long as that weakness or non- strength long as that weakness or non- strength long as that weakness or non- strength of his doesn't take away from what makes of his doesn't take away from what makes proponent of like double down on your strengths like this is what on your strengths like this is what on your strengths like this is what we're good at as a company this is what we're good at as a company this is what we're good at as a company this is what I'm good at individually this is what I I'm good at individually this is what I I'm good at individually this is what I excel at professionally we're just going excel at professionally we're just going excel at professionally we're just going to keep going at that and going at that to keep going at that and going at that to keep going at that and going at that and going at that and it took me the and going at that and it took me the and going at that and it took me the longest time to realize that I was longest time to realize that I was longest time to realize that I was neglecting some core competencies in neglecting some core competencies in neglecting some core competencies in areas that I was weak at and I didn't areas that I was weak at and I didn't areas that I was weak at and I didn't have to ever be good at those things but have to ever be good at those things but have to ever be good at those things but so long as I could achieve competency so long as I could achieve competency so long as I could achieve competency there it would actually complement and there it would actually complement and there it would actually complement and enhance my strengths not take away from enhance my strengths not take away from enhance my strengths not take away from it because that's what I was always worried about like if I'm spending too worried about like if I'm spending too much time on my weaknesses I I should be much time on my weaknesses I I should be much time on my weaknesses I I should be doubling down in my strengths one doubling down in my strengths one doubling down in my strengths one example of this was uh small talk and example of this was uh small talk and example of this was uh small talk and pleasantries I uh I I have this distaste pleasantries I uh I I have this distaste pleasantries I uh I I have this distaste for H niceties okay and so I can come for H niceties okay and so I can come for H niceties okay and so I can come off like a bit cold when we first meet off like a bit cold when we first meet off like a bit cold when we first meet because I'm like yeah like you know because I'm like yeah like you know because I'm like yeah like you know we're just kind of like putting on this we're just kind of like putting on this we're just kind of like putting on this doesn't feel real and I realized that doesn't feel real and I realized that doesn't feel real and I realized that hey you know hey you know hey you know like being a jerk it's just not aligned like being a jerk it's just not aligned like being a jerk it's just not aligned with what you want to achieve in life with what you want to achieve in life with what you want to achieve in life and I didn't think of it that way I was and I didn't think of it that way I was and I didn't think of it that way I was like no I'm just being my most authentic like no I'm just being my most authentic like no I'm just being my most authentic self like I don't want to be fake and I self like I don't want to be fake and I self like I don't want to be fake and I realized no that's a weakness that like realized no that's a weakness that like realized no that's a weakness that like is actually hindering you because you're is actually hindering you because you're is actually hindering you because you're not making a good first impression and not making a good first impression and not making a good first impression and if you could just find a way to be if you could just find a way to be if you could just find a way to be pleasant with people and still be pleasant with people and still be pleasant with people and still be authentic don't do it in a way that is authentic don't do it in a way that is authentic don't do it in a way that is in congruent with your personality and in congruent with your personality and in congruent with your personality and who you who you really are achieve core who you who you really are achieve core who you who you really are achieve core compet didn't see there and then you compet didn't see there and then you compet didn't see there and then you know be good at other things one more know be good at other things one more know be good at other things one more example of this is uh endurance so I example of this is uh endurance so I example of this is uh endurance so I used to have like what I called this used to have like what I called this used to have like what I called this creative window in the morning and it creative window in the morning and it creative window in the morning and it was like 5: to 8 a.m. and then I was was like 5: to 8 a.m. and then I was was like 5: to 8 a.m. and then I was basically creatively useless for the basically creatively useless for the basically creatively useless for the rest of the day and what I realized was rest of the day and what I realized was rest of the day and what I realized was like I was like this Sprinter that just like I was like this Sprinter that just like I was like this Sprinter that just had no endurance in like creativity and had no endurance in like creativity and had no endurance in like creativity and the reason was I was you know eating too the reason was I was you know eating too the reason was I was you know eating too much junk food not getting enough sleep much junk food not getting enough sleep much junk food not getting enough sleep not walking enough uh and not recovering not walking enough uh and not recovering not walking enough uh and not recovering from my workouts but I was like no I'm from my workouts but I was like no I'm from my workouts but I was like no I'm getting lots of protein I'm working out getting lots of protein I'm working out getting lots of protein I'm working out like I'm doing great but I was actually

like I'm doing great but I was actually like I'm doing great but I was actually not in good recovery whatsoever and so not in good recovery whatsoever and so not in good recovery whatsoever and so then I wasn't able to do what I do best then I wasn't able to do what I do best then I wasn't able to do what I do best for long periods of time and so suddenly for long periods of time and so suddenly for long periods of time and so suddenly my output was stunted artificially my output was stunted artificially my output was stunted artificially because I had this core competence it's because I had this core competence it's because I had this core competence it's like hey you need to recover from all like hey you need to recover from all like hey you need to recover from all these other things the Paradox is these other things the Paradox is these other things the Paradox is because I wasn't recovering I thought I because I wasn't recovering I thought I because I wasn't recovering I thought I was giving it my all like I'm I'm I'm was giving it my all like I'm I'm I'm was giving it my all like I'm I'm I'm leaving the tank empty I have nothing leaving the tank empty I have nothing leaving the tank empty I have nothing left to give and then you have like left to give and then you have like left to give and then you have like prolonged several months in a row and prolonged several months in a row and prolonged several months in a row and this is the problem with like anything