Um I was a big uh fan of reading books and writing when I was reading books and writing when I was reading books and writing when I was younger and decided to go to the younger and decided to go to the younger and decided to go to the University of Houston to study print University of Houston to study print University of Houston to study print journalism and uh become a writer. I wanted to be um a magazine writer, work wanted to be um a magazine writer, work wanted to be um a magazine writer, work for Newsweek or Time and uh that's how I for Newsweek or Time and uh that's how I for Newsweek or Time and uh that's how I got started. got started. got started. >> Okay, very cool. And um for me, being able to watch um And um for me, being able to watch um And um for me, being able to watch um the Mundial with my father in 1986 and the Mundial with my father in 1986 and the Mundial with my father in 1986 and and watch Argentina play was something and watch Argentina play was something and watch Argentina play was something that was uh pivotal in in my decision to that was uh pivotal in in my decision to that was uh pivotal in in my decision to enjoy soccer for the rest of my life. I lost my father when I was 3 years old lost my father when I was 3 years old lost my father when I was 3 years old and um it's very important for me to be and um it's very important for me to be and um it's very important for me to be able to uh recognize his memory and and able to uh recognize his memory and and able to uh recognize his memory and and live um live um live um make my dreams come true by um make my dreams come true by um make my dreams come true by um carrying on his legacy. You know, it's it's interesting because I think a lot of us have that because I think a lot of us have that because I think a lot of us have that family tie that um you know, and fútbol family tie that um you know, and fútbol family tie that um you know, and fútbol has is just in our blood, right? Like So, how how did things start to merge So, how how did things start to merge So, how how did things start to merge with um with um with um with this industry? with this industry? with this industry? >> Well, uh Houston Dynamo came to Houston >> Well, uh Houston Dynamo came to Houston >> Well, uh Houston Dynamo came to Houston in uh 20 2006, and um I decided to cover in uh 20 2006, and um I decided to cover in uh 20 2006, and um I decided to cover the the first game at Robertson Stadium, the the first game at Robertson Stadium, the the first game at Robertson Stadium, um and decided, you know, this is um and decided, you know, this is um and decided, you know, this is something that uh I enjoy, but I also something that uh I enjoy, but I also something that uh I enjoy, but I also wanted to be a fan. So, um I decided to wanted to be a fan. So, um I decided to wanted to be a fan. So, um I decided to be a fan for a couple of years, uh just be a fan for a couple of years, uh just be a fan for a couple of years, uh just enjoy being with the Texian Army, and um enjoy being with the Texian Army, and um enjoy being with the Texian Army, and um you know, just watch from the stands, you know, just watch from the stands, you know, just watch from the stands, but uh I had a you know, still this this but uh I had a you know, still this this but uh I had a you know, still this this urge to to be creative and and um urge to to be creative and and um urge to to be creative and and um help make memories, um so I decided to help make memories, um so I decided to help make memories, um so I decided to do photography again, and decided to go do photography again, and decided to go do photography again, and decided to go back to school and get a media back to school and get a media back to school and get a media production degree.

Because that's that's another beautiful thing about um that's another beautiful thing about um that's another beautiful thing about um the sport here in in Houston. I mean, the sport here in in Houston. I mean, the sport here in in Houston. I mean, there's so many um veterans and and um there's so many um veterans and and um there's so many um veterans and and um such a vast network of individuals that such a vast network of individuals that such a vast network of individuals that started things way way before us. I started things way way before us. I started things way way before us. I mean, in the '50s and the '60s and the mean, in the '50s and the '60s and the mean, in the '50s and the '60s and the '70s. And so, you know, then being able '70s. And so, you know, then being able '70s. And so, you know, then being able to have the professional team come to to have the professional team come to to have the professional team come to town, it would just absolutely elevated town, it would just absolutely elevated town, it would just absolutely elevated things in in a different way. then? then? >> I think um, you know, since I was a >> I think um, you know, since I was a >> I think um, you know, since I was a little girl watching the World Cup and little girl watching the World Cup and little girl watching the World Cup and seeing um Sam's Army and supporters seeing um Sam's Army and supporters seeing um Sam's Army and supporters groups, a culture that, you know, I groups, a culture that, you know, I groups, a culture that, you know, I wasn't a part of because we didn't have wasn't a part of because we didn't have wasn't a part of because we didn't have a Houston team that I was going to see a Houston team that I was going to see a Houston team that I was going to see um on a regular basis. Being able to um on a regular basis. Being able to um on a regular basis. Being able to part be part of that, make a lot of part be part of that, make a lot of part be part of that, make a lot of friends from, you know, different parts friends from, you know, different parts friends from, you know, different parts of the world. Uh everyone was united by of the world. Uh everyone was united by of the world. Uh everyone was united by soccer. And I think that was um soccer. And I think that was um soccer. And I think that was um something that I truly enjoyed, you something that I truly enjoyed, you something that I truly enjoyed, you know, as a hobby. And being able to know, as a hobby. And being able to travel with the the group, go to Dallas, travel with the the group, go to Dallas, travel with the the group, go to Dallas, go to other states um to to support the go to other states um to to support the go to other states um to to support the team. That was something that was really team. That was something that was really team. Um, so it was a little nerve-racking to to be flying, little nerve-racking to to be flying, little nerve-racking to to be flying, but it was very important for me to be but it was very important for me to be but it was very important for me to be part of this historic moment for the part of this historic moment for the part of this historic moment for the team.

