennials trying to tell other boomers millennials and gen xers how to reach gen z but

show up to church yeah that's gonna show up to church yeah that's gonna happen a little bit but that's happen a little bit but that's happen a little bit but that's that's dying we have to go but that that's dying we have to go but that that's dying we have to go but that means we can be really creative in how means we can be really creative in how means we can be really creative in how we do that yeah we do that yeah we do that yeah equipping younger people or using equipping younger people or using equipping younger people or using digital tools digital tools digital tools to connect with somebody where they are to connect with somebody where they are to connect with somebody where they are with their felt with their felt with their felt need right and meet them there in their need right and meet them there in their need right and meet them there in their space on their time on their space on their time on their space on their time on their apple device we were joking about we're apple device we were joking about we're apple device we were joking about we're all an apple here all an apple here all an apple here yeah but using using uh stories yeah but using using uh stories yeah but using using uh stories to you know through change live to to you know through change live to to you know through change live to connect with connect with connect with you know if there's a 22 year old who's you know if there's a 22 year old who's you know if there's a 22 year old who's struggling with you know struggling with you know struggling with you know stress and is contemplating suicide stress and is contemplating suicide stress and is contemplating suicide if he or she hears a story of somebody if he or she hears a story of somebody if he or she hears a story of somebody their own age who's done that their own age who's done that their own age who's done that and came through that right because of and came through that right because of and came through that right because of the hope of jesus the hope of jesus the hope of jesus that's in spot i mean that yeah that's in spot i mean that yeah that's in spot i mean that yeah that's that's that's the answer right that's that's that's the answer right that's that's that's the answer right there and and there and and there and and you see that and they connect and they you see that and they connect and they you see that and they connect and they take that next step that's all you can take that next step that's all you can take that next step that's all you can ask for ask for ask for yeah i love it you know if you think yeah i love it you know if you think yeah i love it you know if you think about it too typically the two times in about it too typically the two times in about it too typically the two times in people's lives when they do come to know people's lives when they do come to know people's lives when they do come to know jesus or they do jesus or they do jesus or they do join a church is usually in transition join a church is usually in transition join a church is usually in transition and trouble and trouble and trouble transition and trouble and so i think as transition and trouble and so i think as transition and trouble and so i think as the church if we can be ready to help the church if we can be ready to help the church if we can be ready to help minister through transitions and help minister through transitions and help minister through transitions and help minister in times of trouble minister in times of trouble minister in times of trouble that's when we can really be the church that's when we can really be the church that's when we can really be the church because you think because you think because you think so so trouble you know like a loss of a so so trouble you know like a loss of a so so trouble you know like a loss of a loved one loved one loved one uh uh their marriage is falling apart uh uh their marriage is falling apart uh uh their marriage is falling apart they lost a job addictions so i think they lost a job addictions so i think they lost a job addictions so i think that's a space that's a space that's a space trouble spots the church can step in

trouble spots the church can step in trouble spots the church can step in there and there and there and really be a help to the community that really be a help to the community that really be a help to the community that god's placed them in god's placed them in god's placed them in and then transition you know usually a and then transition you know usually a and then transition you know usually a transition of transition of transition of uh like high school to college they go uh like high school to college they go uh like high school to college they go to a college campus to a college campus to a college campus they don't know anybody they're looking they don't know anybody they're looking they don't know anybody they're looking for a hope they're looking for community for a hope they're looking for community for a hope they're looking for community that's a way for the church to step in that's a way for the church to step in that's a way for the church to step in uh getting married a lot of times uh getting married a lot of times uh getting married a lot of times getting married getting married getting married uh like you're like oh okay well i feel uh like you're like oh okay well i feel uh like you're like oh okay well i feel a little more a little more a little more settled in my life so man okay then you settled in my life so man okay then you settled in my life so man okay then you start thinking about eternal things or start thinking about eternal things or start thinking about eternal things or kids transition kids transition kids transition you start having kids i want my kids to you start having kids i want my kids to you start having kids i want my kids to grow up grow up grow up knowing the lord and even it's weird knowing the lord and even it's weird knowing the lord and even it's weird sometimes even sometimes even sometimes even people who don't know the lord people who don't know the lord people who don't know the lord themselves they have a desire for their themselves they have a desire for their themselves they have a desire for their kids i know kids i know kids i know enough yeah yeah so i always say like i enough yeah yeah so i always say like i enough yeah yeah so i always say like i think