and we arrived on planting training and we arrived on August 23rd 2008 to plant a church in August 23rd 2008 to plant a church in August 23rd 2008 to plant a church in the center of Dubai whose amazing is the center of Dubai whose amazing is the center of Dubai whose amazing is along the way we actually took out a map along the way we actually took out a map along the way we actually took out a map and you a square on the center of Dubai and you a square on the center of Dubai and you a square on the center of Dubai and pray that the Lord would allow us and pray that the Lord would allow us and pray that the Lord would allow us the privilege of planting a church there the privilege of planting a church there the privilege of planting a church there and about 18 months after we moved here and about 18 months after we moved here and about 18 months after we moved here we launched the church in the center of we launched the church in the center of we launched the church in the seven since I was planted and you know what we say and what most people say what we say and what most people say what we say and what most people say when they come in and visit Redeemer is when they come in and visit Redeemer is when they come in and visit Redeemer is that here's wow this is like a taste of that here's wow this is like a taste of that here's wow this is like a taste of heaven and what they mean is that heaven and what they mean is that heaven and what they mean is that there's people from it feels like every there's people from it feels like every there's people from it feels like every tribe in tongue it's the the most tribe in tongue it's the the most tribe in tongue it's the the most diverse church I've ever been a part of diverse church I've ever been a part of diverse church I've ever been a part of I think last time we counted we had over I think last time we counted we had over I think last time we counted we had over 50 different nations they were part of 50 different nations they were part of 50 different nations they were part of worship on a Friday morning so the Lord worship on a Friday morning so the Lord worship on a Friday morning so the Lord has grown and I think we're around a has grown and I think we're around a has grown and I think we're around a thousand people on a Friday as we gather thousand people on a Friday as we gather thousand people on a Friday as we gather but more than that more than the but more than that more than the but more than that more than the diversity more than the numbers it's diversity more than the numbers it's diversity more than the numbers it's just we've seen gospel growth taking just we've seen gospel growth taking just we've seen gospel growth taking place people from least reach people

gathered the major people groups and gathered the major people groups and major ethnic errs earth you know major ethnic errs earth you know major ethnic errs earth you know assembled here in Dubai it's a real assembled here in Dubai it's a real assembled here in Dubai it's a real melting pot 90% of the population of melting pot 90% of the population of melting pot 90% of the population of Dubai are expatriates meaning they don't Dubai are expatriates meaning they don't Dubai are expatriates meaning they don't have a local passport so the world was have a local passport so the world was have a local passport so the world was converging here which makes it a real converging here which makes it a real converging here which makes it a real strategic place to reach the world about strategic place to reach the world about strategic place to reach the world about Forbes you know secular magazine called Forbes you know secular magazine called Forbes you know secular magazine called Dubai the seventh most important city in Dubai the seventh most important city in Dubai the seventh most important city in the world I would say you could say the world I would say you could say the world I would say you could say similar things about it in a spiritual similar things about it in a spiritual similar things about it in a spiritual sense if you're trying to reach the sense if you're trying to reach the sense if you're trying to reach the nations and get a one place and reach nations and get a one place and reach nations and get a one place and reach the nation's and so our city is the nation's and so our city is the nation's and so our city is incredibly diverse which is a culture of incredibly diverse which is a culture of incredibly diverse which is a culture of its own you don't really you know have its own you don't really you know have its own you don't really you know have what maybe you had in northern India in what maybe you had in northern India in what maybe you had in northern India in Delhi were you know you had specific Delhi were you know you had specific Delhi were you know you had specific Indian cultures that maybe had a little Indian cultures that maybe had a little Indian cultures that maybe had a little more like one another than you would more like one another than you would more like one another than you would have if you by work some culture just have if you by work some culture just have if you by work some culture just drastically different and there's not drastically different and there's not drastically different and there's not really a way to minister to one culture really a way to minister to one culture really a way to minister to one culture so I feel like I'm taking baby steps so I feel like I'm taking baby steps so I feel like I'm taking baby steps eight years in and learning Filipino eight years in and learning Filipino eight years in and learning Filipino culture a Nigerian culture and Iranian culture a Nigerian culture and Iranian culture a Nigerian culture and Iranian culture and Egyptian culture learning culture and Egyptian culture learning culture and Egyptian culture learning little bits of it and then we as a little bits of it and then we as a little bits of it and then we as a church our culture of our own of you church our culture of our own of you church our culture of our own of you know 60 70 different nationalities all know 60 70 different nationalities all know 60 70 different nationalities all coming together I think we have 35 ish coming together I think we have 35 ish coming together I think we have 35 ish and membership itself and with no one and membership itself and with no one and membership itself and with no one people group totally dominant and so people group totally dominant and so people group totally dominant and so that's it's interesting that's it's interesting that's it's interesting you learn you learn about giving up your you learn you learn about giving up your you learn you learn about giving up your preferences you learn about you know preferences you learn about you know preferences you learn about you know things that other cultures do amazingly things that other cultures do amazingly things that other cultures do amazingly well and you glean from them and you well and you glean from them and you well and you glean from them and you learn kind of spiritually speaking about learn kind of spiritually speaking about learn kind of spiritually speaking about people's relationships of the Lord and people's relationships of the Lord and people's relationships of the Lord and kind of what they can teach you from kind of what they can teach you from kind of what they can teach you from their background that's amazing know their background that's amazing know their background that's amazing know what so you know when you started what