I mean, there was orange everywhere. I mean, there was orange everywhere. I mean, there was orange everywhere and I just remember thinking, everywhere and I just remember thinking, everywhere and I just remember thinking, this is so cool because, you know, it's this is so cool because, you know, it's this is so cool because, you know, it's one thing to see it, um, one thing to see it, um, one thing to see it, um, on TV, but it's another thing to on TV, but it's another thing to on TV, but it's another thing to experience it. experience it. experience it. >> Yes. >> Yes. >> Yes. >> And we had already experienced it in >> And we had already experienced it in >> And we had already experienced it in 2006 as well. I mean, that was filled with fans. I mean, that was filled with fans. I mean, I think there were more Dynamo fans I think there were more Dynamo fans I think there were more Dynamo fans there than there were from, uh, the there than there were from, uh, the there than there were from, uh, the Revolution. I love the and say, "I love your work. I love the and say, "I love your work. I love the pictures that you're taking. Um, you pictures that you're taking. Um, you pictures that you're taking. Um, you should try to get a press pass." And should try to get a press pass." And should try to get a press pass." And since I had a communications degree, I since I had a communications degree, I since I had a communications degree, I knew, you know, how to do journalism knew, you know, how to do journalism knew, you know, how to do journalism work and and be a reporter, but I hadn't work and and be a reporter, but I hadn't work and and be a reporter, but I hadn't done photography work as a as a done photography work as a as a done photography work as a as a journalist and decided, um, maybe I'll journalist and decided, um, maybe I'll journalist and decided, um, maybe I'll I'll give it a shot. Like if that's just do it, you know?" Like if that's just do it, you know?" Like if that's the path that you want, start creating, the path that you want, start creating, the path that you want, start creating, right? Start creating, um start talking right? Start creating, um start talking to people, start making friends, to people, start making friends, to people, start making friends, networking, because I mean, that was the networking, because I mean, that was the networking, because I mean, that was the start. Um but I mean, that I think was a very but I mean, that I think was a very but I mean, that I think was a very pivotal moment and is something to pivotal moment and is something to pivotal moment and is something to definitely celebrate that that you went definitely celebrate that that you went definitely celebrate that that you went for it. for it. for it. >> Thank you. Um started um you know, I was in my second degree, getting a media my second degree, getting a media my second degree, getting a media production degree and um just doing production degree and um just doing production degree and um just doing internships, uh working at a TV station, internships, uh working at a TV station, internships, uh working at a TV station, um doing work for a newspaper, so I um doing work for a newspaper, so I um doing work for a newspaper, so I realized, you know, there's things that realized, you know, there's things that realized, you know, there's things that are out there, opportunities that I need are out there, opportunities that I need are out there, opportunities that I need to look for and um you know, just to look for and um you know, just to look for and um you know, just started to network and and meet more started to network and and meet more started to network and and meet more people and have more opportunities to people and have more opportunities to people and have more opportunities to cover not just the Houston Dynamo, but cover not just the Houston Dynamo, but cover not just the Houston Dynamo, but the Rockets and the Texans. Uh so, the Rockets and the Texans. Uh so, the Rockets and the Texans. Uh so, expanding and going into professional expanding and going into professional expanding and going into professional sports um uh all in Houston. sports um uh all in Houston. sports um uh all in Houston. >> I love that. Um Um Um what I notice with being able to do what I notice with being able to do what I notice with being able to do football and basketball and stuff um football and basketball and stuff um football and basketball and stuff um other sports that I may not have been as other sports that I may not have been as other sports that I may not have been as well versed in like I was with soccer, I well versed in like I was with soccer, I well versed in like I was with soccer, I noticed that um it it can be a noticed that um it it can be a noticed that um it it can be a challenge. You really need to do your challenge. You really need to do your challenge. Um being at Azteca and and being able to Um being at Azteca and and being able to Um being at Azteca and and being able to have the best seat in the house and have the best seat in the house and have the best seat in the house and being able to capture those moments was being able to capture those moments was being able to capture those moments was something that I, you know, absolutely something that I, you know, absolutely something that I, you know, absolutely loved. Um having a behind-the-scenes look at Um having a behind-the-scenes look at Um having a behind-the-scenes look at what the you know, the teams coming into what the you know, the teams coming into what the you know, the teams coming into this stadium, um the press conference this stadium, um the press conference this stadium, um the press conference area, uh seeing like little details of area, uh seeing like little details of area, uh seeing like little details of things that you know, you don't things that you know, you don't things that you know, you don't anticipate seeing, but um it was anticipate seeing, but um it was anticipate seeing, but um it was something that you know, it's just it something that you know, it's just it something that you know, it's just it was a dream come true. To be able to was a dream come true. To be able to was a dream come true.