transitions think transitions think transitions in trouble if the church can step in in trouble if the church can step in in trouble if the church can step in there i think those are there i think those are there i think those are great ways for people to come to know great ways for people to come to know great ways for people to come to know the lord and get in the community that's the lord and get in the community that's the lord and get in the community that's really well said really well said really well said yeah wow so so in your role of yeah wow so so in your role of yeah wow so so in your role of of you're just you're equipping and of you're just you're equipping and of you're just you're equipping and educating churches educating churches educating churches hey this is how this next wave is here hey this is how this next wave is here hey this is how this next wave is here and and and this is what you need to do to equip is this is what you need to do to equip is this is what you need to do to equip is that is that pretty much what your that is that pretty much what your that is that pretty much what your what your role is yeah exactly yeah very what your role is yeah exactly yeah very what your role is yeah exactly yeah very much so much so much so and uh and we and we really approach it and uh and we and we really approach it and uh and we and we really approach it you know yeah discipleship you know yeah discipleship you know yeah discipleship um we care deeply about that and all um we care deeply about that and all um we care deeply about that and all those things but those things but those things but really kind of with college students really kind of with college students really kind of with college students high school students junior high high school students junior high high school students junior high students we students we students we really lean in heavily on the evangelism really lean in heavily on the evangelism really lean in heavily on the evangelism side of things side of things side of things and then mobilizing the next generation and then mobilizing the next generation and then mobilizing the next generation to share the gospel to share the gospel to share the gospel uh with their friends um and primarily uh with their friends um and primarily uh with their friends um and primarily the reason for that is statistically the reason for that is statistically the reason for that is statistically speaking

who we typically share those with people who we typically share those with people who are going through are going through are going through a difficult time those troubled times a difficult time those troubled times a difficult time those troubled times like we talked about logo like we talked about logo like we talked about logo right i mean you don't say god won't right i mean you don't say god won't right i mean you don't say god won't give you more than you can handle to give you more than you can handle to give you more than you can handle to someone who's having the best day of someone who's having the best day of someone who's having the best day of their life their life their life usually you share that with someone usually you share that with someone usually you share that with someone who's struggling and here's what we know who's struggling and here's what we know who's struggling and here's what we know what's going to get us through those what's going to get us through those what's going to get us through those dark nights of the soul dark nights of the soul dark nights of the soul it's god's holy word his infinite truth it's god's holy word his infinite truth it's god's holy word his infinite truth is always going to be a lot more is always going to be a lot more is always going to be a lot more effective effective effective than some little cultural cliche that's than some little cultural cliche that's than some little cultural cliche that's not even biblically true so each chapter not even biblically true so each chapter not even biblically true so each chapter takes one of those kind of cliches like takes one of those kind of cliches like takes one of those kind of cliches like that that that and gives a biblical truth that's a and gives a biblical truth that's a and gives a biblical truth that's a better truth to move forward with than better truth to move forward with than better truth to move forward with than that cliche that cliche that cliche and the response has been awesome all and the response has been awesome all and the response has been awesome all glory to god um it's been cool a lot of glory to god um it's been cool a lot of glory to god um it's been cool a lot of churches have used it as a sermon series churches have used it as a sermon series churches have used it as a sermon series the way it lays out the way it rare seizure disorder called linux got a rare seizure disorder called linux got a rare seizure disorder called linux gastro syndrome which means he gastro syndrome which means he gastro syndrome which means he suffers from multiple forms of seizures suffers from multiple forms of seizures suffers from multiple forms of seizures and so uh every day and so uh every day and so uh every day and so he's in a wheelchair he doesn't and so he's in a wheelchair he doesn't and so he's in a wheelchair he doesn't communicate like you and i do he's fed communicate like you and i do he's fed communicate like you and i do he's fed through a g tube through a g tube through a g tube and just he's been with us for eight and just he's been with us for eight and just he's been with us for eight years years years and uh you know multiple surgeries in and uh you know multiple surgeries in and uh you know multiple surgeries in and out of the hospital and out of the hospital and out of the hospital therapies all those kind of things and therapies all those kind of things and therapies all those kind of things and um um um through that journey early on you know through that journey early on you know through that journey early on you know well-meaning people once again would say well-meaning people once again would say well-meaning people once again would say things like well things like well things like well you know what the bible says god won't you know what the bible says god won't you know what the bible says god won't give you more than can handle and you're give you more than can article for relevant uh relevant as an article for relevant uh relevant as an article