have the biggest ego are the ones that have the biggest ego are the ones that have the biggest ego and the ones that really take themselves and the ones that really take themselves and the ones that really take themselves so seriously because they think that so seriously because they think that so seriously because they think that they are all that and look if you are a they are all that and look if you are a they are all that and look if you are a leader if you are someone that's doing leader if you are someone that's doing leader if you are someone that's doing something that you know you feel like something that you know you feel like something that you know you feel like truly matters you have to have a certain truly matters you have to have a certain truly matters you have to have a certain belief in yourself and as an belief in yourself and as an belief in yourself and as an entrepreneur on this side of things I

entrepreneur on this side of things I entrepreneur on this side of things I always say like you have to have a always say like you have to have a always say like you have to have a little bit of like self-delusion to little bit of like self-delusion to little bit of like self-delusion to think that you can like do something think that you can like do something think that you can like do something that most people would never consider that most people would never consider that most people would never consider trying so you have to be like a little trying so you have to be like a little trying so you have to be like a little delusional but at the same point you delusional but at the same point you delusional but at the same point you can't take yourself so serious obviously can't take yourself so serious obviously can't take yourself so serious obviously that when you're having personal that when you're having personal that when you're having personal conflict with somebody else that you conflict with somebody else that you conflict with somebody else that you can't get past your own ego and can't get past your own ego and can't get past your own ego and this probably doesn't crop up at the this probably doesn't crop up at the this probably doesn't crop up at the beginning of most things right like beginning of most things right like beginning of most things right like there's always that honeymoon period for there's always that honeymoon period for there's always that honeymoon period for virtually anything and so even when virtually anything and so even when virtually anything and so even when you're in a new church you know you you're in a new church you know you you're in a new church you know you might have like two three years where might have like two three years where might have like two three years where things are pretty good because it's just things are pretty good because it's just things are pretty good because it's just like it's new and you've got all these like it's new and you've got all these like it's new and you've got all these exciting things happening and it's fresh exciting things happening and it's fresh exciting things happening and it's fresh and then eventually that freshness wears and then eventually that freshness wears and then eventually that freshness wears off and maybe you have your first kind off and maybe you have your first kind off and maybe you have your first kind of bigger conflict with your senior of bigger conflict with your senior of bigger conflict with your senior leader or you have one of your first leader or you have one of your first leader or you have one of your first bigger conflicts with a parishioner in bigger conflicts with a parishioner in bigger conflicts with a parishioner in your church or someone below you on the your church or someone below you on the your church or someone below you on the leadership hierarchy in your ministry leadership hierarchy in your ministry leadership hierarchy in your ministry and suddenly now this is when you're and suddenly now this is when you're and suddenly now this is when you're really put to the test and so I always really put to the test and so I always really put to the test and so I always try to remind myself okay don't take try to remind myself okay don't take try to remind myself okay don't take yourself too seriously at the end of the yourself too seriously at the end of the yourself too seriously at the end of the day you know you have to be you know day you know you have to be you know day you know you have to be you know working this out with this person to working this out with this person to working this out with this person to provide for long-term uh success in the provide for long-term uh success in the provide for long-term uh success in the relationship second thing is to make relationship second thing is to make relationship second thing is to make values-based decisions values-based decisions values-based decisions so we hear this from a lot I've been so we hear this from a lot I've been so we hear this from a lot I've been looking through all the questions we got looking through all the questions we got looking through all the questions we got during this uh during this kind of during this uh during this kind of during this uh during this kind of contest period and a lot of people just contest period and a lot of people just contest period and a lot of people just asking the question like how how do I asking the question like how how do I asking the question like how how do I get my pastor to like see the value in X get my pastor to like see the value in X get my pastor to like see the value in X yeah or like why why what do you do when yeah or like why why what do you do when yeah or like why why what do you do when a pastor like just keeps doing why and a pastor like just keeps doing why and a pastor like just keeps doing why and my best guess is that for those that are

