they conducted services in a few and they conducted services in a few different places and took over a hotel different places and took over a hotel different places and took over a hotel ballroom for school for a bit and then ultimately landed in a theater then ultimately landed in a theater then ultimately landed in a theater where they they conducted services for where they they conducted services for where they they conducted services for about I guess about three or four years about I guess about three or four years about I guess about three or four years I mean it was around that John van Pei began pray van Pei began pray van Pei began pray you know the guy would lead us and you know the guy would lead us and you know the guy would lead us and direct us to some land we had a then that they they Hobby Lobby and and then that they they bought a piece of land forest they bought a piece of land forest they bought a piece of land forest they donated it to the church and we that'll be like man that's that that's that'll be like man that's that that's amazing that's incredible like you know amazing that's incredible like you know amazing that's incredible like you know wish that would happen to my church I do wish that would happen to my church I do wish that would happen to my church I do hear the humility in your voice and I hear the humility in your voice and I hear the humility in your voice and I know that's how you position you know know that's how you position you know know that's how you position you know yourself that you know it's not like hey yourself that you know it's not like hey yourself that you know it's not like hey look at us we've got this all figured look at us we've got this all figured look at us we've got this all figured out there's got to be some pain out there's got to be some pain out there's got to be some pain associated with that kind of growth you associated with that kind of growth you associated with that kind of growth you know going from you know 800 people to know going from you know 800 people to know going from you know 800 people to you know 26 27 hundred people in in a you know 26 27 hundred people in in a you know 26 27 hundred people in in a relatively short period of time you know relatively short period of time you know relatively short period of time you know what did that look like how was it that what did that look like how was it that what did that look like how was it that you've you know what are the lessons you've you know what are the lessons you've you know what are the lessons you've been learning through that it was you've been learning through that it was you've been learning through that it was very it's very scary you know you wake very it's very scary you know you wake very it's very scary you know you wake up every morning with just a realization up every morning with just a realization up every morning with just a realization that oh god help me help us today we that oh god help me help us today we that oh god help me help us today we absolutely depend on the Lord for absolutely depend on the Lord for absolutely depend on the Lord for everything that we do very quickly rich everything that we do very quickly rich everything that we do very quickly rich we became lids all of us became we became lids all of us became we became lids all of us became potential lids including our facilities potential lids including our facilities potential lids including our facilities our facilities that were designed to our facilities that were designed to our facilities that were designed to ultimately carry us 3 4 or 5 years into ultimately carry us 3 4 or 5 years into ultimately carry us 3 4 or 5 years into the future the future the future overnight I mean we had just moved into overnight I mean we had just moved into overnight I mean we had just moved into him overnight they already become a lit him overnight they already become a lit him overnight they already become a lit and so facilities were a lid our own and so facilities were a lid our own and so facilities were a lid our own ministry growth and development it was a ministry growth and development it was a ministry growth and development it was a potential lazy you know you have student potential lazy you know you have student potential lazy you know you have student ministry of about 70 and all the sudden ministry of about 70 and all the sudden ministry of about 70 and all the sudden now it's 150 you've got a kids ministry now it's 150 you've got a kids ministry now it's 150 you've got a kids ministry of 120 and now it's running 4 or 500 of 120 and now it's running 4 or 500 of 120 and now it's running 4 or 500 every single week and so overnight you every single week and so overnight you every single week and so overnight you have to develop systems and processes have to develop systems and processes have to develop systems and processes that you thought you'd have a little bit that you thought you'd have a little bit that you thought you'd have a little bit more time to move into so it was a crazy more time to move into so it was a crazy more time to move into so it was a crazy fun scary experience Wow can used that's fun scary experience Wow can used that's fun scary experience Wow can used that's amazing that's amazing amazing that's amazing amazing that's amazing now when you talk about you know the lid now when you talk about you know the lid now when you talk about you know the lid what is it that you've been able to do what is it that you've been able to do what is it that you've been able to do to try to lift that lid maybe with your to try to lift that lid maybe with your to try to lift that lid maybe with your own team or you know with caring for

