town called Bristo went to school at University of Oklahoma so uh we are at University of Oklahoma so uh we are at University of Oklahoma so uh we are the only team this year in the college the only team this year in the college the only team this year in the college athletic world that got two teams into athletic world that got two teams into athletic world that got two teams into the into the final four now we didn't do the into the final four now we didn't do the into the final four now we didn't do we didn't do much once we got there but we didn't do much once we got there but we didn't do much once we got there but football and basketball we both had football and basketball we both had football and basketball we both had amazing teams in the final four so you amazing teams in the final four so you amazing teams in the final four so you know like Hey we're this little Outpost know like Hey we're this little Outpost know like Hey we're this little Outpost in the middle of in the middle of in the middle of in the middle of in the middle of in the middle of nowhere University of Oklahoma that's nowhere University of Oklahoma that's nowhere University of Oklahoma that's doing great things um nice but I I I was doing great things um nice but I I I was doing great things um nice but I I I was a history major in college and which is a history major in college and which is a history major in college and which is pretty much worthless well yeah I was pretty much worthless well yeah I was pretty much worthless well yeah I was gonna say you use that every day in your gonna say you use that every day in your gonna say you use that every day in your in your in your yeah yeah I think I was in your in your yeah yeah I think I was in your in your yeah yeah I think I was just anti everything else so I just just anti everything else so I just just anti everything else so I just decided that I could you know I liked decided that I could you know I liked decided that I could you know I liked history but um I I graduated thought I history but um I I graduated thought I history but um I I graduated thought I was going to go to law school and then was going to go to law school and then was going to go to law school and then went and spent Five Years on a on a

went and spent Five Years on a on a went and spent Five Years on a on a ranch in Colorado and and that was like ranch in Colorado and and that was like ranch in Colorado and and that was like this formative years of of uh work ethic this formative years of of uh work ethic this formative years of of uh work ethic and work Theology and and getting you and work Theology and and getting you and work Theology and and getting you know understanding what the you know the know understanding what the you know the know understanding what the you know the idea of of what does it mean to actually idea of of what does it mean to actually idea of of what does it mean to actually like be in the middle of an organization like be in the middle of an organization like be in the middle of an organization and and learn how to lead and deal with and and learn how to lead and deal with and and learn how to lead and deal with people uh but it was a total like 90 Dee people uh but it was a total like 90 Dee people uh but it was a total like 90 Dee turn from what I thought got had sort of turn from what I thought got had sort of turn from what I thought got had sort of pled on my life which was to be in pled on my life which was to be in pled on my life which was to be in politics and to you know to sort of uh politics and to you know to sort of uh politics and to you know to sort of uh be in the middle of that of that world be in the middle of that of that world be in the middle of that of that world of of culture and um and so after of of culture and um and so after of of culture and um and so after working on this Ranch and riding horses working on this Ranch and riding horses working on this Ranch and riding horses and wearing Wranglers and playing and wearing Wranglers and playing and wearing Wranglers and playing playing Cowboy truly like I was a cowboy playing Cowboy truly like I was a cowboy playing Cowboy truly like I was a cowboy yes I I ended up with connecting with a yes I I ended up with connecting with a yes I I ended up with connecting with a couple of guys who were who had a small couple of guys who were who had a small couple of guys who were who had a small consulting firm and went and joined up consulting firm and went and joined up consulting firm and went and joined up with them I knew nothing about with them I knew nothing about with them I knew nothing about Consulting knew nothing about management Consulting knew nothing about management Consulting knew nothing about management stuff I was a history major and then stuff I was a history major and then stuff I was a history major and then worked on a ranch riding horses right worked on a ranch riding horses right worked on a ranch riding horses right there's a logical connection there there's a logical connection there there's a logical connection there between that exactly yeah and one of our between that exactly yeah and one of our between that exactly yeah and one of our clients at the time this was like you clients at the time this was like you clients at the time this was like you know the late 90s one of our clients was know the late 90s one of our clients was know the late 90s one of our clients was an organization called enjoy which if an organization called enjoy which if an organization called enjoy which if anybody follows John Maxwell they know anybody follows John Maxwell they know anybody follows John Maxwell they know that that was you know his original that that was you know his original that that was you know his original organization and so I got involved with organization and so I got involved with organization and so I got involved with with John and just the more I got with John and just the more I got with John and just the more I got connected into that world first as a connected into that world first as a connected into that world first as a consultant then second as a you know consultant then second as a you know consultant then second as a you know sort of uh much more involved free agent sort of uh much more involved free agent sort of uh much more involved free agent and then third as a full-time employee and then third as a full-time employee and then third as a full-time employee um I got connected with Catalyst and um I got connected with Catalyst and um I got connected with Catalyst and with all of the events and somal cast with all of the events and somal cast with all of the events and somal cast and Leadership stuff John was doing and

