volunteers are man are we going to make it through it our revenue going to make it through it our revenue going to make it through it our revenue is down U man it's a tough summer is down U man it's a tough summer is down U man it's a tough summer already and I can identify with that already and I can identify with that already and I can identify with that after having been in Ministry for years after having been in Ministry for years after having been in Ministry for years I know that there's this real tendency I know that there's this real tendency I know that there's this real tendency in the summertime to go almost in in the summertime to go almost in in the summertime to go almost in Retreat mode where it's like gosh we're Retreat mode where it's like gosh we're Retreat mode where it's like gosh we're just kind of buckle down the hatches and just kind of buckle down the hatches and just kind of buckle down the hatches and see you know maybe we can just survive see you know arrive every summer you know this people arrive every summer you know this is a great chance for you to kind of is a great chance for you to kind of is a great chance for you to kind of tweak that experience that kind of front tweak that experience that kind of front tweak that experience that kind of front door experience you know maybe you could door experience you know maybe you could door experience you know maybe you could look at doing a road trip this summer look at doing a road trip this summer look at doing a road trip this summer that's a great way to get your leaders that's a great way to get your leaders that's a great way to get your leaders out of just you know their you know the out of just you know their you know the out of just you know their you know the kind of normal week in weekend week in kind of normal week in weekend week in kind of normal week in weekend week in week out routine uh jump in the car and week out routine uh jump in the car and week out routine uh jump in the car and go visit another church in fact I'm go visit another church in fact I'm go visit another church in fact I'm planning one in a couple weeks going to planning one in a couple weeks going to planning one in a couple weeks going to visit take some leaders and we're going visit take some leaders and we're going visit take some leaders and we're going to go it's actually a church I've been to go it's actually a church I've been to go it's actually a church I've been to before but I want to expose them to to before but I want to expose them to to before but I want to expose them to that and you know there's a couple

that and you know there's a couple that and you know there's a couple things when we come to church learning things when we come to church learning things when we come to church learning trips that come back to me time and time trips that come back to me time and time trips that come back to me time and time again particularly when we think about again particularly when we think about again particularly when we think about how do we increase the guest service the how do we increase the guest service the how do we increase the guest service the customer service side of what we do at customer service side of what we do at customer service side of what we do at at our church at our churches the reason at our church at our churches the reason at our church at our churches the reason why we want to increase that quality the why we want to increase that quality the why we want to increase that quality the reason why it's good at this time of reason why it's good at this time of reason why it's good at this time of year is summer is one of those times year is summer is one of those times year is summer is one of those times that yes you do have slightly smaller that yes you do have slightly smaller that yes you do have slightly smaller crowds so why not use that time to work crowds so why not use that time to work crowds so why not use that time to work with your guest people to create and with your guest people to create and with your guest people to create and craft a better experience use this time craft a better experience use this time craft a better experience use this time of year when things are a little lighter of year when things are a little lighter of year when things are a little lighter uh to kind of tweak some stuff to maybe uh to kind of tweak some stuff to maybe uh to kind of tweak some stuff to maybe change up some signage get things better change up some signage get things better change up some signage get things better so when those people come back in the so when those people come back in the so when those people come back in the fall uh you'll have a great experience fall uh you'll have a great experience fall uh you'll have a great experience and so you know when you head out to go and so you know when you head out to go and so you know when you head out to go and visit another church make sure you and visit another church make sure you and visit another church make sure you have a purpose in mind so if you're have a purpose in mind so if you're have a purpose in mind so if you're going to go visit a church and you want going to go visit a church and you want going to go visit a church and you want to improve your customer service you to improve your customer service you to improve your customer service you know the kind of guest service know the kind of guest service know the kind of guest service experience pick a church that you experience pick a church that you experience pick a church that you believe does a great job on that and believe does a great job on that and believe does a great job on that and then take your team and really prep them then take your team and really prep them then take your team and really prep them ahead of time and say hey that's what ahead of time and say hey that's what ahead of time and say hey that's what we're going to be looking to do this we're going to be looking to do this we're going to be looking to do this summer uh we're going to go and we're summer uh we're going to go and we're summer uh we're going to go and we're going to visit these guys and we going to visit these guys and we going to visit these guys and we particularly want to focus on their particularly want to focus on their particularly want to focus on their guest service side uh of the equation so guest service side uh of the equation so guest service side uh of the equation so we can add kind of wow experiences you we can add kind of wow experiences you we can add kind of wow experiences you know when you get there don't bother know when you get there don't bother know when you get there don't bother asking for the senior pastor you can asking for the senior pastor you can asking for the senior pastor you can talk with them ahead of time but they're talk with them ahead of time but they're talk with them ahead of time but they're super busy on