own team or you know with caring for own team or you know with caring for folks well what have you been able to do folks well what have you been able to do folks well what have you been able to do on that front sure well we we kind of we on that front sure well we we kind of we on that front sure well we we kind of we identified six main areas that we really identified six main areas that we really identified six main areas that we really wanted to focus our attention on there's wanted to focus our attention on there's wanted to focus our attention on there's nothing real special or unique about nothing real special or unique about nothing real special or unique about them but I mean overnight we knew we're them but I mean overnight we knew we're them but I mean overnight we knew we're gonna have to do something with staff gonna have to do something with staff gonna have to do something with staff how are we going to handle staff how are how are we going to handle staff how are how are we going to handle staff how are we gonna hire staff and we just decided we gonna hire staff and we just decided we gonna hire staff and we just decided early on we're gonna break the rules early on we're gonna break the rules early on we're gonna break the rules when it comes to how we care for our when it comes to how we care for our when it comes to how we care for our staff you know we know a lot of churches staff you know we know a lot of churches staff you know we know a lot of churches where their staff members get off maybe where their staff members get off maybe where their staff members get off maybe one weekend a year typically but we said one weekend a year typically but we said one weekend a year typically but we said we're gonna break the rules and we're we're gonna break the rules and we're we're gonna break the rules and we're going to allow our our staff members our going to allow our our staff members our going to allow our our staff members our team members to get off six Sundays team members to get off six Sundays team members to get off six Sundays so we did that we allow our staff so we did that we allow our staff so we did that we allow our staff members to have a sabbatical for pastors members to have a sabbatical for pastors members to have a sabbatical for pastors after five years of serving we give out after five years of serving we give out after five years of serving we give out date night gift cards to our you know date night gift cards to our you know date night gift cards to our you know our full-time married staff members you our full-time married staff members you our full-time married staff members you know whenever we hit a target or a know whenever we hit a target or a know whenever we hit a target or a special mark or whatever we allow that special mark or whatever we allow that special mark or whatever we allow that we have special staff play and pray we have special staff play and pray we have special staff play and pray serve days where you know the fifth serve days where you know the fifth serve days where you know the fifth Tuesday of every month well we get Tuesday of every month well we get Tuesday of every month well we get together do either something fun or together do either something fun or together do either something fun or we'll go do something we'll serve we'll go do something we'll serve we'll go do something we'll serve together in a different component together in a different component together in a different component outside of our local church and then we outside of our local church and then we outside of our local church and then we have fifth fridays you know it's real have fifth fridays you know it's real have fifth fridays you know it's real big deal to our pastor that our our team big deal to our pastor that our our team big deal to our pastor that our our team stays relational one of the one of the stays relational one of the one of the stays relational one of the one of the big things that I - when I came here big things that I - when I came here big things that I - when I came here about a year and a half ago it was just about a year and a half ago it was just about a year and a half ago it was just that the the process for hiring here was that the the process for hiring here was that the the process for hiring here was just different than what I'd encountered just different than what I'd encountered just different than what I'd encountered anywhere else we we hire only from anywhere else we we hire only from anywhere else we we hire only from within for the for the most part and so within for the for the most part and so within for the for the most part and so we gives us an opportunity to really we gives us an opportunity to really we gives us an opportunity to really watch people who are already doing the watch people who are already doing the watch people who are already doing the work who were already carry the culture

work who were already carry the culture work who were already carry the culture of the ministry and they also have a of the ministry and they also have a of the ministry and they also have a built in relational equity - have you seen some made a few - have you seen some made a few - have you seen some differences you know what is it what's differences you know what is it what's differences you know what is it what's that what has shifted in the culture that what has shifted in the culture that what has shifted in the culture during that you know the last number of during that you know the last number of during that you know the last number of months maybe even just the time you've months maybe even just the time you've months maybe even just the time you've been there well I mean yeah I mean just been there well I mean yeah I mean just been there well I mean yeah I mean just the the staff was I mean we're working the the staff was I mean we're working the the staff was I mean we're working out we've added a Saturday night service out we've added a Saturday night service out we've added a Saturday night service and we have you know three Sunday and we have you know three Sunday and we have you know three Sunday morning services and an espanol service morning services and an espanol service morning services and an espanol service on Sunday and so our weekends are just on Sunday and so our weekends are just on Sunday and so our weekends are just well used to be a dedicated time for him well used to be a dedicated time for him well used to be a dedicated time for him maybe hanging out with family you know maybe hanging out with family you know maybe hanging out with family you know it could potentially be a time where it could potentially be a time where it could potentially be a time where you're ramping up for you know in every you're ramping up for you know in every you're ramping up for you know in every week so yeah I did become you know week so yeah I did become you know week so yeah I did become you know something that we saw immediately that something that we saw immediately that something that we saw immediately that we wanted to address but again it's a we wanted to address but again it's a we wanted to address but again it's a it's always been a real sensitive area it's always been a real sensitive area it's always been a real sensitive area for our pastor he's always wanted to for our pastor he's always wanted to for our pastor he's always wanted to make sure and protect the health and the make sure and protect the health and the make sure and protect the health and the life of our staff so very cool life of our staff so very cool life of our staff so very cool how did you care for all those people so how did you care for all those people so how did you care for all those people so all these people show up I know there's all these people show up I know there's all these people show up I know there's pastors that are listening in that are pastors that are listening in that are pastors that are listening in that are saying to go from you know 800 people to saying to go from you know 800 people to saying to go from you know 800 people to you know the number you're at now that's you know the number you're at now that's you know the number you're at now that's just a lot more problems that's a lot just a lot more problems that's a lot just a lot more problems that's a lot more people with a lot more issues how