and Leadership stuff John was doing and and Leadership stuff John was doing and so really my teeth have been cut for the so really my teeth have been cut for the so really my teeth have been cut for the last 16 years 17 years on being around last 16 years 17 years on being around last 16 years 17 years on being around the organization that John created and the organization that John created and the organization that John created and there's been several manifestations of there's been several manifestations of there's been several manifestations of that and there's been lots of uh that and there's been lots of uh that and there's been lots of uh different you know expressions of it but different you know expressions of it but different you know expressions of it but um I feel like my you know my leadership um I feel like my you know my leadership um I feel like my you know my leadership Heritage and the things I've learned Heritage and the things I've learned Heritage and the things I've learned about leadership have been really about leadership have been really about leadership have been really swimming in the in the pool and being in swimming in the in the pool and being in swimming in the in the pool and being in the slipstream of John Maxwell and so the slipstream of John Maxwell and so the slipstream of John Maxwell and so obviously Catalyst for me was a huge obviously Catalyst for me was a huge obviously Catalyst for me was a huge part of that story and uh the last year part of that story and uh the last year part of that story and uh the last year and a half we can talk more about this and a half we can talk more about this and a half we can talk more about this but you know I stepped out of out of but you know I stepped out of out of but you know I stepped out of out of leading Catalyst and now uh now I'm I'm leading Catalyst and now uh now I'm I'm leading Catalyst and now uh now I'm I'm basically unemployed that's what I tell basically unemployed that's what I tell basically unemployed that's what I tell people I don't really have a job um people I don't really have a job um people I don't really have a job um although I I did you know I have my own although I I did you know I have my own although I I did you know I have my own little thing and I do a lot of advising little thing and I do a lot of advising little thing and I do a lot of advising and Consulting and uh it's great you and Consulting and uh it's great you and Consulting and uh it's great you know Atlanta's home Passion City Church know Atlanta's home Passion City Church know Atlanta's home Passion City Church is is home church so I spent a lot of is is home church so I spent a lot of is is home church so I spent a lot of time and energy and bandwidth and uh a time and energy and bandwidth and uh a time and energy and bandwidth and uh a lot of my sort of emotional and lot of my sort of emotional and lot of my sort of emotional and spiritual capital is invested well a lot spiritual capital is invested well a lot spiritual capital is invested well a lot of my spiritual capital is invested in of my spiritual capital is invested in of my spiritual capital is invested in the house of Passion City Church and so the house of Passion City Church and so the house of Passion City Church and so that's a that's you know obviously a that's a that's you know obviously a that's a that's you know obviously a really small movement uh the passion really small movement uh the passion really small movement uh the passion conferences and passion you know they're conferences and passion you know they're conferences and passion you know they're not doing not doing not doing anything so I get you know I get to play anything so I get you know I get to play anything so I get you know I get to play in lots of different uh sand boxes I'm in lots of different uh sand boxes I'm in lots of different uh sand boxes I'm not married I'm the most eligible not married I'm the most eligible not married I'm the most eligible bachelor in all of Christianity nice bachelor in all of Christianity nice bachelor in all of Christianity nice great so check out Brad lin.com if great so check out Brad lin.com if great so check out Brad lin.com if you're you're interested I feel like I you're you're interested I feel like I you're you're interested I feel like I should be like the spokesperson for should be like the spokesperson for should be like the spokesperson for e-harmony e-harmony e-harmony you know like I'm that guy you're that