that day the lead Pastor super busy on that day the lead Pastor super busy on that day the lead Pastor um you know they're preaching so you um you know they're preaching so you um you know they're preaching so you know focus on some of the other people know focus on some of the other people know focus on some of the other people because to be honest a lot of those because to be honest a lot of those because to be honest a lot of those other folks volunteers and staff will other folks volunteers and staff will other folks volunteers and staff will give you all kinds of time effort energy give you all kinds of time effort energy give you all kinds of time effort energy for you to learn uh because they would for you to learn uh because they would for you to learn uh because they would love to share what's happening uh at love to share what's happening uh at love to share what's happening uh at their Church you know one of the things their Church you know one of the things their Church you know one of the things I've seen when people go and visit other I've seen when people go and visit other I've seen when people go and visit other churches is there's these two emotional churches is there's these two emotional churches is there's these two emotional extremes on one side they'll go to a

extremes on one side they'll go to a extremes on one side they'll go to a church and they'll be like hey this is church and they'll be like hey this is church and they'll be like hey this is exactly like ours and you know the exactly like ours and you know the exactly like ours and you know the reality of it was if it was exactly like reality of it was if it was exactly like reality of it was if it was exactly like yours your church would probably be as yours your church would probably be as yours your church would probably be as big and thriving as this church is that big and thriving as this church is that big and thriving as this church is that you're visiting um so avoid that extreme you're visiting um so avoid that extreme you're visiting um so avoid that extreme The Other Extreme is like oh there's no The Other Extreme is like oh there's no The Other Extreme is like oh there's no way we could ever do that you know the way we could ever do that you know the way we could ever do that you know the reality of it is like my dad used to say reality of it is like my dad used to say reality of it is like my dad used to say you know they put their pants on one leg you know they put their pants on one leg you know they put their pants on one leg at a time too this the all the churches at a time too this the all the churches at a time too this the all the churches that you'd go visit even some of the that you'd go visit even some of the that you'd go visit even some of the largest churches that I've visited in largest churches that I've visited in largest churches that I've visited in the country the at the end of the day the country the at the end of the day the country the at the end of the day the leaders are not that much different the leaders are not that much different the leaders are not that much different than you and I they're just normal than you and I they're just normal than you and I they're just normal people who are making a difference in people who are making a difference in people who are making a difference in their community and so avoid those their community and so avoid those their community and so avoid those emotional extremes when you uh show up emotional extremes when you uh show up emotional extremes when you uh show up make sure you respect the time as well make sure you respect the time as well make sure you respect the time as well um of the church leaders that you drop um of the church leaders that you drop um of the church leaders that you drop in on um you know try to cut your time in on um you know try to cut your time in on um you know try to cut your time and your discussion short rather than and your discussion short rather than and your discussion short rather than long they've got lots of things going on long they've got lots of things going on long they've got lots of things going on in their world um try to you know Focus in their world um try to you know Focus in their world um try to you know Focus the conversation make sure you've the conversation make sure you've the conversation make sure you've planned ahead of time so you've got planned ahead of time so you've got planned ahead of time so you've got questions you can drop on them and you questions you can drop on them and you questions you can drop on them and you understand you know what it is you're understand you know what it is you're understand you know what it is you're trying to get out of the conversation trying to get out of the conversation trying to get out of the conversation and then move on cuz they've got other and then move on cuz they've got other and then move on cuz they've got other things to do they've got a church they things to do they've got a church they things to do they've got a church they uh need to um to lead a couple other uh need to um to lead a couple other uh need to um to lead a couple other things just quick tips um you can often things just quick tips um you can often things just quick tips um you can often get more interaction from volunteers get more interaction from volunteers get more interaction from volunteers than you can from staff at churches when than you can from staff at churches when than you can from staff at churches when you go and visit them volunteers love to you go and visit them volunteers love to you go and visit them volunteers love to show you around again when I visited show you around again when I visited show you around again when I visited some of the largest churches in the some of the largest churches in the some of the largest churches in the country I get some of my best insights country I get some of my best insights country I get some of my best insights when I actually interact with volunteers when I actually interact with volunteers when I actually interact with volunteers rather than uh with staff please please rather than uh with staff please please rather than uh with staff please please please take time to encourage staff make please take time to encourage staff make please take time to encourage staff make and volunteers tell them what's great and volunteers tell them what's great and volunteers tell them what's great about their church tell them why it is about their church tell them why it is about their church tell them why it is that you've wanted to come and learn uh that you've wanted to come and learn uh that you've wanted to come and learn uh from them tell them why it is that from them tell them why it is that from them tell them why it is that they've uh you know they've kind of they've uh you know they've kind of they've uh you know they've kind of bubbled up on your radar so uh and then