senior leaders decision making that stems from leaders decision making that stems from leaders decision making that stems from them not seeing what are the values that them not seeing what are the values that them not seeing what are the values that are inspiring this decision and things are inspiring this decision and things are inspiring this decision and things go really smoothly in a church when the go really smoothly in a church when the go really smoothly in a church when the mission is clear the mission is mission is clear the mission is mission is clear the mission is articulated and understood by both the articulated and understood by both the articulated and understood by both the staff the leadership and the staff the leadership and the staff the leadership and the congregation and then decisions can be congregation and then decisions can be congregation and then decisions can be tied back to those values and that tied back to those values and that tied back to those values and that mission we spent money in this way mission we spent money in this way mission we spent money in this way because this is our mission and we because this is our mission and we because this is our mission and we believe that the best way to fulfill believe that the best way to fulfill believe that the best way to fulfill that mission is to make a decision in that mission is to make a decision in that mission is to make a decision in this way when you make a values-based this way when you make a values-based this way when you make a values-based decision people may disagree with how decision people may disagree with how decision people may disagree with how you arrived at that but they they you arrived at that but they they you arrived at that but they they understand your line of reasoning understand your line of reasoning understand your line of reasoning and if you're trying to build a culture and if you're trying to build a culture and if you're trying to build a culture if you're trying to like you know bring if you're trying to like you know bring if you're trying to like you know bring a group of people in a certain way and a group of people in a certain way and a group of people in a certain way and look leading a church is difficult look leading a church is difficult look leading a church is difficult because basically every single week you because basically every single week you because basically every single week you arrive and you say to people look you arrive and you say to people look you arrive and you say to people look you need to die need to die need to die and they're like well I prefer not to and they're like well I prefer not to and they're like well I prefer not to and you say well unfortunately this book and you say well unfortunately this book and you say well unfortunately this book says we must yeah the Lord Jesus says we says we must yeah the Lord Jesus says we says we must yeah the Lord Jesus says we must and so if you want to do something must and so if you want to do something must and so if you want to do something that is that uh difficult frankly right that is that uh difficult frankly right that is that uh difficult frankly right like Bible talks about how difficult it like Bible talks about how difficult it like Bible talks about how difficult it is you know the straight and narrow path is you know the straight and narrow path is you know the straight and narrow path uh the Narrow Path if it was white it uh the Narrow Path if it was white it uh the Narrow Path if it was white it would be easy uh you need to be able to would be easy uh you need to be able to would be easy uh you need to be able to make values-based decisions communicate make values-based decisions communicate make values-based decisions communicate that and then at the very least you have that and then at the very least you have that and then at the very least you have your church and the rest of your staff your church and the rest of your staff your church and the rest of your staff being like okay I don't know if this is being like okay I don't know if this is being like okay I don't know if this is going to work out um by doing this annually or um by doing this annually or semi-annually just going over the values semi-annually just going over the values semi-annually just going over the values again or revisiting some and say hey our again or revisiting some and say hey our again or revisiting some and say hey our community this shape of our community community this shape of our community community this shape of our community has changed should we revisit this value has changed should we revisit this value has changed should we revisit this value and add some new language or what have and add some new language or what have and add some new language or what have you you you um and for us as a married couple that's um and for us as a married couple that's um and for us as a married couple that's been really helpful over the years just been really helpful over the years just been really helpful over the years just to Anchor ourselves again to that North to Anchor ourselves again to that North to Anchor ourselves again to that North Star remind ourselves of some things Star remind ourselves of some things Star remind ourselves of some things reaffirm some things and keep moving reaffirm some things and keep moving reaffirm some things and keep moving forward because those those vows serve forward because those those vows serve forward because those those vows serve as an affirmation of the values we have as an affirmation of the values we have as an affirmation of the values we have as as people as a married couple so yeah as as people as a married couple so yeah as as people as a own out you have to prioritize your own out you have to prioritize your own health this means your physical health health this means your physical health health this means your physical health in terms of the food and drink that in terms of the food and drink that in terms of the food and drink that you're putting in your body the amount you're putting in your body the amount you're putting in your body the amount of sleep that you're getting the amount of sleep that you're getting the amount of sleep that you're getting the amount of movement that you're getting it means of movement that you're getting it means of movement that you're getting it means your emotional health and the your emotional health and the your emotional health and the relationships that you're in and doing relationships that you're in and doing relationships that you're in and doing your very best to minimize stress your very best to minimize stress your very best to minimize stress minimize anxiety minimize burdens that minimize anxiety minimize burdens that minimize anxiety minimize burdens that you're carrying that Jesus doesn't want you're carrying that Jesus doesn't want you're carrying that Jesus doesn't want you to carry and then thirdly of course you to carry and then thirdly of course you to carry and then thirdly of course your spiritual health and this means your spiritual health and this means your spiritual health and this means being anchored to the Creator the one being anchored to the Creator the one being anchored to the Creator the one that inspires and you know gives breath that inspires and you know gives breath that inspires and you know gives breath to every single thing that you want to to every single thing that you want to to every single thing that you want to do in the world of ministry these are do in the world of ministry these are do in the world of ministry these are the types of things the reason these the types of things the reason these the types of things the reason these tips are so important important to me is