given me a never happened for me so it's given me a never happened for me so it's given me a lot of opportunities to do other things lot of opportunities to do other things lot of opportunities to do other things in life but uh yeah that's that's that's in life but uh yeah that's that's that's in life but uh yeah that's that's that's my reader dis version no I really my reader dis version no I really my reader dis version no I really appreciate that Brad I you know I as appreciate that Brad I you know I as appreciate that Brad I you know I as someone who's benefited you know before someone guy you're the know and you're the guy you're the person that attends it I was like oh I person that attends it I was like oh I person that attends it I was like oh I think that's a compliment you know think that's a compliment you know think that's a compliment you know you're you're the poster boy I know I you're you're the poster boy I know I you're you're the poster boy I know I was like oh wow okay I I I don't know if was like oh wow okay I I I don't know if was like oh wow okay I I I don't know if that's well you probably had your cool that's well you probably had your cool that's well you probably had your cool bag you you know you that was you know bag you you know you that was you know bag you you know you that was you know some thatd or whatever yeah had a triple some thatd or whatever yeah had a triple some thatd or whatever yeah had a triple bottom line cause tied to it and you had bottom line cause tied to it and you had bottom line cause tied to it and you had your you know you had your hipster

bunch of you know and still really do a bunch of you know and still really do a bunch of that um work which is great and you know that um work which is great and you know that um work which is great and you know a lot of people that listen in uh we're a lot of people that listen in uh we're a lot of people that listen in uh we're consumers of those those kinds of consumers of those those kinds of consumers of those those kinds of experiences as someone that leads those experiences as someone that leads those experiences as someone that leads those type of events what would you say are type of events what would you say are type of events what would you say are some best practices of kind of getting some best practices of kind of getting some best practices of kind of getting the most out of them you know we invest the most out of them you know we invest the most out of them you know we invest a lot of time F energy money uh to go to a lot of time F energy money uh to go to a lot of time F energy money uh to go to these kind of things how do we you know these kind of things how do we you know these kind of things how do we you know extract the most out of them for our extract the most out of them for our extract the most out of them for our ministry and for us personally great ministry and for us personally great ministry and for us personally great question F first would be this yeah go question F first would be this yeah go question F first would be this yeah go go with go with your team and I don't I go with go with your team and I don't I go with go with your team and I don't I don't say that now um as a card carrying don't say that now um as a card carrying don't say that now um as a card carrying Catalyst person that's trying to get Catalyst person that's trying to get Catalyst person that's trying to get more registrations I I truly say that as more registrations I I truly say that as more registrations I I truly say that as a as a as a you know somebody who a as a as a you know somebody who a as a as a you know somebody who produced and now consumes conferences produced and now consumes conferences produced and now consumes conferences like the best way to experience it is like the best way to experience it is like the best way to experience it is with other people and uh your team the with other people and uh your team the with other people and uh your team the the shared experience many times is what the shared experience many times is what the shared experience many times is what you bring back that has the most value you bring back that has the most value you bring back that has the most value and is the most memorable most people and is the most memorable most people and is the most memorable most people don't remember like who spoke or you don't remember like who spoke or you don't remember like who spoke or you know what what thing happened but they know what what thing happened but they know what what thing happened but they do remember the conversations that's do remember the conversations that's do remember the conversations that's very true that are occurring in the in very true that are occurring in the in very true that are occurring in the in the in the van or you know in the rental

the in the van or you know in the rental the in the van or you know in the rental car or on the plane ride back or at car or on the plane ride back or at car or on the plane ride back or at dinner that night so that one's huge um dinner that night so that one's huge um dinner that night so that one's huge um the second one would be would be figure the second one would be would be figure the second one would be would be figure out like who have a have a list going out like who have a have a list going out like who have a have a list going into going into the event or conference into going into the event or conference into going into the event or conference or gathering of who do you want to meet or gathering of who do you want to meet or gathering of who do you want to meet and that could be everybody from I want and that could be everybody from I want and that could be everybody from I want to meet you know that speaker or I want to meet you know that speaker or I want to meet you know that speaker or I want meet this person from this church or meet this person from this church or meet this person from this church or whatever or the other church I want to whatever or the other church I want to whatever or the other church I want to meet that other executive Pastor I want meet that other executive Pastor I want meet that other executive Pastor I want to meet that worship leader and to meet that worship leader and to meet that worship leader and sometimes it's um sometimes we go into sometimes it's um sometimes we go into sometimes it's um sometimes we go into it going I just want to meet everybody it going I just want to meet everybody it going I just want to meet everybody and then we meet nobody because right and then we meet nobody because right and then we meet nobody because right because we don't we didn't really have