this is the problem with like anything this is the problem with like anything health or Fitness related like you can't health or Fitness related like you can't health or Fitness related like you can't do a short test you can't do a 21 day 21 do a short test you can't do a 21 day 21 do a short test you can't do a 21 day 21 test it has to be 3 months or more you test it has to be 3 months or more you test it has to be 3 months or more you eat well you recover well you prioritize eat well you recover well you prioritize eat well you recover well you prioritize sleep you go on boring walks every day sleep you go on boring walks every day sleep you go on boring walks every day and suddenly you're like oh my tank is and suddenly you're like oh my tank is and suddenly you're like oh my tank is not depleting at the normal time it's not depleting at the normal time it's not depleting at the normal time it's extending longer and longer longer I'm extending longer and longer longer I'm extending longer and longer longer I'm not coming home and crashing now I'm not coming home and crashing now I'm not coming home and crashing now I'm able to be with my family and be a good able to be with my family and be a good able to be with my family and be a good dad core competency where did this first dad core competency where did this first dad core competency where did this first come up for you like where did you where come up for you like where did you where come up for you like where did you where did you first recognize in your own life did you first recognize in your own life did you first recognize in your own life like oh I've been investing too much like oh I've been investing too much like oh I've been investing too much concentrated energy into my area of concentrated energy into my area of concentrated energy into my area of strength and not um you know cultivating strength and not um you know cultivating strength and not um you know cultivating core competency in areas where I'm not core competency in areas where I'm not core competency in areas where I'm not as strong it was uh my business partners as strong it was uh my business partners as strong it was uh my business partners we were having one of our annual Summits we were having one of our annual Summits we were having one of our annual Summits and they were like hey why don't we try and they were like hey why don't we try and they were like hey why don't we try this new thing and I was like well we this new thing and I was like well we this new thing and I was like well we don't do that and they're like well at don't do that and they're like well at don't do that and they're like well at our old company we did and I was like our old company we did and I was like our old company we did and I was like well this is your new well this is your new well this is your new company and they're like well it worked

company and they're like well it worked company and they're like well it worked for us and I was like but you're here for us and I was like but you're here for us and I was like but you're here now and what they helped me realize was now and what they helped me realize was now and what they helped me realize was that okay just because we try something that okay just because we try something that okay just because we try something doesn't mean it has to detract because doesn't mean it has to detract because doesn't mean it has to detract because I've always pictured it as like okay we I've always pictured it as like okay we I've always pictured it as like okay we have limited resources and churches will have limited resources and churches will have limited resources and churches will resonate with this and there's something resonate with this and there's something resonate with this and there's something true here which is what makes it such a true here which is what makes it such a true here which is what makes it such a challenging thing and why these mistakes challenging thing and why these mistakes challenging thing and why these mistakes are made is because they're not like are made is because they're not like are made is because they're not like completely like obvious errors they're completely like obvious errors they're completely like obvious errors they're little nuanced differences that you little nuanced differences that you little nuanced differences that you could explain away in a rational manner could explain away in a rational manner could explain away in a rational manner that would be completely understandable that would be completely understandable that would be completely understandable to you and your business partners and to you and your business partners and to you and your business partners and anyone they're like we can try these anyone they're like we can try these anyone they're like we can try these things and it won't detract from what things and it won't detract from what things and it won't detract from what makes us who we are already and once I makes us who we are already and once I makes us who we are already and once I understood that I was able to come up understood that I was able to come up understood that I was able to come up with the Steph Curry analogy you know with the Steph Curry analogy you know with the Steph Curry analogy you know all I needed was a little Sports analogy all I needed was a little Sports analogy all I needed was a little Sports analogy because you know I'm actually not that because you know I'm actually not that because you know I'm actually not that smart and that was what helped uh click smart and that was what helped uh click smart and that was what helped uh click for me hey we can do these things keep for me hey we can do these things keep for me hey we can do these things keep doing doing these things and that will doing doing these things and that will doing doing these things and that will actually again enhance what we do best actually again enhance what we do best actually again enhance what we do best because right now it's taking away from because right now it's taking away from because right now it's taking away from it and and and that really is the Crux it and and and that really is the Crux it and and and that really is the Crux of it core competency just means you hit of it core competency just means you hit of it core competency just means you hit the point where your weakness is no the point where your weakness is no the point where your weakness is no longer a detraction from your strength I longer a detraction from your strength I longer a detraction from your strength I don't think it's a coincidence that this don't think it's a coincidence that this don't think it's a coincidence that this first came up for you in the context of first came up for you in the context of first came up for you in the context of like Teamwork because like when you like Teamwork because like when you like Teamwork because like when you think about Steph Curry if he is not think about Steph Curry if he is not think about Steph Curry if he is not competent in his defense as when he's competent in his defense as when he's competent in his defense as when he's got the ball in his hand and he's uh in got the ball in his hand and he's uh in got the ball in his hand and he's uh in the offensive court that that would not the offensive court that that would not the offensive court that that would not come up he's not a liability there but come up he's not a liability there but come up he's not a liability there but it's when the the ball is in the hands it's when the the ball is in the hands it's when the the ball is in the hands of the other team and he is now working