2008 we're gonna be we're gonna back in 2008 we're gonna be we're gonna back in 2008 we're gonna be we're gonna be a small group driven ministry and so be a small group driven ministry and so be a small group driven ministry and so from the very beginning it was very from the very beginning it was very from the very beginning it was very intentional about forming the church intentional about forming the church intentional about forming the church around the building of small groups and around the building of small groups and around the building of small groups and so from the very beginning that's that's so from the very beginning that's that's so from the very beginning that's that's how we approached that whole the whole how we approached that whole the whole how we approached that whole the whole deal now we have 50 percent deal now we have 50 percent deal now we have 50 percent participation we're seeing in small participation we're seeing in small participation we're seeing in small groups you know we're trying to play groups you know we're trying to play groups you know we're trying to play catch-up but we have 70 or so small catch-up but we have 70 or so small catch-up but we have 70 or so small groups for our adults alone but we do groups for our adults alone but we do groups for our adults alone but we do small groups rich from from children the small groups rich from from children the small groups rich from from children the student ministries to adults I mean student ministries to adults I mean student ministries to adults I mean every single component of our ministry every single component of our ministry every single component of our ministry follows that vision that mission and follows that vision that mission and follows that vision that mission and it's a great way for again for kids and it's a great way for again for kids and it's a great way for again for kids and for students to build relationship with for students to build relationship with for students to build relationship with mentors and do that so that's where all mentors and do that so that's where all mentors and do that so that's where all of our pastoral care happens our small of our pastoral care happens our small of our pastoral care happens our small group leaders they take all the hospital group leaders they take all the hospital group leaders they take all the hospital visitation they do the ministry they do visitation they do the ministry they do visitation they do the ministry they do one-on-ones every single one of our one-on-ones every single one of our one-on-ones every single one of our small group leaders you know they have small group leaders you know they have small group leaders you know they have about a group of about 10 to 12 but they about a group of about 10 to 12 but they about a group of about 10 to 12 but they meet weekly as a group but then they meet weekly as a group but then they meet weekly as a group but then they also meet throughout the month also meet throughout the month also meet throughout the month individually with people and there's individually with people and there's individually with people and there's how's your spiritual life doing you know how's your spiritual life doing you know how's your spiritual life doing you know when we follow the we follow the the component how are you doing at work and so we have that you doing at work and so we have that you doing at work and so we have that kind of care not only for our small kind of care not only for our small kind of care not only for our small group leaders but also for our church

training for our small group leaders as well that takes place to help prepare well that takes place to help prepare well that takes place to help prepare them for those moments but but ya know them for those moments but but ya know them for those moments but but ya know we couldn't do it without our without we couldn't do it without our without we couldn't do it without our without the heavy weight and focus of small the heavy weight and focus of small the heavy weight and focus of small groups here of course absolutely now groups here of course absolutely now groups here of course absolutely now what are you doing to get people plugged what are you doing to get people plugged what are you doing to get people plugged into groups on the you know people that into groups on the you know people that into groups on the you know people that would as they're arriving what does that would as they're arriving what does that would as they're arriving what does that process look like change more quickly when the time comes and

department goals at the beginning of every year we ask every single staff every year we ask every single staff every year we ask every single staff member to turn in a personal development member to turn in a personal development member to turn in a personal development plan for the year it's not like what plan for the year it's not like what plan for the year it's not like what most leaders would probably do when most leaders would probably do when most leaders would probably do when they're setting goals for the beginning they're setting goals for the beginning they're setting goals for the beginning of the year this is how I want to be of the year this is how I want to be of the year this is how I want to be with my health at the end of the year with my health at the end of the year with my health at the end of the year this is what I see happen in my this is what I see happen in my this is what I see happen in my spiritual life this is what I want to spiritual life this is what I want to spiritual life this is what I want to see happen and in in my family and my see happen and in in my family and my see happen and in in my family and my marriage you know I really want to carve marriage you know I really want to carve marriage you know I really want to carve out for date night you know that kind of out for date night you know that kind of out for date night you know that kind of stuffs the big deal so if every single stuffs the big deal so if every single stuffs the big deal so if every single staff member has to turn that in and staff member has to turn that in