sharing the gospel of people and there was a real gospel of people and there was a real gospel of people and there was a real need and proved that there was a vacuum need and proved that there was a that were in Dubai and so one of the ways that we see and so one of the ways that we see and so one of the ways that we see that's important in doing that is that that's important in doing that is that that's important in doing that is that there's leaders for that mission so there's leaders for that mission so there's leaders for that mission so obviously we need everyone in the whole obviously we need everyone in the whole obviously we need everyone in the whole church to be engaged in the mission so church to be engaged in the mission so church to be engaged in the mission so we throughout the church we're trying to we throughout the church we're trying to we throughout the church we're trying to train up every member to be involved in train up every member to be involved in train up every member to be involved in evangelism to be involved in evangelism to be involved in evangelism to be involved in discipleship to know what it means to discipleship to know what it means to discipleship to know what it means to sit down with someone I go over sit down with someone I go over sit down with someone I go over scripture with them and encourage them scripture with them and encourage them scripture with them and encourage them whether they're a non-believer or a new whether they're a non-believer or a new whether they're a non-believer or a new believer or even a mature believer we believer or even a mature believer we believer or even a mature believer we want all of our members to be equipped want all of our members to be equipped want all of our members to be equipped to be on mission but then particularly I to be on mission but then particularly I to be on mission but then particularly I want it to be a context where leaders want it to be a context where leaders want it to be a context where leaders could be raised up and so in the early could be raised up and so in the early could be raised up and so in the early days of the church that was kind of raised up through the church that are raised up through the church that are raised up through the church for the church and we think that any for the church and we think that any for the church and we the which people can be raised up for the ministry and so what we're doing is ministry and so what we're doing is ministry and so what we're doing is combining some intentional theological combining intensive on the Holy Spirit it's in intensive on the Holy Spirit it's in intensive on the Holy Spirit it's in English teaching at the seminary level

learn about it and so we have a group of learn about it and so we have a group of learn about it and so we have a group of 16 students that's our year-long cohort 16 students that's our year-long cohort 16 students that's our year-long cohort they're taking ten classes this year they're taking ten classes this year they're taking ten classes this year that's a three year that's a three year that's a three year program we're hoping a few of those out program we're hoping a few of those out program we're hoping a few of those out of that group will become some church of that group will become some church of that group will become some church planners that are raised up purely from planners that are raised up purely from planners that are raised up purely from from here so so we really excited about from here so so we really excited about from here so so we really excited about it we we want to be a place again that it we we want to be a place again that it we we want to be a place again that guys are sent out particularly to plant guys are sent out particularly to plant guys are sent out particularly to plant more churches and we think that that more churches and we think what we innovative I'm all for that but what we found is perhaps the most innovative found is perhaps the most innovative found is perhaps the most innovative thing we can do is actually to teach where we want to be entertained you know where we want to be entertained you know where we want to be entertained and there's lots of ways we can do that and there's lots of ways we can do that and