because we don't we didn't really have because we don't we didn't really have like a set sense of what would what like a set sense of what would what like a set sense of what would what would success look like so figure out would success look like so figure out would success look like so figure out who you want to meet um and then um look who you want to meet um and then um look who you want to meet um and then um look for for for opportunities to to build community and opportunities to to build community and opportunities to to build community and what I mean by that is is is find those what I mean by that is is is find those what I mean by that is is is find those ways that you're both adding value to ways that you're both adding value to ways that you're both adding value to other people yep as well as building other people yep as well as building other people yep as well as building your own infrastructure and you know your own infrastructure and you know your own infrastructure and you know that could be simply walking as you said that could be simply walking as you said that could be simply walking as you said you were walking around looking at the you were walking around looking at the you were walking around looking at the booths and yeah organizations there well booths and yeah organizations there well booths and yeah organizations there well like don't just walk around and look at like don't just walk around and look at like don't just walk around and look at those like actually have a yeah talk those like actually have a yeah talk those like actually have a yeah talk with them uh they are so hungry to with them uh they are so hungry to with them uh they are so hungry to actually connect with people um and i' actually connect with people um and i' actually connect with people um and i' I've I've talked to people who said yeah I've I've talked to people who said yeah I've I've talked to people who said yeah like I talked to that publisher that was like I talked to that publisher that was like I talked to that publisher that was at catalyst at their booth and they at catalyst at their booth and they at catalyst at their booth and they connected me with an editor and now a connected me with an editor and now a connected me with an editor and now a sudden I got a book deal right right sudden I got a book deal right right sudden I got a book deal right right because I was just walking around like because I was just walking around like because I was just walking around like right paying attention to people who are right paying attention to people who are right paying attention to people who are were there and what things like Catalyst

when I launched that and um I look now when I launched that and um I look now completely embarrassed a guy early in completely embarrassed a guy early in completely embarrassed a guy early in the 40s and think I would never let a the 40s and think I would never let a the 40s and think I would never let a campus pastor at 27 and and and there's campus pastor at 27 and and and there's campus pastor at 27 and and and there's a part of me that's like gosh that's a part of me that's like gosh that's a part of me that's like gosh that's terrible right and we I have to and terrible right and we I have to and terrible right and we I have to and obviously I'm using a bit of hyperbole obviously I'm using a bit of hyperbole obviously I'm using a bit of hyperbole there but actively actually just even there but actively actually just even there but actively actually just even yesterday was engaged in a conversation yesterday was engaged in a conversation yesterday was engaged in a conversation in our environment our church literally in our environment our church literally in our environment our church literally started as a young adult Bible study so started as a young adult Bible study so started as a young adult Bible study so we and what has happened is over the we and what has happened is over the we and what has happened is over the years we grew from a dozen people at years we grew from a dozen people at years we grew from a dozen people at that young adult Bible study we like that young adult Bible study we like that young adult Bible study we like 3,500 people today and but what's 3,500 people today and but what's 3,500 people today and but what's happened is we've just continued to get happened is we've just continued to get happened is we've just continued to get older um and we have to now I think a older um and we have to now I think a older um and we have to now I think a part of our challenge is to say how do part of our challenge is to say how do part of our challenge is to say how do we release to that next Generation how we release to that next Generation how we release to that next Generation how do we hand off um and not become you do we hand off um and not become you do we hand off um and not become you know 10 years from now a bunch of guys know 10 years from now a bunch of guys know 10 years from now a bunch of guys in their 50s that look around and say in their 50s that look around and say in their 50s that look around and say where are all the 20ss where are all you where are all the 20ss where are all you where are all the 20ss where are all you know which so many churches find know which so many churches find know which so many churches find themselves in um and so you know I think themselves in um and so you know I think themselves in um and so you know I think the fact that you you've done that um to the fact that you you've done that um to the fact that you you've done that um to me is just super you know you know me is just super you know you know me is just super you know you know humbling so that was is kind of the the humbling so that was is kind of the the humbling so that was is kind of the the at least the emotional you know kind of at least the emotional you know kind of at least the emotional you know kind of tenor that that H3 was written in um why tenor