for relevant uh relevant magazine and magazine and magazine and uh we named it seven unbiblical uh we named it seven unbiblical uh we named it seven unbiblical statements christians believe and it was statements christians believe and it was statements christians believe and it was kind of those things and you know god kind of those things and you know god kind of those things and you know god helps those who help themselves helps those who help themselves helps those who help themselves remember what my grandma used to tell me remember what my grandma used to tell me remember what my grandma used to tell me cleanliness is next to godliness you cleanliness is next to godliness you cleanliness is next to godliness you know and all those things know and all those things know and all those things so we're like hey what are some so we're like hey what are some so we're like hey what are some statements that we all say that aren't statements that we all say that aren't statements that we all say that aren't even in the bible even in the bible even in the bible and so made like that in an article and and so made like that in an article and and so made like that in an article and it was their most read article of the it was their most read article of the it was their most read article of the year so i had some publishers reach out year so i had some publishers reach out year so i had some publishers reach out to me about turning that into a book to me about turning that into a book to me about turning that into a book and uh we found the right partner the and uh we found the right partner the and uh we found the right partner the right publisher and yeah that's kind of right these at all these at all you know because i think you know you know because i think you know you know because i think you know somebody told us those sounded nice somebody told us those sounded nice somebody told us those sounded nice so in a moment where we're trying to so in a moment where we're trying to so in a moment where we're trying to help somebody we don't really know what help somebody we don't really know what help somebody we don't really know what to say to say to say and so we just kind of re we just for and so we just kind of re we just for and so we just kind of re we just for like a better term regurgitate whatever like a better term regurgitate whatever like a better term regurgitate whatever has been told us and i just want to just has been told us and i just want to just has been told us and i just want to just maybe change the narrative the dialogue maybe change the narrative the dialogue maybe change the narrative the dialogue a little bit to go hey there's actually a little bit to go hey there's actually a little bit to go hey there's actually some some some better biblically true things better biblically true things better biblically true things that will really help us um you know and that will really help us um you know and that will really help us um you know and i always tell people i always tell people i always tell people you know in this book is like you don't you know in this book is like you don't you know in this book is like you don't want to get in a theological debate with want to get in a theological debate with want to get in a theological debate with someone who is struggling someone who is struggling someone who is struggling really really bad you know i think in really really bad you know i think in really really bad you know i think in those moments listen pray those moments listen pray those moments listen pray but when emotions are set to the side but when emotions are set to the side but when emotions are set to the side cooler has prevailed those are great cooler has prevailed those are great cooler has prevailed those are great opportunities to talk about opportunities to talk about opportunities to talk about eternal truths and what scripture eternal truths and what scripture eternal truths and what scripture actually teaches you know for example actually teaches you know for example actually teaches you know for example been in ministry long enough where i've been in ministry long enough where i've been in ministry long enough where i've done a ton of funerals um done a ton of funerals um done a ton of funerals um you know where the casket is a lot you know where the casket is a lot you know where the casket is a lot smaller than a casket should ever be smaller than a casket should ever be smaller than a casket should ever be right and so if you're if you're doing right and so if you're if you're doing right and so if you're if you're doing that funeral that funeral that funeral and you're talking to a mom and dad that and you're talking to a mom and dad that and you're talking to a mom and dad that just buried their five-year-old just buried their five-year-old just buried their five-year-old and they say something like well i guess and they say something like well i guess and they say something like well i guess god needed another angel god needed another angel god needed another angel or i know he got his angel wings today or i know he got his angel wings today or i know he got his angel wings today um that's not the right setting to go um that's not the right setting to go um that's not the right setting to go well well well actually you know what i mean that's not actually you know what i mean that's not actually you know what i mean that's not the right setting right but the right setting right but the right setting right but when emotions are set to the side clear when emotions are set to the side clear when emotions are set to the side clear heads prevail we're walking doing life heads prevail we're walking doing life heads prevail we're walking doing life together together together those are great opportunities to teach those are great opportunities to teach those are great opportunities to teach real biblical truths and not some real biblical truths and not some real biblical truths and not some kind of cultural cliche that was seen on kind of cultural cliche that was seen on kind of cultural cliche that was seen on a coffee mug or on a twitter statement a coffee mug or on a twitter statement a coffee mug or on a twitter statement yeah yeah well as we wind this up like yeah yeah well as we wind this up like yeah yeah well as we wind this up like uh what's uh just if there's one thing uh what's uh just if there's one thing uh what's uh just if there's one thing you could share with