that that H3 was written in um why tenor that that H3 was written in um why don't you give us kind of a sense of don't you give us kind of a sense of don't you give us kind of a sense of what that you know that books about um what that you know that books about um what that you know that books about um and you know why people should should be and you know why people should should be and you know why people should should be reading it yeah thank you um well and reading it yeah thank you um well and reading it yeah thank you um well and just just to put a bow on on what we just just to put a bow on on what we just just to put a bow on on what we were just talking about yeah what I'm were just talking about yeah what I'm were just talking about yeah what I'm not saying rich and for everybody out not saying rich and for everybody out not saying rich and for everybody out there who's hearing this going well wait there who's hearing this going well wait there who's hearing this going well wait does this apply to me I I'm not saying does this apply to me I I'm not saying does this apply to me I I'm not saying that that applies to everybody yeah that that applies to everybody yeah that that applies to everybody yeah right um it doesn't mean you know I've right um it doesn't mean you know I've right um it doesn't mean you know I've seen lots of leaders who they're 30 40 seen lots of leaders who they're 30 40 seen lots of leaders who they're 30 40 years in to the same season in the same

years in to the same season in the same years in to the same season in the same role in the same title the same position role in the same title the same position role in the same title the same position and they're crushing it and they're crushing it and they're crushing it um but it does mean this that every um but it does mean this that every um but it does mean this that every level of your level of your level of your organization every leader at every level organization every leader at every level organization every leader at every level in every organization Church nonprofit in every organization Church nonprofit in every organization Church nonprofit business you part of your role is to be business you part of your role is to be business you part of your role is to be looking at your current assignment looking at your current assignment looking at your current assignment saying man do I need to like move on and saying man do I need to like move on and saying man do I need to like move on and step out of the way because it is part step out of the way because it is part step out of the way because it is part of your legacy and part of your of your legacy and part of your of your legacy and part of your stewardship as a leader to replace stewardship as a leader to replace stewardship as a leader to replace yourself yes and every at every level yourself yes and every at every level yourself yes and every at every level not just when you're at the top like we not just when you're at the top like we not just when you're at the top like we think it's only at the top it's at every think it's only at the top it's at every think it's only at the top it's at every level you're replacing yourself level you're replacing yourself level you're replacing yourself including the top mhm and too many times including the top mhm and too many times including the top mhm and too many times leaders at the top they they get on the leaders at the top they they get on the leaders at the top they they get on the top of the mountain and they start top of the mountain and they start top of the mountain and they start getting fat right right because there's getting fat right right because there's getting fat right right because there's nothing else to climb it's like I'm here nothing else to climb it's like I'm here nothing else to climb it's like I'm here I'm at the top of Everest man I'm gonna I'm at the top of Everest man I'm gonna I'm at the top of Everest man I'm gonna take a smoke break yes and all of a take a smoke break yes and all of a take a smoke break yes and all of a sudden you're there for 10 or 15 years sudden you're there for 10 or 15 years sudden you're there for 10 or 15 years and everybody is clim trying to climb up and everybody is clim trying to climb up and everybody is clim trying to climb up and they're going you're in the way and they're going you're in the way and they're going you're in the way right and so anyway um to your question right and so anyway um to your question right and so anyway um to your question um you know for for me like the the um you know for for me like the the um you know for for me like the the premise of H3 three is that I did get to premise of H3 three is that I did get to premise of H3 three is that I did get to a place in my leadership where I had to a place in my leadership where I had to a place in my leadership where I had to I had to recalibrate a little bit for I had to recalibrate a little bit for I had to recalibrate a little bit for the next 20 years 30 years of my journey the next 20 years 30 years of my journey the next 20 years 30 years of my journey and say what is it let me let me just and say what is it let me let me just and say what is it let me let me just redefine and make sure I'm clear on what redefine and make sure I'm clear on what redefine and make sure I'm clear on what I would say is my leadership Mantra and I would say is my leadership Mantra and I would say is my leadership Mantra and H3 is is humble hungry hustle that's the H3 is is humble hungry hustle that's the H3 is is humble hungry hustle that's the three hes that's been my leadership three hes that's been my leadership three hes that's been my leadership Mantra since really since I was in my Mantra since really since I was in my Mantra since really since I was in my 20s I didn't know what to call it right 20s I didn't know what to call it right 20s I didn't know what to call it right you know the other people have those
